  1. 3D will it give a great boost overseas, but domestically it will be a burden. This isn't Potter, where there is this huge dedicated fanbase, which is going to pay for 3D even if 3D is being forced on them. LOTR has many fans of course, but they're nowhere near as numerous (and crazy) as Potter fans. This isn't Transformers either, where 3D can actually be a draw. Most 3D movies struggled in 2011 as audiences turned away from the format. I'm afraid the Hobbit can became yet another casualty (domestically that is).
  2. Fanboy predictions. I'm willing to bet anything TH won't come close to 400M. Might not even hit 300M.
  3. I think you're making the same mistake some of us did for Potter. Do not underestimate strength of the fandom. BD2 might well become the top grossing Twilight film.
  4. Yes! Over 100 screens, might drop only 20%.
  5. But Breaking Dawn has finale factor, it might increase in admissions like Potter.
  6. But the sequel will cost 350M to produce.
  7. I'm thinking 2M opening for the Avengers, which is basically Iron Man 2's opening + 3D boost.
  8. THG is going to have its best weekend hold so far - that's a lock.
  9. 15M weekend for THG!!

  11. Yes, in the end zac efron movie killed not THG as widely expected, but Titanic.
  12. Lionsgate needs to find a Chinese distributor which is willing to pay some decent money for THG. The problem is Chinese are not accustomed to paying for foreign films, and foreign intellectual property in general. Hollywood studios get less than 25% of the grosses. They are basically getting robbed.
  13. Because THG's holds grew progressively stronger every weekend. And the fact that the spring breaks are over should result in films fading at a slower rate.
  14. That's exactly what happened in 2007. So, yeah I thought THG could follow Disturbia and increase 300% on Friday.Friday numbers for holdovers are pitifully weak.
  15. Actually, this sucks. I honestly expected 5M for THG... Titanic folded! It's down 60% from last Friday.
  16. This seems to be an event film for black people, should be quite frontloaded.
  17. The Hunger Games $1,439,178 8% Nice!
  18. Teens are the key demographic. They make or break blockbusters. The fact that they're not going crazy over this should be a cause for concern.
  19. The Hunger Games $1,332,029 -15% pretty impressive
  20. I was checking out Avengers clips on Youtube. It turns out the majority of views comes from males over 25 years old. This is starkly different from Transformers or Hunger Games clips, where most of the viewers are teens. The bottomline is that Avengers is getting great response from the hard-core comic book crowd, but the mainstream interest isn't really there - not enough to push it past Iron Man numbers.
  21. Titanic is 55% down from last Wednesday - a big drop is coming this weekend?
  22. I beg to differ. TA won't come anywhere close 400M. It's Iron Man 2 all over again.
