  1. Nikki reported 65mln RUB on Friday and 126.4 mln RUB 2day total. $4.3 mln. 6% Friday increase doesn't look very good.
  2. Web crowd is very excited but general awareness is not that high.
  3. If it was one stand alone movie I could agree with that number. But Germany in 70-s had 1-2 movie per year with 5mln + admissions. France had 3-5 movies per year, sometimes only 1 or 2. But 13 movies with 5+ mln admission in Italy in one year? And that is only local production. Doesn't make sense.
  4. This is box office numbers, not admissions. Clash of The Titans sold only 378,167 tickets. Good but nothing extraordinary. 1 to 27 ratio with entire population. Movies like El Greco, Troy or 300 probably should have 1 to 10 ratio. But that is only 2 or 3 films for many years. Nothing close to them. But so many italian films have 1 to 10 ratio with entire population in the same year. And Godfather 1 to 2.5? But we never heard that italians were such a moviegoing nation.
  5. I don't want to say anything rude but those calcullations look a bit fishy. Look like Italy was the most moviegoing country in Europe. So many movies with 5-10 mln admissions nearly every year in 60-s and 70-s. And it is just local films. Hollywood movies obviously made some money too. And suddenly somewhere in the 80-s people just stopped to go to movies. I know that spaghetti westerns were very popular but still hardly belieavable to me. Probably it's better to directly ask the author of this blog.
  6. Usually wide release receive all Til Schweiger movies. Sometimes might be released european horror movies.
  7. Compared to other european countries french movies are doing pretty good here.
  8. Top French movies in Russia in 2008-2012 (without minor hollywood or foreign coproduction)1. Asterix Aux Jeux Olympiques 223 mln RUB2. Colombiana 84 mln3. 22 Bullets 834. The Artist 77 mln5. 9. Yes, I understand. But still 4 mln admissions in France, 6 mln in Germany, 11 mln in UK and 21 mln in Italy? And 15 mln admissions for The Last Tango in Paris.
  10. Right now it is number 6 in top 250 by grades on our most popular movie site Kinopoisk. Average grade is 8.84 out of 10. People definitely love it but piracy is killing everything. It is not a big threat for a big blockbuster with world premiere but for those smaller films it could kill almost all chances for success. And our distributor apparently has no idea what to do with this film. Russian people like action fantasy, animation, comedies... Still there is a hope. I wrote two big articles and mention it every week in my world box office report. Some people will definitely go but I hardly can see any advertising. And it will be released only on 200-250 screens compared for 700-800 for Street Dance 2 and Pirates: Band of Misfits.
  11. I saw some of those films with my mother in late 80-s. I was just a kid but rather accelerated for my age group and we went to movies nearly every week. I remember how everyone from my school wanted to see Flight of the Navigator somewhere in 1987 or 1988. It was probably the most popular western movie among Russian kids for some time. Don't have precise numbers though.Still I would better move to Russian box office thread. A little bit later I will try to give more numbers for past foreign hits.

  13. Alain Delon, Jean-Paul Belmondo, Louis de Funès, Pierre Richard, Gérard Depardieu, Jean Marais always were tremendously popular here. Many still love their movies, particurarly old people.
  14. Usually foreign movies were purchased for flat price. Or sometimes it was a some kind of cultural exchange between two countries. So there was no need to report anything.
  15. In US average number for admissions per year is 4.3. In France it is 3.5, In Germany only around 1.5In Soviet Union it was between 15 and 20 depending on year. To put it simply average soviet citizen went to movies between 15 and 20 times per year. For many people it was quite common to go to movies almost every Saturday or Sunday.Almost every small village had a small theater or just a projector and some kind of screen. There was no restriction for old movies. If people liked them theaters could show them for many years. But in late 80-s admissions fell shaprly and then everything simply died.
  16. What kind of expectations? Most of our Russian sites and my colleagues expected between 8 and 10 mln for the weekend. Average prediction was around $8.5 mln. It is no Transformers, Pirates, or Harry Potter. Just some American patriotic blockbuster based on Hasbro game. Probably no one here heard of it.
  17. Box office grosses I got it. But 21 mln admissions for The Godfather and 15.2 mln for The Last Tango in Paris? That is so enormous.
  18. Are those numbers official and could you please provide a source? I will be very grateful for any info about other big hits in foreign countries.
  19. It still have 2 full weeks before The Avengers. 6 or 7 wide releases on next week will obviously hurt Battleship but not that much. Last year Fast Five pretty well survived till the end of May.
  20. If anyone is interested I can continue that list with other french movies above 20m admission.
  21. Actially I expected less for Les Infideles. Might gross around 600-650k on 300 screens for the weekend. Could be the best foreign market for it. Those numbers for Batteship obviously mean best start for non-sequel 2D movie. Around 11-12 mln for the weekend I suppose.
  22. Top French movies in Soviet Union. That dvarfs everything else I guess. Les quatre Charlots mousquetaires (1973) 56.6 mln Zorro (1975 55.3 mln Les bidasses s'en vont en guerre (1974) 50.1 mln La tulipe noire (1963) 47.8 mln Fantômas (1964) 45.5 mln Le bossu (1959) 44.9 mln Fantômas se déchaîne (1965) 44.7 mln Angélique, marquise des anges (1964) 44.1 mln Angélique et le roy (1965) 43.3 mln Le gendarme se marie (1968) 41.8 mln L'animal (1977) 41.3 mln Flic ou voyou (1979) 38.9 mln La grande vadrouille (1966) 37.8 mln Les mystères de Paris (1962) 37.4 mln La sorcière (1956) 36.4 mln Le gendarme et les extra-terrestres (1978) 35.3 mln Cartouche (1961) 34.6 mln Fantômas contre Scotland Yard (1966) 34.3 mln L'alpagueur (1976) 33.5 mln 3 hommes et un couffin (1985) 33.5 mln Fanfan la Tulipe (1952) 33 mln Le guignolo (1980) 31.5 mln Le corniaud (1965) 30.9 mln Le comte de Monte-Cristo (1953) 30.2 mln Le capitan (1960) 30.1 mln
  23. First Thursday estimates:1. Battleship 2,071,0002. 21 Jump Street 146,0003. Titatic 129,0004. American Reunion 109,0005. Les Infidleles 103,000
  24. Avatar did it with 5.8 multiplyer. For a summer release any multiplyer above 2.5 would be pretty good. 3 is like a miracle. For a movie above $100m normally you will need at least a $40m+ opening. The highest cumulative weekend so far was around $36m on Christmas holidays. Pirates of the Caribbean is the most popular franchise here and still made "only" $26.4 mln on 1716 screens. With totally empty market.
