  2. Congrats to Pixar and the Brave team. Very good movie. The Sunday drop is just fine. Wall-E did a little better but didn't have another animated film grossing $20m+ that same weekend. I'd be surprised if didn't reach Wall-E's $223m and $250m is definitely possible. Stop spazzing.

  3. I give Madagascar a B+. The kids in the audience loved it and that made it more enjoyable for me. Mad3 is funnier than Brave although Brave is still a better film (though not by much and that's a testament to how good Mad3 is). I loved the humor and the story even though it doesn't have the weight of Brave. It's just mindless entertainment. There were a couple of scenes which didn't deliver which is why it's not an A but overall the voice work, humor, fun, and adventure make this a must-see for families.

  4. So, can you guys who saw Brave tell me what did you think? Does it really deserve the mixed reviews it's been getting or people are just overreacting because it didn't meet expectations for a Pixar movie? I don't wanna go into the "Review That Movie" thread and get spoilers :P

In terms of Pixar quality compared with their other movies, it's middle of the road. You should see it.

In my opinion it is better than A Bugs Life, Cars, and Up, my least liked Pixar movies (although they were all good). Though not on the level of a Toy Story 3/Nemo/Incredibles. It's in the middle.

I plan to see Mad3 but I'm betting that Brave will be my favorite animated film this year.

  5. Fantastic hold for TA. It should get over $7m for another 20% drop. Amazing.Based on Noctis recommendations, I will check out Mad3. With that said, I don't think it is a lock for $20m. If the IM is like last week's (with no Brave competition) then $21m is on the table. It's going to be close.

  6. I wasn't impressed with the Monsters University trailer. It fell almost embarassingly flat in my opinion. I immediately thought of the current conversation in this thread about a possible Pixar slump. Ok, I can see how just two movies - Cars 2 and Brave (if it underperforms) - may not equal a slump but three underwhelming/performing movies in a row would be a slump. I hope I am wrong and Brave does better than Tangled numbers and Monsters University is as good or better than its predecessor.

  7. I hope I am wrong but Brave may not reach Tangled's gross ($200.3m). The buzz and anticipation just doesn't seem to be there. I don't get the sense that the story/trailers resonate with audiences. I hope I'm wrong like I was with How to Train Your Dragon *fingers crossed*

  8. What's all this foolishness about Cars 2 being better than Ratatouille ? Is this Bizarro world???

Ratatouille was underrated in my opinion. The poignant ending was particularly effective (when the food critic samples the titular dish), second only to Monster Inc's ending among Pixar flicks.

  9. I searched for this thread to proclaim upon the mountaintops that Master and Commander is overrated. There! I said it! :) I remember the Russell Crowe film getting alot of accolades on the BO boards at the time. Never understood why. It is a decent movie but not DVD collection worthy.

  10. With reviews for Brave well below the usual Pixar standards (yes, I know it is still early) and coming off of Cars 2 "disappointing" boxoffice performance, could we be in for a slump (again, based off of Pixar's high standards and b.o. success)?

** While Cars 2 was one of the lowest grossing Pixar movies, it was one of the most profitable thanks in part to the powerful merchandising arm of the Cars franchise
