  1. If the Oscar race will be between Imitation Game and Theory of Everything then it looks like it's gonna be boring
  2. 700K to go before Equalizer crosses 100M Both Book of Life and The Boxtrolls will stuggle to get even to 50M -40% drop for St. Vincent is still good but wow at Gone Girl just -37% drop
  3. I dunno I think there are just 2 major ones, the other things i think are too short or does not have that much impact but yeah skillful marketing could have maximize what they have at their disposal
  4. Gone Girl run is just impressive, it could still have a later boost if the awards season will be nice to it
  5. Lionsgate better step up the marketing next year, the marketing this year has been abysmal but well given the content of MJ1 there's not a lot of money shots to hype
  6. I miss Nikki Finke even if she's awful at math and a little crazy, at least she gives us early numbers to obsess about until the official estimates are in

  9. Yeah romcoms are still big here in Asia. Here in the Philippine local romcoms can compete with the hollywood blockbusters in the box office, they bring in HUGE numbers
  10. She was in Crazy Stupid Love and she had fun chemistry and rapport with Ryan Gosling
  11. xhibitor Relations ‏@ERCboxoffice now22 seconds ago DUMB AND DUMBER TO had a stupid-big weekend, debuting with $38M.
  12. BoxOffice ‏@BoxOffice 3m3 minutes ago KIRK CAMERON'S SAVING CHRISTMAS opened with an estimated $1.01M from 410 locations. #SavingChristmas
  13. The Maze Runner will join the 100M club this weekend right? Equalizer maybe in a week or two. Then we have 5 assured 100M+ performers BH6, IS, Mockingjay, Penguins and The Hobbit 3 so at least 30 100M+ movies for 2014
  14. Comedies did well this year domestically we have the big hits 22 Jump Street (191M), Neighbors (150M) and Ride Along (134M), solid performers Tammy (84M), The Other Woman (83M) and Let's Be Cops (82M) and middle level hits Think Like a Man Too (65M) and Alexander (61M), Dumb and Dumber 2 will probably be a 100M hit as well. Let's see if Horrible Bosses 2 can shine as well
  15. Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield really had a nice 90s romcom vibe in the last 2 Spider man movies. I would be interested to see a romcom starring them if ever that happens
  16. The last Hollywood romcom hit (excluding Silver Linings Playbook which had the awards factor to help its box office) is I think Crazy Stupid Love, it didn't reach 100M though but it had a leggy run to 80M+ gross and that was a good movie although it's not the typical boy meets girl type Romantic dramas though are still doing good though with the success of Nicholas Sparks adaptations (although the latest didn't do well) and The Fault in Our Stars.
  17. Another good hold for Gone Girl and St. Vincent
  18. Next week should be fun. Last year there were meltdowns when the very early estimates suggested that Catching Fire will open below Hunger Games but in the end it still opened higher although off with the estimates that said it beat Dark Knight's non 3D OW record
  19. yeah definitely a burn off, not even a trailer. The Nut Job had some marketing on it at least so it did decent on January
  20. Very nice start for Dumb and Dumber 2. I hope Jim Carey will have the comeback that I was hoping Robin Williams would get. Plus I want PG13 comedies to make a comeback too. Some of the R rated comedies resort to the overuse of words f*ck and sh*t I can barely notice the punchline
  21. Next week Mockingjay is the only one opening (unless an unknown horror movie pops up which almost always happens) then the week after that Horrible Bosses 2, Penguins and Kim Chiu-Xian Lim romcom Past Tense (let's see if they can do the box office magic they had in January with Bride for Rent but local romcons in November the past years 24/7 in Love and Won't Last a Day Without You made just P80-90M) On December 3 we will have BOYHOOD (finally!) and Dumb and Dumber To, then Exodus for Dec. 5. Dec. 10 we have horror flick The Pyramid and Hobbit on Dec. 12. This is Where I Leave You will be shown on Dec. 17 in Ayala Cinemas
