  2. Pan and Goosebumps should keep it closer to $170-175 million. But it's definitely strong. Martian - $215 to 225 million HT2 - $170 to 180 million Steve Jobs - $110 to 130 million Bridge of Spies - $105 to 125 million Goosebumps - $90 to 110 million The Intern - $75 to 85 million Maze Runner 2 - $75 to 80 million Pan - $65 to 75 million The Visit/Crimson Peak/Black Mass - $60 to 65 million The Walk/new PA - $45 to 55 million Sicario/Everest/Last Witch Hunter - $35 to 45 million Not too shabby for Fall 2015. November and December should be gigantic
  3. Lol Goosebumps, Bridge of Spies and Steve Jobs' wide expansion should all do quite well, while The Walk and the new PA do decent enough. Not to mention HT2, Intern, Sicario and Martian holding over throughout the month October isn't that awful BO-wise. It'll be one of the bigger October's

  5. The Martian: $53 million Hotel Transylvania 2: $33 million Sicario: $13.5 million The Intern: $12.5 million Not too shabby! The Martian will leg its way to $200 million+ DOM, since The Walk is looking to do similar numbers to Everest, and everything else this month targets a slightly different demo (Pan/Goosebumps=kids, Crimson Peak=horror crowd, Bridge of Spies=older adults, Steve Jobs=younger adults) Hotel Transylvania 2 should be able to get $150 million+ DOM, as long as Pan/Goosebumps doesn't hurt it too much. Sicario might be able to leg its way to $45-55 million DOM, while The Intern very well could leg its way to $75-85 million DOM, since it has almost no competition for the next 2 months (Our Brand is Crisis and Sisters being the only films targeting a similar demo). It's looking to have a mini-Proposal esque run. The Visit and War Room also continue to hold well
  6. I was more joking about Jurassic World all of those high-caliber films and then a fun but forgettable tentpole (Jurassic World) shows up.
  7. If both miss, it'll be: Anomalisa When Marnie Was There Shaun the Sheep Movie The Peanuts Movie Obscure indie film Not that both would miss. Only one would - at least one Pixar should make it.
  8. Weekend's looking like: Martian - $56.5 million Hotel Transylvania 2 - $30 million Sicario - $13 million The Intern - $12.5 million The Walk - $1.75 million
  9. Fall 2015 releases should have has these dates July 3rd - The Walk wide release August 14th - Pan August 28th - Everest wide release October 9th - Bridge of Spies (doesn't target Martians tent pole demo, 2 weeks before Steve Jobs) Everything else is fine where it is. Some rescheduling could have fixed the overcrowding and helped July/August out
  10. 10/2-10/4 The Martian: $57 million Hotel Transylvania 2: $31 million ($90 million) The Intern: $11.5 million ($34 million) Sicario: $9.5 million ($12 million) Maze Runner 2: $7.5 million ($62 million) Black Mass: $6 million ($51 million) Everest: $5.5 million ($30 million) The Visit: $4 million ($58 million) The Walk: $3.5 million ($5 million) War Room: $3 million ($60 million) 10/9-10/11 The Martian: $37 million ($115 million) Pan: $19 million Hotel Transylvania 2: $18 million ($114 million) The Walk: $14 million ($20 million) The Intern: $8.5 million ($47 million) Sicario: $6.5 million ($22 million) Maze Runner 2: $4.5 million ($68 million) Black Mass: $3.5 million ($56 million) The Visit: $2.5 million ($62 million) Everest: $2.5 million ($34 million) 10/16-10/18 Goosebumps: $36 million Crimson Peak: $28 million Bridge of Spies: $24.5 million The Martian: $22 million ($154 million) Hotel Transylvania 2: $10.5 million ($131 million) Pan: $9 million ($35 million) The Walk: $8.5 million ($34 million) The Intern: $6 million ($57 million) Sicario: $4.5 million ($29 million) Maze Runner 2: $3 million ($73 million)
  11. Man From UNCLE was definitely an action movie - if we're including anything light-hearted/vaguely comedic, sure. But UNCLE's main genre definitely wasn't comedy. The MCU has plenty of comic relief, but I wouldn't consider those primarily comedic in nature. Ricki released on August 7th so I did mention that. The Intern being the first major comedy (2,500+ theaters) since Vacation might have been a better way to phrase it. It has minimal competition through all of October and November so it could definitely leg its way to a 4x from even a $18-20 million OW.
  12. Not surprised this is doing well. It's the first major semi-comedic film since July 31st (which slightly underperformed), and the first film to target older women since August 7th (which underperformed). Everything this fall should benefit from the lack of compelling content in August.
  13. You're missing War Room and Perfect Guy, but yes, Sony has been in the doldrums. Hotel Transylvania 2 ought to get $145-165 million DOM with its OW, following typical animated kids movie multis.
  14. Hotel Transylvania 2 should be able to get the September OW record with a $12.5 million Friday, and The Intern should be pretty leggy. $20 million OW should take it to $60-80 million DOM, since its demo has essentially nothing from now until December 18th (well Suffragette and Our Brand is Crisis, sort of... maybe By the Sea, also) The Martian breaking out should just continue the positive momentum for Fall 2015. Unfortunately, Pan and The Walk very well could end the hot streak.
  15. Well, The Martian is based on a funny, poignant sci-fi survival story while Bridge of Spies looks like a standard Cold War thriller. Nothing really wrong here
  16. Well Goosebumps should have stayed in August. With its rumored excellent quality, it could have legged its way into late September/early October Pixels bombed, Minions/IO were on the tailend of their box-office runs, Shaun was a non-entity. The last two months definitely left a void for something family-friendly. Goosebumps and Everest moving to August would have eased tension on Fall BO, and help out the summer slightly.
  17. The Martian Goosebumps Steve Jobs Bridge of Spies The Walk Our Brand is Crisis Suffragette Crimson Peak Pan The Last Witch Hunter October 2015 looks surprisingly compelling
  18. Two of the adult-skewing films should have been released in that somewhat dead late July or all of August period. Everest or Maze Runner 2 would have been perfect as the last 'big' summer movie, with F4 bombing and Compton not really targeting their demos. And Pan should have released in August to take advantage of the dearth of family-friendly films.
  19. Excellent for Black Mass - even with Everest expanding this weekend, it should be able to have a sub-40% 2nd weekend drop. Possibly 25-30%, MR2 appears to be rebounding slightly. Could do $16-17 million 2nd weekend and leg its way to $85-90 million DOM. Better than the $70-75 million expected result. Everest looks set for a monster wide expansion. $30 million+ should happen in the year of Universal
  20. 9/25-9/27 Hotel Transylvania 2: $44 million Everest: $32 million ($42 million) Black Mass: $16 million ($47 million) Maze Runner - The Scorch Trials: $14.5 million ($51 million) The Intern: $12.5 million The Visit: $6.5 million ($51 million) The Green Inferno: $6 million War Room: $5.5 million ($57 million) Perfect Guy: $4.5 million ($48 million) A Walk in the Woods: $2 million ($28 million) 10/2-10/4 The Martian: $58 million Hotel Transylvania 2: $29.5 million ($83 million) Everest: $17 million ($68 million) Black Mass: $11 million ($63 million) The Intern: $8.5 million ($25 million) Maze Runner - The Scorch Trials: $8 million ($63 million) Sicario: $7 million ($8 million) War Room: $4.5 million ($63 million) The Visit: $3.5 million ($56 million) The Green Inferno: $2.5 million ($10 million)
  21. Two films in September potentially doing $35 million+ OW is pretty phenomenal. Especially since it wasn't until last weekend that two films in September did $25 million+ on the same weekend. And Everest/Hotel Transylvania 2 should keep up the trend. With The Martian, Pan, The Walk, Bridge of Spies, Steve Jobs, and possibly Crimson Peak/Goosebumps possibly continuing the $20 million+ OW trend. See Hollywood... this is what happens when you release compelling films during non-summer/Christmas periods If Gone Girl, which was based on a best-selling book, did $37 million OW off $1.3 million previews a year ago, Black Mass should be able to reach $37 to $41 million this weekend. Possibly as high as $43-45 million, if it ends up being fairly backloaded. Realistically $36-38 million is its range, though.
  22. Everest might do $8-10 million for its IMAX-exclusive OW, based off of those previews and the lack of frontloading. Sets it up for a $25 million+ second weekend, after it expands widely. If the first Maze Runner did $1.1 million previews, and got $32.5 million OW, Black Mass should do $35-40 million, assuming it's less frontloaded than a teen-targeting YA film. Scorch Trials must be doing pretty bad, if it's not already listed.
  23. Story of every weekend from September 18th until October 30th Sep 18: Black Mass, Maze Runner 2 Sep 25: Everest wide expansion, Hotel Transylvania 2 plus holdovers Oct 2: The Martian plus holdovers Oct 9: Pan, The Walk (wide expansion) plus holdovers Oct 16: Goosebumps, Crimson Peak, Bridge of Spies plus holdovers Oct 23: Steve Jobs wide expansion, Paranormal Activity spinoff, Last Witch Hunter plus holdovers October 30th is really the only 'slow' weekend from now until the end of the year, if everything performs to expectations. Even December 4th has Krampus as a potential breakout.
  24. I think the Spielberg/Hanks connection will be enough for around $25 million. The Walk, Everest and The Martian are all slightly effects-driven, while Bridge of Spies is a straight older-skewing Cold War drama. Steve Jobs should skew much younger, and nothing in November except By the Sea targets Bridge's demo. Steve Jobs probably will, with Universal's hot streak this year I could see $30-35 million OW with their marketing department. It's selling more tickets than Maze Runner 2. Since that's a frontloaded YA sequel, it signals that Black Mass is heading for a sizable breakout - at least in the USA. The marketing has been solid here, and really showcases the fact that it's Johnny Depp's best performance in quite a while. Plus, F4 bombing has left dead space in the BO wouldn't be surprised to see big openers from now until October 23rd tbh. I think the excellent advanced reviews and the Halloween timing will help it out. Plus, Pan bombing the weekend before would leave some room for a family-friendly entry in the marketplace. $37 million is bullish, so maybe closer to $23-26 million.
