  1. I know, but everyone who can afford to see a movie surely has the Internet at their disposal these days. The midnight crowds I can forgive since there were no reviews up yet but anyone who saw it last night could've guessed it was crap if they just searched it on Twitter.
  2. Well, now with The Devil Inside opening big, both the crappy movie and the ticket price argument kinda take a hit
  3. Haywire looks good. That should be the big January breakout, not this.
  4. Obvious targets are boring. Most of the nominees are already determined long in advance and there's little room for overlooked turkeys. There are truly offensive and reprehensible movies out there that deserve to be mocked far more than Twilight.
  5. I don't either, I'm just saying it may not have as much 4-quad appeal as the first one did. Anyway, here's the interview http://popwatch.ew.c...hurt-locker-3d/ "About that greater arc, how far along are you on Avatar 2? We’re in the early days right now. I’ve got tons of notes. The way I work is I write hundreds of pages of notes. It’s like writing a novel, except I don’t worry too much about the narrative. It’s all about the technology, the culture, the psychology, the character development. I’ve got to create the stage for the story to play out on, and then later I’ll connect the dots and figure out how the story works. I’ve always had a story arc in mind for the sequel, but then I took a trip to South America after Avatar came out and that has altered the story line somewhat. What happened in South America? I was doing a fund-raiser for these people called the Achuar. [The Achuar are an Amazonian community who want to keep oil companies from drilling near their homelands.] This fund-raiser was trying to get public attention. A bunch of Achuar were bused in to watch Avatar at an IMAX theater in 3D. These are people who had never been in a movie theater. They’re wearing feathers and paint. And they put on the glasses and watch Avatar, the first movie they’ve ever seen. And when they came out, the BBC interviewed them. This one woman, a tribal elder, says, “In this movie, they solved their problems by fighting. We are not afraid to fight, but we have decided to try to solve our problems through dialogue. So this movie needs a better message."
  6. A lot of emphasis has been placed on the underwater angle. I don't see how you can have real impressive fight sequences that way.Plus there was this interview he gave in 2010http://www.bamkapow.com/post.phtml?pk=4767
  7. Not much we didn't already know in that interview, but it's still nice to hear something coming out for this.Lately I've become pretty sure this will decrease from the original. It sounds like it's going to be a much less action-oriented.
  8. Where the execution fails is they focus too much on the popular movies. Real crap like The Darkest Hour or The Roommate or even Big Mommas 3 is going to be ignored just so they can knock on Twilight again. Real bold, guys.
  9. I think "plant" is unfair. Biased, maybe, but not a plant.
  10. I don't think anyone went to TDI because they thought it looked original. Exorcism/found footage movies are simply the fad right now. And as long as they continue to attract suckers on opening weekend like this movie did, they'll keep getting made.Although, being the first that appears to be universally reviled by audiences, it could also signal the beginning of the end.
  11. Dragon Tattoo will hopefully still make more than twice what this POS will
  12. Gotta hand it to Paramount, they know how to rip people off
  13. That plot point's been rumored for awhile now. What I'm curious about is how they apparently frame it as a shock in the movie.

  15. If it's the same quality of most Pixar films, I don't see it being too difficult. Could still open lower than usual, though.

  19. I still have a few movies left I need to see, but as for right now this is my top ten: 1 50/50 - I loved this film when I first saw it, but since my dad recently passed it holds so much more relevance to me now. I don't know if there'll ever be another film that deals with serious illness with such a skillful mix of humor and pathos. A fantastic film. 2 The Muppets - The most purely joyful experience I had this year. It's hilarious, catchy, and I really wish it did better at the box office. 3 Drive - Perhaps it's more a mood piece than anything else, but it's still an original and unforgettable take on an old premise. 4 Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol - A really entertaining film. Brad Bird brings all of his knack for action and humor into the live action world. That Dubai sequence is worth the price of admission alone, but what makes the film so consistently fun is the lively banter among the cast. 5 Rango - Great animation, vibrant voice acting and just all-around entertaining 6 Source Code - A solid sci-fi premise elevated by humanistic undertones, leaving the audience with a lot to ponder 7 Captain America: The First Avenger - Pulpy, cheesy fun. I had a grin on my face the entire time. 8 Fast Five - Ridiculous action sequences and palpable chemistry among the ensemble made this a blast 9 Thor - Terrific visuals and Chris Hemsworth's performance elevate this superhero movie 10 X-Men: First Class - Entertaining superhero film with decent acting, despite ropey effects and inconsistent pacing
  20. I didn't see many truly terrible films this year so I'll just do a top 51. Dolphin Tale - Dull, insulting pap2. Cars 2 - Badly written, almost completely uninteresting3. Hanna - The movie that made me feel ok with using the word "pretentious"4. Super 8 - Starts out great and the train crash is undeniably awesome, but utterly collapses in the second half5. The Mechanic - Didn't hate this movie, really, but it was pretty much mindless trash
  21. I'm a huge fan of Henry Selick, and the visuals of this film are worth the price of admission.alone, but the story really isn't all that interesting and Coraline isn't a very likable character. It transitions from a morality tale to this weird video game narrative halfway through and I really wasn't sure what the point of the adventure ultimately was. But again, great visuals make it worth viewing. B
