  1. Still remember the first Avengers weekend (i joined around that time), absolute madness (made more fun by folks that never believed it could break the record). Hope this weekend is just as fun.
  2. I'm confused, Shazam is doing fine. Why are people acting like its underperforming or something?
  3. Shazam (like every other DCEU movie) had a big campaign here in S.A. I obviously have no idea how much it cost but $40 million for a worldwide marketing campaign seems a bit low.
  4. Huge numbers. But I’m curious how folks are projecting $1bn WW for AM this early in its domestic run. That could easily be setting up oneself for unnecessary disappointment.
  5. My thoughts exactly. Disney didn’t do a good job promoting the movie. At all. It seems they were relying a lot on Poppins “cultural cache” which have been severely overestimated.
  6. Venom was a rather ridiculous movie. The trailers showed the heck out of the movie, apart from the final fight, virtually all the fight scenes were spoiled by the trailer. It was just an average superhero movie, very, very much like the first Ghost Rider (even Tom Hardy's performance was similar) except it had better action.
  7. Exactly. Despite his rather..extreme appearance, most of Venom's stories (if any) have veered into R-rated territory. He kills people but not even as much as a Punisher or Wolverine or even a Deadpool. Now, if we had Carnage in the movie....then it would probably be closer to a hard R/NC-17 movie.
  8. Hmm.. so "Gagabots" are attacking Venom online...just when I thought I'd seen it all. Gaga was really, really huge a while ago but her hype has died down significantly in recent years, guess she still has her followers. I honestly don't see this as being much of a problem here at all though. There aren't any Lady Gaga superfans on this board and most people here have (apparently) accepted that Venom might just be mediocre to ok.
  9. Hmm..i'm not surprised. The movie has a strong "Ghost Rider" (the first movie) vibe to it. Kind of edgy, unintentionally funny, a bizarrely entertaining lead, weird campy monsters e.t.c. It could make for a fun two hours but i need to see more reviews., if its reviews are completely terrible then there's no point watching it. I ain't got no time for bad movies.
  10. Saw the movie yesterday. It was a good, solid movie. It really wasn’t as “great” as I thought it would be. I actually enjoyed Rogue Nation and Ghost Protocol more. I guess that’s a testament to the overall quality of the series.
  11. Some points here need clarification. Unfortunately, Americans of African descent and European descent all bear similar names because of slavery (this is common knowledge). A large number of them have changed their names to develop more of identity for themselves but a lot of them haven't. Not to mention that a lot of Afro-Latinos DO bear Morales as a surname, so there's really no question of "blackwashing" (?) either way. All this being said, Miles father's name is Jefferson Davis but because of his shady past, it was agreed that Miles will bear his mother's name. It did look a little weird at first but a number of people do bear their mother's name for a variety of reasons.
  12. Serious question, have you ever seen black people before? They have myriad skin tones from extremely fair to dark skinned.
  13. She probably will. The one thing Trump's presidency has brought with it is the normalisation of bigotry. I've never in my life seen so many people attempt to rationalise hatred as I do nowadays Lots of bigots and racists fancy themselves as conservatives in today's climate and Roseanne definitely falls in line with them.
  14. Pre-sales of Solo are higher than Black Panther. Absolute nonsense. Solo....$103 million 4 day, Black Panther almost doubled this 3 day.
  15. I’m still confused at how large the tracking numbers were for Solo and just how far it will come below them. The whole $170 million+ thing didn’t make any sense to me because the buzz around the movie was so muted.
  16. Funny enough, most people that I know that went in with lowered expectations quite enjoyed the movie. I don't know how or if it will affect the box office but the word of mouth around the movie doesn't appear to be toxic.
  17. Agreed 100%. I'm not a DCEU fan but let's not pretend that folks here didn't dance in the failure of JL and the disappointment of BvS. It was even worse with the Sony Spider-man movie verse. I'm not saying it's right or wrong to be rooting for a movie's success or failure but we can't act like some franchises (like Star Wars) are above the banter. What's good for the goose....
  18. That’s a very disappointing saturday range. Might just squeak past $100 million 4 day. That cant mask thr fact that this is a massive disappointment. Perhaps Lucasfilm should have allowed Lord/Miller do their thing because playing it safe here just seemed to create audience apathy.
  19. Well, at least my boy Donald Glover is in both the number 1 song and movie in the United States. Folks are saying they are trying to make him happen, lol, he’s already happened and he pretty much made it happen himself. Too bad Solo didn’t work out too well, everything he’s touched has been gold lately (Atlanta season 2 has been totally surreal and amazing; This is America is probably the best music video I’ve seen in years, I expect tons of awards for that piece of work next year). That Deadpool drop though.....ouch! I can’t see any path to $700m for AIW but it doesn’t really matter though, it’s already gone over and above expectations.
