big box office disappointment

I just saw this today, A- (92) btw... There are many comments in this thread about the lack of emotional connection between Keanu Reeves character and the audience. Also comments about the less dialogue the better. As I was reading through this thread after seeing the movie, I closed my phone (which i cannot post from) and thought some more about the movie... Then it occurred to me. THE DOG. What a perfect way to display emotional connection. Keanu does not even have to do any dramatic acting. Just having a natural relationship with an innocent animal like this is good enough for a universal emotional connection. These connections transcend judgement too. The dog is treated well by characters and warm feelings resonate towards the movie. I do not blame him in the first movie. I would do the same thing. Imagine if you loose EVERYTHING and you are emotionally in the dumps. Feeling suicide is the only escape. You adopt a dog and a gang breaks into your house. They try to kill you and fail at killing you but they kill this innocent puppy for no reason. I understand that he would have wanted to go all in guns blazing suicide mission to avenge the senseless and cowardice attack that happened. Maybe if they had tried to kill him and left the dog alive, he would understand. He would have not been mad for them almost killing him. But seeing the character on display and seeing a flaw in this world after the dog stomping and it is just like fuck it. I have a special set of skills and you are all going to hell now.

Based off matinees, rival estimates show Warner Bros.’ The LEGO Batman movie hooking $65M for the weekend with $17M today. There are some who think LEGO Batman can even do much higher as this weekend clicks along Universal’s Fifty Shades Darker looks to file an estimated $18M-$20M on its way to a low $40M weekend. How frontloaded Friday is, is the question as the sequel lacks Valentine’s Day on Saturday, but will make up for it on Tuesday when advance ticket sales kick in. Lionsgate/Summit’s John Wick: Chapter 2 is all fired up, with an estimated $11M-$12M Friday for a high $20M weekend, possibly cracking $30M. Lego Movie opened to 69 and adjusts to 75M. Zootopia opened to 75M. Lego Batman has extra few hundred locations to hit 75. I predict 75. The Vow opened to 40 and adjusts to 45. 50 Shades opened to 85 and adjusts to 90. 50% of 90 is 45. I predict 45 for 50 Shades Darker . (50 for 50 sounds better though but it is alot of money!) John Wick opened to 14.4. Twice that is 28.8. John Wick 2 might beat this? wow! reversal of box office sequel failures.

Saw it recently. Not really my type of movie. I still respect it and give it a B. It does a wonderful job of capturing life the same way American Honey and Moonlight too. I would clump all three together. Maybe a high B then. 87
