  1. Which bums me out because I think this had the potential to be really great. I'm seeing it tonight but going in with lowered expectations because I, too, have seen some negative feedback.
  2. If it hits the high end of that range THR is giving I don't see how it misses 30. Rush factor will be huge, but something like The Devil Inside even got to a 33 OW off of a 16.5 OD. And though it has no chance of increasing, The Strangers (a better comparison) managed to barely increase its first Saturday.
  3. YES. Knew it could pull those numbers. There was no way that amount of buzz was just online. Congrats to Universal for a FANTASTIC marketing effort.
  4. Yeah. I went high on this and said 30-35 so hopefully it can make it happen. But I agree, anything above the Strangers is a success. Real buzz is there for this and the release date was a perfect choice.
  5. Even though I'm with you 110% I think this has a HUGE rush factor so we need to see today's numbers in 12-15 range to get what we predicted.
  6. My favorite box office story of the year so far. Whether you hated it or loved it, 6 months ago a lot of people thought this wouldn't open to 30 and everyone doubted the quality after the date move. Classic case of how marketing can make or break a movie and in Gatsby's case make it the blockbuster they intended it to be.
  7. Well of course, I'm just posting my opinion and what I want from the movie. But judging by the clapping and how excited everyone was leaving I'm going to assume a lot of other people feel the same way. And I really don't know what those movies have anything to do with one another?
  8. NYSM is the the most fun I've had at the movies this year and I for one want to see it hit 100.
  9. My showing of NYSM was nearly sold out last in a 450 seat theater.
  10. (He knows I’m a bitch. That’s why he bought me.) This along with a 'box office upset for the ages' are why I hope Nikki created horcruxes and never leaves us.
  11. I think it's one of the tougher films to call this Summer but I'm going with mid to high teens. I feel like both Vaughn and Wilson have lost a lot of their relevance and the trailer hasn't gotten much of a reaction (except the for Professor X part) with any crowds I've seen. I think the story next week is the Purge. It has been trending on Twitter at times in the past 2 or 3 weeks and the under 25 walk up is going to be HUGE. Rated R might hurt overall business but I think an opening day in the 10-15 range and a weekend in the low to mid 30's has a great chance of happening.
  12. Saw Epic today and thought the storyline was veryyyy 'meh' but the voice work was great. O'Dowd and Anzari in particular were great comic relief. And I know many people in here didn't like it but ROTG was my favorite animated film last year. I know it was a fairly simple story but the animation was absolutely gorgeous and I thought it played almost like an Avengers for kids.
  13. I have averaged seeing 9-12 movies a movie since I got mine in December. It's insane. And there is a bit of a loophole in the system. Buy 2D ticket, bring glasses go into the 3D theater. Not the most ethical thing probably but I've done it once. (Originally MoviePass was supposed to allow for 3D as long as you paid the surcharge, then they changed their minds and said only 2D, so I somehow reasoned I was owed a 2D movie and went for it).
  14. Don't know if you're in US but if you are you should look into using MoviePass. Saves me so much $$$ and you can see everything.
  15. I guess 'After Earth' was a nicer way of saying 'Hell'.
  16. I'm hoping her numbers out of the top 3 are a little more loosely based and Saturday can get a good boost.
  17. Nikki updated. http://www.deadline.com/2013/05/first-box-office-after-earth-underperforming-now-you-see-me-on-track-fast-furious-6-still-holding-1-hangover-iii-lagging-star-trek-into-darkness/
  18. As much of an M. Night fan as I used to be this should legally have to be how his cell phone rings.
  19. Could not agree more. I think 30 is going to be tough to come by. I just don't think Jaden + Will equals family audience like a lot of people are thinking.
  20. After Earth - 1 million. Yikes. Know it's more family driven but I think 30 is going to be tough.
  21. I don't think this number is the catastrophe some are making it out to be. Yes, it's underwhelming but a 70 mil OW is still a 70 mil OW. There is still a clear interest in this franchise. That being said, those demo numbers show it all. What saved Gatsby was the marketing toward the younger crowd. STID failed to do that. I can't think of the last time a summer blockbuster had splits that high toward an older crowd. I still think this can finish barely over 200. The real question here is do they go on with Trek 3. This theatrical run is going to essentially break even. IMDB says it's happening with Abrams attached but I'm still curious.
  22. http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/box-office-report-star-trek-523999 3.3 Total.
  23. Yeah that's fair. I know Thursday will kill fanboy rush but I'm still hoping 90 can happen.
  24. Do you see it staying relatively flat over 3 day compared to the first?
  25. Really don't think the general population was aware about STID opening at midnight. And again, we can't forget these were ACTUAL midnights, not 10 PM. On a work week, getting out of a movie at midnight or 2AM is a big difference. Honestly I had forgotten that Paramount pushed the release up a day so I'm not putting much stock in that number. Still think 90-100 million 3 day is within reach.
