Avatar 2 continues its run to 10mil total. But the story this weekend were family movies: With school holidays now approaching (or already in power), Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 might leg it to 3mil, unbelievable! Die drei ??? is also already a big success, a total somewhere around 1,5mil seems doable and if WOM catches on, maybe more. And Puss in Boots 2 is already a lock for 2mil total but should end with a total well over that number! In Austria, Avatar 2 was in front with similar numbers; Puss #2 with nearly 20k - the "Golden Ticket" for 300k total is locked; Die drei ??? on #3 also with a healthy increase but not on Germany's level. Both "big" openers did better in Austria, we had 5 releases >10k admissions! And #6, domestic hit Der Fuchs, not far behind that number - Austria continues to outperform Germany. Next weekend: Well, finally a really interesting weekend with a lot of potential 6-digit-weekends: - there's the re-release of Titanic - there's the 3rd Magic Mike movie - there's Knock at the Cabin - and an additional family CGI movie, Tha Amazing Maurice Which means screens are at a premium this week, but generally, business should see a nice uptick. I guess Avatar2 will stay on top, and probably Die drei ??? on #2, but behind that, we'll see a lot of change in next week's chart!

wow, that's one strong opening ... -
super run (even better than in Germany) and yet, it won't reach Titanic's admissions (nearly 1,4mil) ... the most successful release in recent times was (back in 2001) Schuh des Manitu with nearly 2,1mil admissions. But it will top the Lord of the Rings movies; Fellowship was the most successful one, that had 1,07mil admissions in the end.

Die Schule der magischen Tiere 2 even had an increase, that movie seems unsinkable! The only really bad number came from domestic comedy Caveman which didn't even meet the already low expectations. In Austria, Die drei ??? came in lower (#3 behind Puss in Boots) and domestic biopic Der Fuchs had once more >10k admissions on #4, surprisingly good hold once more given the story; Caveman flopped even worse than in Germany. Avatar 2 won the weekend with numbers close to Germany and is now at >1mil admissions total, the first release to reach the "Diamond Ticket" since - drumroll - the first Avatar! Next weekend: No really big releases once more but A Man Called Otto might see some success, thanks not only to Tom Hanks but also the target demo which seems a bit neglected, looking at this week's chart - such is clearly not the case for actioner Plane, this seems like an instant flop.

come on, it's not that bad there were quite a few German movies I enjoyed through the last years! -

Puss in Boots 2 is showing a lot of staying power! And, off the chart, domestic Biopic Rheingold has finally crossed 1mil. In Austria, similar results (a bit better once more for most releases) with an additional domestic releases on #3, Der Fuchs had an excellent hold from OW (nearly flat), nice! So, three releases >10k. Avatar 2 is already >900k admissions here. Next weekend: Two medium-sized domestic openers: one more children's book adaption, Die drei ??? - Erbe des Drachens and comedy Caveman. In the US, the series is called The Three Investigators, it's been published in German since 1968 - so running for 55 years now, which means real popular I guess, but it's unsure how this will translate to BO success - anything above 750k total would be fine and warrant a sequel I'd say. Caveman - adapted once more from a popular play - should have the bigger OW but will probably fade faster.

Babylon and Shotgun Wedding both opening around 60k ... as mentioned, presales didn't look good but i was hoping for something much closer to 6 digits for both of them. Puss in Boots 2 is really showing a lot of power after the lukewarm OW! And Avatar 2 now in "normal" mode ... I was surprised by the good holds until now since it seemed to me it had much less rewatch potential than the first one. None of the people I know has plans to see it a 2nd time in theaters (and my wife watched the first one 8x ...), the general consensus seems to be that it's quite spectacular but the story not as involving and gripping as the first one's.
