  1. Hope your next theatrical "adventure" will be a better one :cheekkiss:Most 3D theaters nowadays work with a single projector; I suppose it's just the polarization element that became defective.
  2. He basically did the directing for the mo-cap team. Since his own scenes were shot at the beginning, he was free for extra work after and Jackson put him where he could bring in all his experience.
  3. For this weekend I have my doubt's too (I would see a weekend drop <30% as ok) but the weekend after is a loong weekend, it has to do a complete implosion not to increase on that weekend.
  4. Yep, that was one of the moments where everybody laughed. Some other highlights: The secretary goblin; Gollum putting his chin on a boulder eager for his 1st riddle; many bits of the Trolls scene (especially the bits about dwarf-seasoning and parasites). I really liked that they were able to keep the light, fun-adventure tone of the book instead of going all LotR (which they could have done easily). I guess that as we reach the climaxes, the tone will get much darker (as it does in the book) but there should be some room for humour too: Thranduils kingdom, barrel-riding, the machinations of the Master of Laketown. And having seen the Rhosgobel Rabbits, maybe we can expect something similarily fanciful from the Beorn encounter (keeping my fingers crossed).
  5. I liked the designs too. The trolls were clumsy yet had mass, the wargs were very good (not realistic, but more of the fairy-tale-wolf type), the goblins a nice mix of horror/comedy creatures so they didn't look too menacing, the Moria orcs more fierce and evil. The Rhosgobel rabbits were, like the wargs, more of fairy-tale kind than realistic, nice touch (even a little Beatrix Potter thrown in? - maybe we'll see more in part2). The weakest design were maybe the eagles where they just went for "realistic" which is a bit unrealistic given the size of the critters. Can't say nothing about Smaug yet other than he got an eeevil eye.
  6. Why not 350? Serious question, because I think a 4.5 multiplier is possible - it opened a week earlier than the LotR films, so holiday weekdays are a week later in its run, but they will come.
  7. MarkG from insidekino.de predicts >1mil admissions for next weekend in Germany which would basically mean it's not dropping at all. Presales look good, still I'm not convinced it will do that well - everything below a 30% drop is fine with me and should guarantee a pretty good holiday run.and welcome to the forum @snaiper83
  8. Yep, that's what I'm thinking too, compare the two weekends for 2007:http://www.boxofficemojo.com/intl/germany/?yr=2007&p=.htmDec. 20-23 had drops in the 30-40%-range (plus some openers, so went up 27% from previous weekend in total), but the long Dec. 26-30 weekend saw actual increases for most everything despite a wide opening. And the weekend after New Year had very soft drops (-30%).So, if Hobbit1 can manage 12mil US$ this weekend (about -30%) then it might do 15mil the long weekend after (or even more) and again more than 10mil for the 1st 2013 weekend. That, plus strong weekdays, might put it at about 65mil US$ after Jan 6th. This would put it at about TwoTowers level, which openend a weekend later and reached 65mil on Jan 15th.edit: Just saw that MarkG. from insidekino.de predicts more than 1mil Hobbit admissions for this weekend which would be a mindbogglingly good hold ...

Among children's films, Disney's products again dropped hardest. This weekend, "The Hobbit 1" will cling to the top spot; the weekend before Christmas often sees hard drops, being a busy shopping time. But the softer opening might lead to a good hold here, maybe less than 30%, because demand is definitely still there and presales look healthy. For children's films the weekend should be better, parents like to "park" the kids there while shopping, but there are 2 new ones opening ("Sammys Abenteuer 2", a belgian CGI-3D kids film, and "Huck Finn", a German Mark Twain adaption) so it will be a hard time for holdovers. Non-children openers include: "Pitch Perfect", "End of Watch", and a film I personally am looking forward to very much: "Beasts of the Southern Wild" (will be playing mostly in arthouse theaters). A complete wildcard is German comedy "Jesus liebt mich"; it has strong presale numbers plus some religious groups are making a bit of a ruckus trying to keep it out of theaters so it's got cheap promotion too - maybe it can enter the Top5 for the weekend, really hard to predict.
  10. Just came back from my 2nd viewing, undubbed this time, nearly sold out in a 500-seater (day 7 of release here) - WOM should be very good and I expect a healthy run once holidays start. Holds up well on 2nd viewing and I'll definietly see it a 3rd time - maybe in 2D just for comparison. The best seats for 3D HFR are sold out anyway a week in advance ...
  11. Would be boring if everyone gave the same grades to a film ... there's more different tastes then menandwomen alive, and a good thing too
  12. I'm going for my 2nd viewing today (first one was dubbed), let's see if it's still as entertaining
  13. Those greenly "oathbreakers" were a part of RotK (the film) I could have done without ... either you tell their story right or you cut them - the story as told in the book doesn't rely on them that much and would work nearly as well without the ghost army at all. Their primary function in the book is to prevent "normal" men using the tunnel shortcut to the sea - that could have been managed otherwise. Their military value is not important in the book where they only help capture the corsair ships before they are released from duty.
  14. Here in Austria, HFR is the preferred format too.At my theater, there's only one screen (the biggest, 500 seater) capable of HFR but those shows have the strongest sales. The 20:00 show for 27th is already 10% booked (presales go only 10 days out), today's 20:00 is near sellout (real sellouts nearly never happen here, mostly for 2D - can't see a 3D picture selling out - who would pay the 3D charge for a front seat?).There are some 2D near-sellouts too but as they put 2D strictly on smaller screens, the absolute numbers are much smaller. One thing I noticed when skimming through presales: There are some school classes booking afternoon seats for The Hobbit this week, which will somehow fatten the midweek admission numbers (otherwise, this is a very slow week before christmas; everybody's at work, in school or shopping till dropping). Moneywise that's a bit less though since school tickets are only €5,-- (€7,-- with 3D), still nice for theaters.
  15. In the book, yes. In the film?We know that Gollum left his cave and went hunting for Baggins, finally getting captured by Sauron's minions somewhere farther south. What we don't know is where he went before that and when he left his cave. So there's the possibility that we see him following Thorin&Co, but I wouldn't count on it.
  16. 3D and 3D HFR are the same; €10,50 with prepaid cards on Sat + Sun, about 13,00 without. Weekdays are cheaper but atm it looks like The Hobbit is a weekend film. Maybe the reviews claiming it to be soooo long led people to believe this is a 5-hour-monster.
  17. Sunday trend for Germany:Hobbit1 1.175mil (I think this includes Wed), BD2 175k, Skyfall and WiR fight for #3 with140k each, Guardians 85k, nothing else >50k.
  18. I had H1 pegged at 350-400mil dom so an OW >100mil seemed out of the question, even if tracking seemed to put it higher. I hoped I was wrong but with such an OW it would probably fly past 400mil which I thought highly unprobable too. If I take 375 (middle of my range) and a 4x-multiplier (don't see it lower than 4, probably higher), this would mean a 94mil weekend; with a 4.5multiplier: 83mil. So it's about where it's supposed to be, but barely. The real question is how the legs will develop. At my theater this does not perform like an action blockbuster at all, more like a family blockbuster, with Sat the highest day yet (it opened on Wed) and Sunday bigger than Friday. If it continues like this we'll see very weak weekdays and than a minimal drop next weekend.
  19. Really strange. It's obvious that this is a worse week than the one before Christmas but there's nearly no opening effect at all?!
  20. I wouldn't say "rushed" but those were really diverting 3 hours and over much sooner than expected. But only if you're a fan, I'll concede - H1 was obviously cut for fans, not critics.
  21. I had some ideas even while watching it.- Bilbo in the Shire, before the party. Such scenes were filmed, not a single one made the cut. Would be really nice to see him in the context of his homeland, interacting with other Hobbits, so we learn what it is he is leaving behind. In the theatrical cut, we're just told that he is very respectable, but we're not shown this in any way.- Riddles in the Dark: There were I think 4 riddles missing from the book; it's easily the best scene in the film and I wouldn't mind seeing every single riddle.- How did Gandalf get map and key?
  22. Very strange opening for TheHobbit1 at my theater ... Wed evening was strong, Thu weak, Fri stronger than Wed?! and now Sat finally there are the first sellouts. It's not behaving as a much-waited-for blockbuster should; more like a 2nd weekend actually.
  23. I definitely recommend HFR if you want 3D; if you're afraid of HFR, take 2D.
