  1. It actually managed to increase in Germany from week nr. 17, from 50k to 60k admission. It's on its way to overtake Potter DH2 (78million) in Dollars too - in admissions it's far ahead already. And it should also overtake Fellowship and Two Towers (unadjusted of course but still wow!) - Return of the Kings (87mil) seems out of reach at the moment but with Intouchables I don't dare call this race over yet
  2. Estimate it at 199 and mention in the same sentence that it MIGHT even cross 200 with actuals and what a milestone this would be - so they can place a second article when actuals come in. cheap publicity (as if Avengers needed that)
  3. Yep, latest trend = Avengers drops 20%, APR only 15% - perfect numbers for both. Intouchables still in the Top 10 and should about stay flat. Bel Ami and SpyKids4D flop.
  4. It better show some good drops if it wants to reach 400mil overseas - at the moment it looks as if about 340mil is the limit for its current 14 markets.
  5. 1st weekend trend Germany: AP4 again in front admission-wise, but Avengers shows a strong hold (maybe less than 20% drop).
  6. Multiplicators for the single Avengers character's films were very consistent in the 2.8-3.3 range in Germany and Austria so 30 million is not impossible. Monday+Tuesday were strong too; now let's see how next weekend turns out - if the weather's not too nice we might hopefully see some smaller drops.
  7. The Dark Knight made about 35 million $ in Germany+Austria. Batman Begins made about 9 million. So it MIGHT be that Dark Knight was a kind of singularity then and not repeatable. We don't know that yet, but usually Superhero films don't make big $ here, and Avengers is really going strong at the moment! I thought the max this could reach are Hunger Games nrs. and with this opening it might do that ($-wise; not admissions)
  8. The Maserati was a cool choice though, compared to the horrible product placement in Brosnan Bonds (BMW, Rover) or the Ducatis in nearly every action film of the last years - the Maserati didn't feel like product placement at all.
  9. Maybe no longer holidays but May 1st (Tue) is a holiday in many European countries so many took Monday off to have a nice loong weekend. Expect Mo+Tue numbers to be higher than usual.
  10. The numbers are not exactly overwhelming, but really good compared to Marvel's last entries. And weather really hurt cimenas this weekend, it had 30°centigrade or more and even the evenings were so warm everybody was out barbecueing or partying.Edit: Latest weekend trends Germany (admissions):AP4-Reunion 675.000Avengers 500.000The Lucky One 150.000Battleship 60.000Intouchables 45.000Hunger Games 40.000
  11. As a whole, I liked it - it is an experience. You really can rely on Ridley Scott to deliver. The visuals are good to breathtaking, nice camerawork with a lot of attention to details. Also, the "miniatures" are superb (some of them quite a bit larger than the ones for Lord of the Rings). And Russell Crowe brings a seriousness and bodily presence to the role that gives the convoluted plot an anchor. My only gripes: If you decide to make a historic epos, why not make it accurate? Why hire historians if you don't listen to them? Seemingly Scott also said that some facts were "too unbelievable to include" - thats bullshit. So, Gladiator is a bit of a bastard between historical Epos and "Sword-and-Sandal", when it could have worked just as well as pure epos. But it's a very pretty bastard
  12. Brilliant film, Forman's best. The cast and performances are superb, it's not only Nicholson. Louise Fletcher's only noteworthy appearance (imho) but what a haunting and elusive antagonist she makes as nurse Ratched! Brad Dourif, Danny deVito, Christopher Lloyd! And lots more! It's one of a few films that dispense with film music. There are a few notes, especially beginning/ending, but most of the time it's just the sounds and dialogue. When nurse Ratched puts on music, it's part of the plot. It makes for a really gritty atmosphere. My favourite scenes: When they "escape" and steal a boat for a day's deep-sea fishing. It underlines how much happines there could be and so makes the institution even more opressive by contrast. Visually it's by-the-numbers, but you don't need creative cinematography with such a terrific cast and story and dense atmoshere. The set-up is so simple this could be a good stage play.
  13. Don't know if it's already mentioned somewhere but Intouchables has got a limited release date for North America (outside Quebec): 25th May, going up against MiB3 and, maybe more important for an arthouse film, Moonrise Kingdom.
  14. Yep, it's shaping up to become the first real summer-weekend of the year so propably cinemas will be only second option behind outdoor activities. Insidekino has Avengers at nr.2 admission-wise but nr.1 in euros; 3D-ripoff seems to pay off. Looking at presales here, I see the same trend with Battleship + Chronicle getting slaughtered. "The Lucky One" has weak presales too but more showtimes so might catch up in the evening.
  15. At my theater they put Reunion on the biggest screen. Admissions about the same yesterday but they did a "Avengers" event with cheaper 3D tickets so Averngers' real test will be this weekend.
  16. wow that's nice (if not very fitting) - hülk in german (anyone remeber Hüsker Dü ?)
  17. Do you pronounce it "Houlk" as in "houba houba" or english "Halk" as in "Hachette" or french "Hulk" as in "hygiène"??
  18. Latin America should be good, especially as it's rather about social than racial prejudices.
  19. That would put it at nr. 2 this year, with about a third of "Intouchables" admissions .Realistic: If the quality is ok and it chatches on with audiences, 25 to 30mil in Germany+Austria might be doable - about Hunger Games admission numbers + 3D ripoff. Well, it's really one big market with very similar structures, same as USA + Canada, so combining the numbers makes sense. Since Austria's and Germany's charts are up at BoxofficeMojo anyway, it would be redundant to post them here, but this is the only combined chart as far as I know :)And sometimes it even makes a little difference. This week Chronicle flopped in Germany, but was ok in Austria - usually Austria's admissions are about 10% of Germany's (proportional to inhabitants), Chronicle did nearly 19% in Austria and so it was able to overtake "Intouchables" in the combined market. Same for "Mirror Mirror" which does better in Austria. And in Germany solo, "Hunger Games" is nr.2, but in Austria this had a much steeper drop and so it fell behind Titanic combined.
  20. Germany + Austria Top Ten 20. - 22. "African Cats" flopped with few theaters AND a low PTA. "My Week With Marilyn" came in nr. 11, decent numbers. This Thursday "Avengers" is opening, propably on nr.1, let's hope business picks up speed. The weather is looking to become summery though, so don't expect monster numbers this weekend. "American Reunion", "The Lucky One" and some European films are opening too, maybe AR can crack the Top 3 .
  21. That poster was totally cool, but it would have been even better without those two guys in the foreground .Reminds me of some Science-Fiction covers in the 70s ... no matter what the book was about they'd put some Boris Vallejo nude on the cover . Best among the publishers was Moewig!(You can CLICK the covers! drooool ... ah, those were the times before PC hit us hard.)
  22. Pirates! has excellent WoM and super legs, sold out 2 shows this afternoon at my theater meaning it does better business than when it opened. If the opening numbers had been better, the spreading WoM could have pushed this to at least double what it will now make in Germany+Austria - Sony should have had more confidence and given Pirates! a marketing push. If a sequel happens, it will do better numbers.
  23. Weekend trend:Battleship drops about 55% but stays on top; Titanic drops about 45% and loses Nr.2 to Hunger Games (-40%). Intouchables and Türkisch für Anfänger battle for place 3, Titanic and best opener Chronicle for place 5. Mirror and Pirates have good holds again but coming from already small numbers.
