  1. Despicable Me 2 is very overrated. Animated movies this generic shouldn't make that much money.
  2. I loved Frozen, but after thinking about it, I think I agree. At least on the emotional level, Brave is better. It might be because I went to Frozen COMPLETELY spoiled... But I don't know, I need to watch Frozen again to make up my mind. I give both movies an A.
  3. Well, it's nice to see a fellow Michigander here , even if a Spartan
  4. Thank you fellow movie addicts! Mango, I'm counting on that .
  5. Frozen increased from Sunday, and I got an acceptance letter from University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. This has got to be the best Christmas ever. Merry Christmas everyone!
  6. I mentioned it in case you think I'm biased against Ghibli films for being non-American. It happened to me before. And to answer your previous question, yes, I have seen the movie without English dubbing. (I had my friend from school watch and translate it for me). The Academy snubbed every Ghibli movie since Howl's. And those movies were better than TWR and received very well by critics. Even when the year was weak for American animation, no Ghibli movie got nominated. Gee, what could have possibly changed this year for a Ghibli movie to be nominated?
  7. Just because I live in Michigan doesn't mean I'm American. The fact that they produce quality films is subjective. I was using a hyperbole for Japan. Still, the fact that there's a category for non-English-language films show that the Oscars are not international. I especially hate how no one gave a s**t about Ghibli movies not being nominated since 2005, but this year since it's Miyazaki's last film, it's getting too much attention. Just proves how partial to this fact the critics are since TWR is inferior to almost everything Ghibli released since Howl's. I would have felt better about this if the movie actually deserved all the awards it got so far.
  8. Academy Awards are not an international film festival; they're U.S. based. What do you expect? There's a category for Best FOREIGN Language Film for a reason...TWR doesn't belong with the other animated features if you ask me. You will never see an American movie no matter how good even nominated for such a prestigious award in Japan aka the most xenophobic nation on Earth. But then so many are madly in love with Studio Ghibli here for reasons beyond my understanding. I'm not American by the way. VERY.
  9. Seen it or not, the movie will obviously be getting an unfair advantage given how impartial the critics are (sarcasm).
  10. Frozen is not mainstream. How many great musical animated movies are released these days? And even if you think it's a bit mainstream, who said different is always better? Is that exotic appeal I sense or something? Frozen has been better received according to what I have seen so far from audiences and critics.

  12. And Frozen is leading now with 9 wins versus 7 for The Wind Rises so far . I wonder why Frozen started sweeping most of the awards all of the sudden. It's like the earlier voters didn't even watch it.
  13. Their next confirmed musical is Moana. It's about a Polynesian princess. I love musicals, so I'm very excited for this one and can't wait to see how the animation will be in an island setting. But that won't be released until 2018 . I hope 2016's Giants is a musical too. But is anyone else bugged about Zootopia? Am I the only one who hates anthropomorphic animals? Remember Disney during its Dark Ages in the 70's and most of the 80's? Yeah I don't want that happening all over again. (not that I was there, but I hate the movies). But it could turn out good, What do I know?
  14. Well actually the last one was Winnie the Pooh, which was released two years ago. Apparently, that movie was considered a musical. And there was also Hercules before that. Gosh I love that movie.

  17. This needs to be updated for San Francisco and Houston Film Critics Awards.
  18. Next year can't possibly be worse than this year for animation critically.
  19. What about How to Train Your Dragon 2? See? They just can't get a break! Goddammit!
  20. True, but I feel so sad for WDAS. They just can't get a break! If they don't win the Oscar this year, they might might never do in a decade.
