  1. Frozen keeps losing to the Wind Rises even though the latter has had more rotten reviews on Rotten Tomatoes (also consider that The Wind Rises has had far less reviews so far. Frozen had a %100 rating for a long time earlier). I don't understand how it's winning. Oh well I hope Frozen wins the more prestigious awards (Oscars, Golden Globes, Annies, and maybe even a Grammy 2015)
  2. It's alright. We know the winner, just awaiting the ceremony . Get better.
  3. I didn't love or see anything special with DM2 either. It deserves the 75% rating on RT. Croods is my second favorite of the year behind Frozen.
  4. I thought this movie overall was good, but the the last 30 minutes were so exciting. If only the whole movie was as good as the final act. But it wasn't, so I give it a B too. Oh and the original was waaaaaay better.
  5. I was hoping Toy Story 3 would win, so much emotion in that movie! I don't think The Incredibles deserves the first place either, but many people like it, so why not?
  6. When will top 2 be announced? It's not over yet you know...
  7. No one can deny that they have been going downhill lately. I think this year alone they closed the Canada branch, laid off many workers, and delayed the release date of The Good Dinosaur. They seem to be in trouble. But they're still my second favorite animation studio, and I hope Inside Out (a movie I'm really excited about) will mark their glorious return to form.
  8. Actually, I've been noticing a lot of Pixar hate on the internet recently, mostly from anime addicts who think that Pixar produces childish movies. Maybe it's part of the hipster revolution, where different is good ...Tbh, and not trying to start another debate here haha, but I think the Disney Classics are the best. They're the only ones I can watch a 1000 times and feel the same magic I did when I first watched them. Pixar and Ghibli partly owe their existence one way or another to Walt Disney anyway. I don't know how you folks feel about Disney. I know the anime fans like adult themes better. I personally try to enjoy movies and not take myself too seriously.
  9. I wasn't trying to make Spirited Away seem less glorious than other Golden Age Pixar films. On the opposite, I feel like too many people think that Spirited Away is the best animated film out there and that Pixar doesn't stand a chance against Ghibli when some Pixar films have clearly been liked by more critics OVERALL and then we have Ratatoullie ranked higher than it on Metacrirc. On the very least, Pixar IS a completion for Spirited Away or any other Ghibli movie. In essence, no one should underestimate Pixar. Congratulations to that wonderful studio for winning this list.
  10. It still means that more critics like those films than Spirited Away. A better comparison would be actual score, which btw, is very hard to move by even .1! So the fact that Toy Story 1 has a 9.0 rating and Spirited Away an 8.5 is very significant.
  11. Toy Story 1, 2, 3, Finding Nemo, and Up all have higher percentages of positive reviews AND average critic ratings on Rotten Tomatoes than Spirited Away. The only Studio Ghibli movie I like is Grave of the Fireflies. Actually, I love that one. It's a tear-jerking masterpiece.
  12. I'm happy with the results even though I wish Spirited Away wasn't in top-20 (maybe top-25). I'm not sure if Toy Story 3 or The Incredibles will win. *crossing fingers for Toy Story 3*
  13. I liked it, but it's a bit overrated, nothing so special about it. I give it an A- though because I really enjoyed it.
  14. The remaining 6 movies are Ratatouille, Wall-E, Finding Nemo, Spirited Away, The Incredibles, and Toy Story 3. I must say that I have developed an intense hate for Spirited Away over the last few years because it's the most overrated thing on Earth. It'll be a total nightmare for me if it landed on Number 1 as it often does in animation top 10 lists. I don't think it's a bad movie. I just don't see what it has to be praised so much just because it's "different" and "artistic" or whatever makes people crazy for it. I just DON'T understand why people love it so much...I don't... All my replies on this thread are opinions. Please guys, don't be offended by them like many do. (I'm saying this because I know what's coming) *sigh* I hope Toy Story 3 wins. Now that's a masterpiece.
  15. I don't love the Kung Fu Panda franchise either. I mean it's good, but not great. The Croods made it to one of the final positions of my list though. I thought it was a really nice movie, very underrated imo.
  16. I didn't like Howl's Moving Castle either. I was so disappointed after I watched it because the reviews made it seem like an outstanding movie. Have I missed something? The plot was incoherent and it lacked charm overall. That's just my opinion though.
  17. This list is for movies released post-2000, so Princess Mononoke is not an option.
  18. I'm sure the Academy is smarter than that. Is it really fair to give a man such a prestigious award just because the film nominated is his final film? I hope we all agree that the answer is "no." The Award should go to the animated movie with the highest quality overall. Now that's subjective, but please, folks, stop saying that Miyazaki should get it for that reason. It makes no sense.
  19. 1. Toy Story 3 2. Lilo and Stitch 3. Tangled 4. Frozen 5. Brave 6. Wreck-it Ralph 7. Monsters Inc. 8. Emperor's new Groove 9. Brother Bear 10. The Princess and the Frog 11. The Incredibles 12. Shrek 13. The Road to El Dorado 14. The Simpsons Movie 15. WALL-E 16. Finding Nemo 17. Arthur Christmas 18. Shrek 2 19. How to Train You Dragon 20. Coraline 21. Ratatouille 22. Treasure Planet 23. Up 24. The Croods 25. Ice Age
  20. Easily the best animated movie of the year and one of the best of the decade. A+
  21. I saw Frozen yesterday, and it's definitely getting the Oscar. Other animated features released this year don't even compare. Oh, and the beginning completely blew me away. You folks have to see it.
  22. 1. Frozen--------------------------A+ 2. The Croods--------------------A- 2. Monsters University----------B 4. Turbo---------------------------B- 5. Despicable Me 2--------------B- 6. Epic----------------------------- C- 7. Cloudy 2------------------------D
  23. Frozen has been getting great reviews lately, and I am honestly very excited for it. It's the most anticipated animated movie of the year (and for an animation dork like me, the most-anticipated movie overall). So I think and hope it will win. I haven't seen The Wind Rises yet, but I believe it's Frozen only major competition. DM2 has no chance, but MU does, though it shouldn't win in opinion as it wasn't that good. I agree with the people who said that this year has been weak in terms of animated movies. the only movie I really liked so far was the Croods, but that got relatively many "rotten" reviews for whatever reason.
