I personally believe this is 2014 as, like you said, it was first screened to the public in 2014. However, some people seem to believe that "screened to the public" can only be when it's widely released.
Like I said before; the thread needs to define what it wants to count as 'opening weekend'. It's very first weekend regardless of plans for future expansion, or its first wide weekend.
You either have to accept AS a 2014 film, or this thread have eligibility criteria that clearly discriminates for or against films that go wide later in their runs.
Do this and you'll get your answer.
I know we always say "this is the year that the industry has been waiting for", and something always fucks it up.
I genuinely think that this is the year. We have sequels to MONSTROUS films - Avengers, Star Wars, Hunger Games - as well as huge sequels that are practically guaranteed to make money.
Incredible. Sniper just take all da money. All of it.
300m is done. We need to consider the possibilities of 350m now.
A 60m second weekend seems possible.
No matter how many times I look at that number I just can't believe it's actually happened.
107m in 4 days is phenomenal for most films, let alone a film like AS in January.
Sydney and Melbourne keep playing the "who's bigger?" game. Literally comparing each other inch by inch.
But I kinda feel sorry for Melbs. Poor bitches still have "World's Biggest Screen" floatin around in their lobby.
*insert naww honey and sarcastic shoulder rubbing to make them feel better.
