  1. Theaters are moving to a more premium centric style of moviegoing. It seems they’ve accepted that people are going to theaters less and compensating by making the process both nicer and more expensive. The new recliner, reserved system reduces capacity of seats per screen. There’s also an expansion of more expensive IMAX screens. You also have a lot of theaters adapting into a dine-in kind of theater, which is an additional premium that can make theaters more expensive. It’s hard to compare this new model to 2010 when it comes to total admissions, especially since this new model is designed for lower attendance but higher costs.
  2. It’s pretty anecodal but I’ve personally heard a lot of strong praise for the Greatest Showman. It could have some really nice legs, probably not good enough to edge 100m though.
  3. My Last movie of 2017 was Wonder Woman, haven't watched a movie in 2018 yet!
  4. FYC A Ghost Story Best Actor (Casey Sheetfleck), Best Supporting Actress (Ke$ha as Ghost Sheet number 2), Best Costume Design, Visual Effects, Best Villain (Prognosticator)
  5. People seem to be ignoring Roma. Cuaron's bound to get attention after Gravity, although it is his passion project (and 99% sure it's a spanish-language film) and passion projects seem to fair poorly with the academy, so maybe not. Although he also finished production in March this year and it's still in post, which likely indicates there's some effects work to be done? All he'll say is something big is in store but he doesn't want people to go in with expectations on what it is. http://www.indiewire.com/2017/10/alfonso-cuaron-shape-of-water-review-roma-production-release-1201887727/
  6. It’s probably more harm for WB to release WW2 a week before Frozen 2 versus early November. It probably would have survived in December, but it would have been riskier.
  7. I feel like most the mods pulled a Luke Skywalker once the TLJ storm hit.
  8. You’re free to leave cats blank if you wish. Also, part of the idea of the FYC Compilation is for cats you aren’t sure on you can see what other users recommended for it fairly easily.
  9. I really enjoyed Three Billboards and All the Money in the World, both underrated scores
  10. I liked being able to vote on which background to have, any chance of that coming back?
  11. We decided to trim down some of the excess categories this year. The thought process I believe was to make the ballots a little less daunting to fill out, and streamline it a bit by taking out some of the redundant cats.

  13. Jumanji and Captain Underpants were also on the list (and Wonder but that one is about a family). Those three are definitely family movies, which is what makes the Lady Bird and Apes inclusions jarring. It comes across as whoever wrote the article doesn’t understand what it means for a film to be good for a family demo.
  14. I know it’s not, but it’s also not a ‘family’ film. Family film implies it’s good for all ages, Lady Bird isn’t. Not even it’s inappropriate but because I think most kids younger than 14/15 won’t be able to appreciate/enjoy it. War for the Planet of the Apes is also not good for all ages. It’s definitely too dark for anyone under 12/13 (and like Lady Bird I think anyone under 14-15 won’t enjoy it). Those movies have also not attracted family audiences for a reason (because they aren’t family films)
  15. I still disagree with that line of thinking. If you have a 17 year old you can watch Hard to Be a God with them, doesn’t mean Hard to be a God is a family movie.
  16. A family film does mean that it has to be accessible to kids.
  17. RT said Lady Bird and War for the Planet of the Apes were the two best family films of 2017? How on earth are those family films? Ones a (light) R rating and the other edges on it.
  18. 2018 IS YEAR OF LITTLE MIX BOI Lers mix it up, looking like TLJ should scrape by the weekend, but Jumanji’s probably coming for that number 1 slot next weekend unless TLJ shows stronger late legs (Or Insidious goes crazy breakout)
