  1. It's crazy! Those southern hemispherers are getting Christmas in the summertime and Fourth of July in the wintertime! What an insult to the great American tradition!
  2. Hack: "a writer or journalist producing dull, unoriginal work." Maybe you don't like Johnson's choices, but hardly dull or unoriginal. Is it too early to say people complaining about TLJ plot points not being what they wanted are hacks?
  3. 45m previews, no Christmas Day (which softened TFA's drop quite a bit, most direct comparison in previews), there is Christmas Eve. Saturday was just down in the mid-50s, being the big shopping day before Christmas Eve. Im not saying you're necessarily wrong, I'm just saying it's too early to gage WoM.
  4. You think they'll take away Star Wars screens before they take away screens for Father Figures, Pitch Perfect 3, Downsizing, The Greatest Showman and Ferdinand? We don't have a real indication how positive/negative WoM is yet. Maybe this weekend was just typical blockbuster frontloading mixed with a Christmas Eve sunday, maybe it was mixed WoM, maybe both.
  5. Why? There's no competition for it in January and not the only Oscar film that'd be competition (and possibly its only competition) is the Post.

  7. Yeah, id definitely say we need to wait TLJ out to see how WoM is. The Holidays are pretty volatile for individual days, and it's hard to make comparisons because any recent comps have a completely different calendar and any comparable calendars are so far back that there's been major structural industry changes since then.
  8. Based on the average rating versus lower tomatometer, it makes it seem like the critics who liked it really liked it (similar to mother!), thus it's able to make enough lists at a high spot to appear pretty high up.
  9. Honestly, I feel like just talking about Pitch Perfect 3 should be threadban worthy in and of itself.
  10. I am starting to compile my best of the year list (not entirely sure yet how many I'll include, I still have a few more movies to see this week) Currently in my top 3 category I have eight movies listed, this is going to be hard to sort.
  11. You skipped over the part that says "Panjiva research analyst Chris Rogers says that part of the problem is the recent Chapter 11 bankruptcy filed by Toys R Us, which not only  has the giant retailer ordering less product but has spooked the industry" Man, a major toy retailer isn't ordering many shipments because it filed for bankruptcy. I wonder why toy shipments are down?
  12. I don't love trig, but there's no working around it when you start doing polar coordinates. And it definitely makes some iterated integrals easier when you have the option to switch to polar, cylindrical and spherical coordinates (actually axe that on spherical, spherical is pretty annoying all around).
  13. Strong proponent against it how? Trig is all over the place when you take Calculus, but I also don't think there's much of a point in taking the class for Trig. The main reason for that is all of your trig is in Pre-Cal and you can pick up any weak spots for it as you go. The class itself is a waste of time in that regard, but the concepts are essential.
  14. I definitely like the reserved seating. The biggest thing is you don't have to show up to a movie ridiculously early to claim a decent seat. Beyond that, the seats are more comfortable, they're designed so I'm not staring at somebody's head, if I end up in a frontrow seat I can recline backwards and still get a decent experience, and there's plenty of legspace (my legs get cramped easy, I hate needing to stretch but not wanting to accidentally kick somebody's chair). It's pretty much at the point where I wouldn't go and see a movie in standard seating (only exception is if it's in IMAX or it's only playing at that theater for some reason). I will say, it seems like it's harder to hear audience involvement, as you feel more isolated, which can hurt a comedy and event experience. However, I haven't paid enough attention to whether or not my crowds were less involved when seatings were recliners.
  15. I wasn't that into Wind River... Until the second half, there was some genuine emotion and feeling there. It's not as good as Sicario or Hell or High Water, but it's still really darn good.
