Imo, his last great movie was Gladiator, and before that only Blade Runner and Alien. I'd accept his arrogance if it were right after Gladiator or prior (given how great it, Blade Runner and Alien are), after seeing what he's done since? Not so much.

He definitely comes off as quite arrogant in that interview. Especially since the people he was criticizing (Villeneuve and Kennedy) have been making better movies than he has this last decade.

Anyways, I think I’ll have to agree with @Lor San Tele, Darkest Hour is pretty great.

I was definitely the only person under 50 in the theater. I took my dad, who’s in his mid 50s, and he was probably the second youngest.

It actually makes a great companion piece to Dunkirk. You could watch one and then go and watch the other right after and they’d fit together perfectly.

It fits the narrative that people are using cinemas for the big movies they want to see and simply streaming the smaller scale stuff.

Where has Empire been racist? He has a very forward personality, but that doesn’t equate at all to racism.

Yeah, I don’t think they had a camera in the fish room, and it’s not really explained. I just suspended my belief and thought “well it’s so secret they don’t even want it on camera”. As for the movie, I really enjoyed it. It was a sweet love story, and it had an endearing message of loneliness, status and embracing the differences of others. Beautiful cinematography mixed with a gorgeous score from Desplat leads to a movie that almost feels like a song. Sally Hawkins is a marvel in this movie, you could tell exactly what the character was thinking at every moment. Probably the best female lead performance of the year, but I’ll have to think on that (McDormand and Ronan are also powerhouses). The supporting cast is also great, Spencer is a solid presence, Jenkins has quite a fun character, and Shannon chews it up with his villainy. Overall, I really enjoyed the whole thing, even if you have to suspend your disbelief at a few points. A-

I don't know if 300m is on the table, but 250m+ certainly is.
