Is it likely that the employees will end up elsewhere in the industry? Perhaps we'll see a number of Ghibli-esque films (much the same as Trigger does things that are Gainax-esque.)

Unlikely. Its run in China is over. DOM isn't going to see much more than another $5m and most other territories are similarly late in their run. It only has Spain, Japan, and Venezuela to open in. While Japan was quite good for Dark of the Moon ($54m), TF4 is probably going to come in under that mark. Spain earned about $11m, and Venezuela between $2 and $3m. (Though for all of them, exchange rates may have varied significantly since 2011.) So even if it matched TF3's grosses for those three countries, that's still less than $70m. The remaining 25m or so would need to come from elsewhere in the world.

Guardians of The Galaxy (2014)

Yeah. Ronan was super disappointing. -
It does speak of a sort of... breadth of movies getting to that mark. Going back to 2007, it tends to be either 3 or 4 films reaching that high. This year we'll probably get 7-9, depending on a few things. OTOH, most years have films that open much higher than we've had this year, so nothing's is really knocking it out of the park in an absolute sense. Although we've had several films do quite a bit better for their OW than expected: Cap, Godzilla, DofP, and Guardians could all be argued for throwing above where they should have.

The current records: JANUARY Ride Along $41,516,170 FEBRUARY Passion of the Christ $83,848,082 MARCH The Hunger Games $152,535,747 APRIL Captain America 2 $95,023,721 MAY The Avengers $207,438,708 JUNE Man of Steel $116,619,362 JULY Harry Potter / Deathly Hallows (P2) $169,189,427 AUGUST The Bourne Ultimatum $69,283,690 SEPTEMBER Hotel Transylvania $42,522,194 OCTOBER Gravity $55,785,112 NOVEMBER Catching Fire $158,074,286 DECEMBER The Hobbit $84,617,303 Obviously, August is going to get beaten tomorrow, unless GotG has one of the most ridiculously frontloaded weekends in history.

I'm assuming these are records for OW, not DOM total.

I thought in SW that was established to have the atmosphere held in via force fields. -
BSG: Congratulations to FILM!

God, I'm going to do so bad this week. -
It tripped me up for a bit but when I realized what she was doing and why, it was a huge holy shit moment for me. It's really difficult to get something that gets to the core of our assumptions about gender norms and completely turns them on a head. I dunno if it'd ever be possible to adapt it for screen and still retain that poignancy, but It's probably not necessary. Has it won the Hugo yet?

Just because this comes to mind from that: Holy crap, Ancillary Justice. I mean. OH MY FUCKING GOD, Ancillary Justice! It is so damn good. Beats the shit out of any sci-fi that's appeared on any sort of screen in... decades, probably. (Gaaaaaawd, Ann Leckie. Why is the sequel not in my hands RIGHT NOW?)
