  3. Cool. The AMC theater in my hometown did that a few years ago and became a destination theater for the entire area. The local Regal started to experience some pain after that.
  4. Marvel, Lucasfilm, and Pixar are wholly owned subsidiaries of Disney. Disney has complete say in what they do. (And in the case of Pixar, they have the same head creative folks as WDAS.) Well, it is different. Disney is just the distributor there. But there was never a question about Disney owning Dreamworks. Since they are the distributor, they do have control over release dates and probably some advertising.

  6. Opinion. DWA's in a testy place. They've got three straight disappointments. They've just laid off workers, and something has to give. Of the stuff in their pipeline, I'd expect that any sequels and spinoffs will happen (even as disappointments, KFP and HTTYD do make money, so that's guaranteed payoff, even if it isn't huge.) Home, as well, is going to come out. And I expect nothing to stop Captain Underpants, since it's based on a quite well known property. That leaves BOO, Boss Baby, Trolls, Mumbai Musical, and Larrikins. BOO is next year, so, again, it's probably guaranteed to happen. Trolls is also a known property. I could see it getting cut because it's not a super popular one nowadays, though, but it's probably not first in line. Mumbai Musical seems like it would be cut, given the long production cycle, but they may stick with it because of the time invested already. Kevin Lima's got several successes under his belt, so they could be banking on another. Okay, I stand corrected. Larrikins is probably the most likely.
  7. You. You are the reason that people become Massholes. And the rest of the nation has to suffer because of it. Fuck you. No, no. There's some place that starts with an I in between them. Y'know, one of those placed that nobody cares about. Indiana, maybe? I dunno.
  8. This is the leading contender among DW films to get cut entirely. Which would be a good thing, as they need to scale back in both overall expenses and number of releases per year.
  9. Since 1980, but yes. (Missing Saving Private Ryan and The Grinch. I've seen bits of each, but never the whole films.)
  10. Hmm... Return of the King Aladdin The Dark Knight Back to the Future Titanic Jurassic Park The Empire Strikes Back Return of the Jedi Raiders of the Lost Ark Toy Story Terminator 2 Dead Man's Chest Toy Story 3 E.T. Beverly Hills Cop Catching Fire Top Gun Rain Man Forrest Gump Spider-Man Avatar Independence Day Batman Deathly Hallows 2 The Avengers Three Men and a Baby Home Alone Spider-Man 3 The Phantom Menace Revenge of the Sith Sorcerer's Stone Shrek 2 [Two missing from the list, due to not having seen them.]

  12. I watched Seven Psychopaths today. Really enjoyable black comedy, with some brilliantly funny bits. It's a bit less cohesive than In Bruges, but is also quite a bit higher concept.
  13. I am. Awesome city. I hope you enjoy it here. (I suppose if you want to meet up with another forum member, send me a PM, but I can understand wanting to avoid internet folks as well.) Ooh, the Cinerama. Yeah. It's a great theater. The chocolate popcorn is to die for. Every time I go there, I buy a large, just so I have extra to take home to eat over the next few days. It's also got great sound, a huge screen, top notch projector, and comfy seats. If you're here at the end of the month, it is probably the place to see Guardians of the Galaxy. (Assuming it's playing there.) For other stuff to see in the city: Seattle Center has The Space Needle, Pacific Science Center, The Experience Music Project and Science Fiction Museum, as well as various events that happen. Depending on when you're here, Bumbershoot may be happening that weekend, which is a pretty massive music festival. While the Space Needle is pretty iconic, the tallest building in the city is Columbia Tower, which does have an observation deck. Pike Place Market is always worth a visit, just to stroll through. And it can be fun to go down the steps to walk along the waterfront. You can check out Seattle's new Great Wheel, although it'll seem pretty small compared to the London Eye. Bruce Lee's grave you've mentioned. Brandon Lee's is in the same cemetary. Jimi Hendrix, is around here, too, although he's actually in Renton, not Seattle. There's plenty of other stuff (museums, neighborhoods, whatever may strike your interest). But I won't spam up the board with everything.
  14. That's not really likely, I'm afraid. For two reasons: First, while Avatar had a very strong run in Japan, it wasn't groundbreaking by Japanese standards. It's not like Titanic's run, which was gigantically huge and set it as the biggest film of all time in the market. (Later beaten by Spirited Away, but still.) The Japanese liked Avatar, but they didn't apparently love it like other markets did. Second, sequels do not seem to do especially well in Japan. If you look at the previous top lists, there are only two sequels on it: Harry Potter 2 and 3. Both of them had strong runs, but they declined in gross, and later HP films grossed even less. (all under 10 billion yen, I think.) It seems more likely that Avatar 2 will have a strong run but earn less than Avatar in Japan. Which doesn't mean it won't do phenomenally well WW, just that this one market isn't one where you can expect it to beat or even match the original.
  15. While many websites may ref BOM, they usually only do it for the entire OS number, which is accurate. Also, even though it lists individual country totals in USD, BOM only mentions records when the film wins in the local currency, so even if Frozen passes SA in USD, it's going to be behind in Yen (and possibly behind Titanic, too. It may not be able to leg out the next 20b or so needed at this point.)If any place does mention the record in USD, it's going to either be lazy reporting (and in which case they should have already done it), or they'll note it with a caveat. For the most part, the USD totals are good for a general sense, but you really need to look at the local currency to get a true accuracy.Ironically, while Frozen should pass SA's USD total in the next few weeks, it may never have a chance of being the highest grossing film in a single territory outside the US in USD, because TF4 may pass the total in China before that.
  16. Hrm. When Tele went medieval on the Thursday thread, he must've gotten rid of three of my likes. Now my notification count is off. Also I question some of those deadline multis. 4x for 22JS seems high, even with a big Saturday bump.
  17. Kal gets tiresome in his single-mindedness, and I'll skim his posts, but he doesn't really bother me.
  18. I dunno. Maybe? I didn't really see anything positive from him. Though I'm still relatively new around here.
