  1. Incorrect assumption to think nearly all WW fans would be interested in seeing JL. Yeah, same character, but different movies and different demographic draw. After all it's called Justice League, not Wonder Woman 2.
  2. A bit off topic, but the Internet changed "journalism" forever. There's no law or rule saying you can't mix opinion with reporting facts, and now that everyone and their dog can have their own blog (and Twitter account), there's no gatekeeper screening the quality of "journalists" who write articles and opinion pieces online through any channel. But going further back, though, look up "yellow journalism" and you'll see that this isn't actually a new phenomena. The 19th century saw opinionated sensationalism in print long before bloggers took over newspapers. Moreover, such "journalism" from over a century ago contributed to actual wars: https://history.state.gov/milestones/1866-1898/yellow-journalism OK. Back to bickering about La La Land.
  3. Strange complaint. You don't need a forum to find weekend numbers. Plenty of sites post them with little to no commentary (e.g. BOM). Besides, it's hard to dispassionately discuss box office numbers and predictions, since people are here to begin with because they love certain movies. So you'll inevitably get conflicting and opinionated discussions, resulting in rants, GIFs and expletives that add character/entertainment value when kept in moderation. Only downside with internet discussions is that they tend to devolve into personal attacks and extreme negativity (First Law of the Internet). But with Tele's effort to bring sunshine, joy and rainbows I think it's not too unbalanced. I was a long time lurker in the old BOM forums and I don't recall it with rose-tinted glasses like you do. It didn't have GIFs because websites and forums faced much lower limits on bandwidth, not because of strict rules and mods. I recall plenty of rants and flame wars, though.
  4. When looking at global figures compared to DAWN, keep in mind the dollar was at very different place in 2014 (Dawn) than 2017 in European exchange rates. The British pound and Russian ruble both declined substantially (Brexit, oil prices). Dollar is up 25% against euro since 2014. So the decline is probably not as dramatic if you take out currency effects.
  5. Huh? A disappointing 56m opening from Apes counts as brutal competition that killed SMH's legs? Competition's effect is overrated. Any movie with truly good WOM will have strong holds regardless. Competition would be more like WW against SMH's 117m 1st weekend, when it also lost hundreds of theaters. Do you recall how that affected WW's legs? I'ts not like SMH lost theaters. Moreover, these two movies (Apes vs Spiderman) are the just about at opposite ends demographically--one skews very young and the other old. So I really don't understand how you could explain SHM's drop as being caused by competition. And as for holidays' impact on legs, you know Father's Day and July 4th occur every year, right? Where were all these CBM's in the last 15 summers with similar legs as WW? Seems like some people are just throwing excuses out there because their favorites under-performed (relative to their sky-high expectations).
  6. Eh? I merely stated a tautology. Every film drops 100% when it loses its last theater.
  7. What's that saying--even a broken clock is right twice a day? After all, WW will eventually drop 100% when the very last theater pulls it...
  8. That WW drop against Spider-Man...Wasn't there some forum member who bet $1,000 against it getting to 400m? Dude better start saving. More like Iron Man 8. And Spider-Man 9 (give or take). Spectacular opening nevertheless. There definitely doesn't seem to be CBM fatigue at the box office.
  9. It would seem Home took a bit of a bite out of Cindy's numbers. It's not holding up that well against the one-two punch of Insurgent and Home. Oh well. I doubt Disney is crying given the international numbers.
  10. Good for DWA. They really needed a hit. Weren't they starting to layoff staff and downsize a bit starting last year?
  11. It's about liability. Schools close down simply because if any accident happened the school would take the blame (and lawsuits). Parents taking their kids to movies on snow days are largely on their own for any mishap.
