That's true for stand-alone movies but when you're making a sequel it will inevitably be compared to the previous movie which is only fair after all.
-
Le Monde is still relatively elitist.
A bit. But it's not 'Télérama', they usually won't destroy a movie just because it's popular which the specialised reviews do regularly.

In France it's getting good reviews from some papers but mostly the tabloids or the free newspapers (except 'Le Figaro'). But other newspapers specialised in cinema gave it more mixed reviews and 'Le Monde', one of France's most influential newspapers (the french Guardian), literally destroyed it with 1 star out of 4 despite 'Le Monde' generally not being as elitist as some cinema newspapers.

Well forget what I said, Cinderella won't be the biggest foreign movie either.
-
Looks like Paris was representative...
-
It's Paris, not representative of the whole territory.
OD numbers have Paris as one of the few big cities with more entries than ff7's OD so yeah you're right they're not representative.
-
In PP (Paris-périphérique) it's at 132.000 in 2 days against 153.000 for TA.
-
-
Is that good ?
-
Hence the '...'.
-
So now AOU is 'disappointing' in SK too ? That OS crown for FF7 is getting closer by the day.

Seems to be getting mixed to negative reviews in quite a few countries.
-
Are those actuals for FF7 and Conan ?
-
Hopefully it does because winning in China and in most of LA means there could be hope for FF7 to win the year OS.

Biggest foreign movie probably but biggest overall I doubt it.
-
Too close to tell.
-
302 730 for the first one. But this is a sequel. With this OD it's falling in $ for sure.
-
FRANCE - AVENGERS, L'ERE D'ULTRON; 333 303 entrées
3rd biggest OD of the year behind FF7 and 50 Shades.

The 4th of July. One week before 'The Boy and the Beast' which is expected to be the biggest movie of the year in Japan.

Avengers 2 : 62 845 admissions in France for the 2 pm session
IM3 was at 60k at the same time.

DBZ probably attracts less women than the other two films hence a weaker Ladies' Day.
-
Tomorrow is Ladies' Day : only women get a discount.
-
yeah, if you want to watch 25 conans or godzillas.
If you think that's too much : there are over 60 Kamen Rider movies with 3 coming out a year.
You could say Japan is in 'advance' when it comes to the sequalization of cinema.

12 (--) ¥25 million ($210,000), 0, ¥25 million ($210,000), Whiplash (Gaga) NEW
Major weekend! Using the estimates, the Top 10 combine for almost ¥3 billion, which is close to being one the Top 10 Biggest Weekends of All-Time, and I think the second or third biggest weekend outside of Summer. (I'll do some research on this later).
Just bonkers for both Dragon Ball Z and Detective Conan, practically opening in major blockbuster territory, and Furious 7 and Crayon Shin-chan also recorded franchise high debuts, too!
The estimates for Dragon Ball Z and Detective Conan are honestly too close to determine which one will be on top tomorrow, though, and even using many comparisons for each doesn't really help figure out which one may have the edge. When numbers are this high, every % point changes the results drastically.
I'm assuming Detective Conan played better than Dragon Ball Z outside of the usual locations (namely Aeon Cinemas), so it's probably going to rank #1 in admissions, but sometimes Toei releases do well at Aeon Cinemas, too, so it's not certain. And I'm going to assume Dragon Ball Z will rank #1 in gross thanks to higher ticket prices, but the 3D share is very low (doesn't look higher than 20%), so if it loses by enough admissions, it's also not completely certain!
We'll just have to wait until actuals tomorrow to know for sure.- 4

Not a masterpiece but there would of course be WOM like 'it's better than the previous one' or 'it's the best one in the series'. That's what happens with sequels, can't have your cake and eat it too. When you make a movie deemed great by critics, you are expected to deliver with the next one, if you can't then don't make a sequel.
