Can't confirm it, but it might just be a case where Lionsgate's going through bad money troubles. They were already almost an acquisition target back in 2018, they spun off the Starz network into its own company a few months ago, and they're probably more susceptible and damaged by movies bombing, which they have been doing for quite a while. The constant delays for a lot of their movie projects also probably says a lot. Could be wrong of course, and I don't want to derail things further, but that sadly seems like the culprit.

I don't think you get what the term means. To me, tryhard means trying to seem more important than you actually are. The first Joker, in my personal, subjective opinion that doesn't match everybody else in the world, fits that bill.
