  1. Nah we're getting a big drop here no matter what they do. These remakes all coast by on the novelty of "it's that cartoon you love in real life" and nothing else. It works once, and obviously works from film to film, but the novelty doesn't work a second time, especially when there's nothing else really substantive that would make people want a follow-up. That's why Alice and Maleficent saw substantial falls from their predecessors and I see zero reason why this would change for a remake that frankly wasn't even that well-liked by people to begin with. The only way you really can continue these iterations and find success would be what they were going to do with Beauty and the Beast and make a Disney+ streaming show.
  2. I mean Disney's Americanized European fairy tales (and fairy tales in general of course) since the 1930s and the other remakes did just fine in Europe, even though they were made by those pesky culture vultures at Hollywood. Maybe Halle's casting really will make this a megabomb of epic proportions, which still seems unlikely to me, but that doesn't say anything about how "OMG DISNEY IS APPROPRIATING OUR CULTURE" and instead a much grosser side to some (not all) European viewers.

  6. Like everything else wrong with this world, I blame Jimmy Kimmel.
  7. That's a great one too. I keep telling myself to get around to reading Bechdel's graphic novel about it.
  8. I mean "lucky to do half" won't happen, but I think sub-300 could still happen here, because this has little going for it IMO. The first movie was coming out right at the MCU's peak, and while people like Carol, it's not really the same level as other characters. And the inclusion of characters from their TV shows won't really mean much, because Monica was barely used in WandaVision and even Marvel fans skipped Ms. Marvel. Even if you don't think these shows aren't impacting people's interest in the movies, they certainly are not helping either. I also have my doubts quality-wise, since everything reads to me as another "we're giving our directors freedom, but not too much freedom, so it'll be another half-baked mess". Would love to be wron though!

And maybe this is an overperformance, but still even moving down a couple pegs allows for a potential 20M+, which would still be really good for the film. I'm hopeful at the moment.

  13. Moderation @Quigley Like Slam said, you can ignore the pronoun question. But please don't disparage or insult Slam, people who use that function and especially people who prefer using "they/them" pronouns to identify themselves. It's insanely cruel and disrespectful. Do this again, and you will see warning points coming your way.

  16. Moderation Alright that's enough. @AnotherDayAnotherDollar @IronJimbo it's obvious you guys will refuse to listen or agree with another, so stop fighting over this "Does Disney or Cameron own Avatar?" nonsense. If you still have to argue, like the universe depends on it, do it through PMs.
  17. Nah it's legit...kind of. It's the fastest-selling IMAX Live event...but those aren't very common. https://deadline.com/2022/09/harry-styles-dont-worry-darling-imax-ticket-sales-box-office-1235112785/
