  2. WHATEVER IT TAKES This is it. We’re finally here. After 11 years of waiting, Joe and Anthony Russo’s Avengers: Endgame has finally arrived. It’s the 22nd installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the biggest movie franchise of all time. All of the previous 21 movies: - Iron Man, directed by Jon Favreau (2008); - The Incredible Hulk, directed by Louis Leterrier (2008); - Iron Man 2, directed by Jon Favreau (2010); - Thor, directed by Kenneth Branagh (2011); - Captain America: The First Avenger, directed by Joe Johnston (2011); - The Avengers, directed by Joss Whedon (2012); - Iron Man 3, directed by Shane Black (2013); - Thor: The Dark World, directed by Alan Taylor (2013); - Captain America: The Winter Soldier, directed by the Russo brothers (2014); - Guardians of the Galaxy, directed by James Gunn (2014); - Avengers: Age of Ultron, directed by Joss Whedon (2015); - Ant-Man, directed by Peyton Reed (2015); - Captain America: Civil War, directed by the Russo brothers (2016); - Doctor Strange, directed by Scott Derrickson (2016); - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, directed by James Gunn (2017); - Spider-Man: Homecoming, directed by Jon Watts (2017); - Thor: Ragnarok, directed by Taika Waititi (2017); - Black Panther, directed by Ryan Coogler (2018); - Avengers: Infinity War, directed by the Russo brothers (2018); - Ant-Man and the Wasp, directed by Peyton Reed (2018); - Captain Marvel, directed by Anne Boden and Ryan Fleck (2019). It all led up to this finale of epic proportions. Now we will see the fruits of Stan Lee and Kevin Feige’s labor deliver something truly enormous, truly massive and truly powerful. (fuck Ike's bitch-ass btw) Not only is this breaking theater records, being in over 4,600 screens, pre-sales alone are absolutely amazing. Just minutes after Endgame was on sale, Fandango’s servers crashed, and people had to wait in virtual queues just to get a ticket. In just its first six hours, Avengers: Endgame’s Fandango pre-sales beat out Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ first twenty-four hours. Deadline has estimated more than $120M has already been spent on pre-sales. And looking at posts from the Buzz & Tracking Thread, Infinity War’s opening is practically the floor at this point. And while it’s almost a certainty this will break OW records, there’s a chance, even if very slight, that Endgame could hit $300 million on its opening weekend, and a staggering $1 billion worldwide. And if that becomes a reality, it is confirmed that @CJohn is a true prophet and a god. Whatever the opening, this is set to do bonkers numbers and will hopefully lead to an unforgettable summer at the box office, featuring Pokemon, a dog-avenging hitman, a CGI genie, kaiju monsters, a gay AF music legend, a psycho Octavia Spencer, some Marvel characters that are/aren’t from Disney, a bunch of celebrity-voiced pets, two alien-hunting agents, a bunch of celebrity-voiced toys, some creepy dolls, a singer-songwriter banking on the popularity of The Beatles, Fishbowl, a bunch of celebrity-voiced lions, the epic return of Leo, a superhuman Idris Elba and a Nick Jr. character all in the span of a few months. If I were to travel back in time to tell my little 10 year old self that the new movie Iron Man was going to lead up to a sprawling epic of a franchise, spanning dozens of characters, 22 movies, 11 television shows, and a handful of digital specials and short films, with plenty more on the way (Disney+ 'bout to be lit y'all)...my young self probably wouldn’t care, because he didn’t care about Marvel movies until Phase 3 came out. But still, it’s kind of mind-boggling to think about how far we’ve come in only eleven years. In 2008, just creating a $140M movie based on a B-List superhero starring a supposed has-been actor seemed crazy. In 2012, the idea of taking said hero and placing him in a crossover with five other B-List superheroes seemed crazy. Hell, the very idea that all of these characters somehow manage to inhabit the same universe, alongside other B-List superheroes, and an A-List superhero going through his second recast in less than a decade seemed crazy. And in 2018, the idea of combining dozens upon dozens upon dozens of characters in an epic fight against a two-eyed, no-horned, non-flying purple Deebo-lookin’ ass bad guy that ends with half of those timeless and beloved characters turned into dust? It’s just pure lunacy! Regardless, it’s finally arrived. The big one. The first big stop in cinema’s Marvel madness. The one millions all over the world have been dying to see ever since that first brief glimpse of Thanos in the mid-credits scene in the sixth chapter of the MCU saga, The Avengers. And with the 2010s coming to a close, it’s only fitting that the truest of true events would be unleashed, thanks to the guys who brought us You, Me, and Dupree back in 2006. For indeed, no film is as “event-y” as Avengers: Endgame. Deathly Hallows Part 2? More like Messy Shallows Fart Poo! The Force Awakens? More like The Bore Sleeps! Infinity War? More like Zero War! Truly, Endgame is the event of all events. It combines so many characters. It combines so many stories. But perhaps more importantly, it is a triumphant, powerful ending for millions of people all around the world. Oh, we will see the MCU continue. This July sees Spider-Man: Far From Home, while 2020 sees Black Widow and The Eternals. All the while, we’ll see Shang-Chi, Doctor Strange 2, Black Panther 2, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Captain Marvel 2, and a bunch of X-Men and Fantastic Four movies down the pipeline. But with Endgame, it truly is an end of an era. No longer will we see the original six Avengers all together in the same movie. No longer will we see so many charming, likable, memorable characters all on the screen at once. No longer will we see all that Thanos build-up, as the end of the Infinity Saga, which began all the way back in 2008, has arrived. And speaking of 2008, it’s very much an end for those who first saw such an amazing saga as kids. The 10 year olds who saw Iron Man all those years ago are now in college, on the cusp of graduation. They grew up with these characters. To them, characters like Tony Stark or T’Challa are what Luke Skywalker or Harry Potter was for previous generations. Figures they admired and aspired to be. People they could relate to and use as their role model. These are the characters they grew up with. The ones they experienced all of their highs and lows with. For them, this is their Deathly Hallows 2. This is their Return of the King. This is their finale. And pretty soon, 10 years from now, the 10 year olds that saw Endgame, who will have grown up with Doctor Strange, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Star-Lord, Captain Marvel and Black Panther, will get their own personal finale in the future. Such a momentous release needs an epic weekend thread, and that’s what I’m here to do. We’re not only opening this up early, but super early, the Tuesday before release. Here, we'll have valuable ticket sales from Fandango Pulse. Here, we'll having nothing but hype and joy. Here, we'll have more memes than we can count. All of this will soon build up to the first preview numbers that are sure to come this Thursday night. And on that Thursday night, Box Office Theory will never be the same. Are you ready? Because I sure am. But before we start off this epic thread in style, here are some very important rules y’all need to follow: 1. ABSOLUTELY NO SPOILERS. NOT EVEN SPOILERS POSTED UNDER SPOILER TAGS. This applies to all of the following: Ambiguous posts, joke posts, links to spoilers, leaked images and videos. This rule is applied to all weekend threads, but it's especially true for this weekend. Avengers: Endgame is something people have waited for for years, arguably decades, to see come into fruition. So, there are many who haven't seen the film yet that don't want to be spoiled by anything not revealed in the marketing. You are free to give general opinions, but try to avoid going into any further detail. This applies to every other movie in theaters, as well as on television. So no La Llorona spoilers, no Hellboy spoilers, and especially no Game of Thrones or Gotham spoilers. If you do spoil something here, you will be banned. No exceptions. Don't be a dick. If you would like to talk about the movie in more detail, click on the Avengers: Endgame spoiler thread right here. 2. KEEP YOUR AGENDA OUT OF HERE. We get it. Marvel is the greatest film series ever created and all other franchises are below it. Shazam is a megabomb of epic proportions. Captain Marvel is better than Wonder Woman or vice versa. Disney/Marvel is destroying cinema and Kevin Feige/Bob Iger/Kathleen Kennedy is the spawn of Satan. The Rise of Skywalker is gonna bomb, because Ruin Johnson destroyed the franchise. James Cameron is the true king of the box office. Yadda yadda yadda. There's a time and place for these kinds of statements...actually, there isn't. But at the very least, it doesn't belong here. If you want to start these beefs related to all of these dumb children's movies, take it to the Fanboy Wars thread right here. If you do this kind of stuff here, you will be banned. No exceptions. So to all the people who want to go on about how “MARVEL IS AWFUL. DISNEY IS EVIL. STAR WARS IS DEAD”, don’t even fucking try. Not gonna name names, but you know who you are. Don't be a dick. 3. NO CONSPIRACY THEORIES. Every other week, we seem to have some sort of conspiracy about how critics are being bought by Disney or how the media is propping up Disney in an attempt to take down DC or something. Yeah, no. We're not gonna have this stuff here. I don't care what evidence you have. These types of posts are going to derail the thread and are basically trolling. We'll allow maybe one or two posts about a potential discrepancy between audiences or critics, or you saying you didn't like the movie or that the crowd you were with weren't into the film, or you arguing there's potential for a bad second weekend drop. But if you start repeating yourself, or said posts are inflammatory, or you start promoting the idea that there's some sort of evil conspiracy going around...you will be banned. No exceptions. Again, not naming names, but you know who you are. Don't be a dick. 4. NO POLITICS. In threads like these, politics often spring up for literally no reason. And straight up, politics just aren’t fun to talk about. So if you’re gonna say something about how Endgame is the reason Trump won, or some bullshit...no. Don't be a dick. 5. THE REPORT AND IGNORE BUTTONS ARE YOUR FRIENDS. See a post that might be breaking the rules? DO NOT RESPOND TO IT. Just hit the Report button, give an explanation to the problem, including the context, then hit "Submit". The mods will determine the post and see if it's breaking the rules, and give out repercussions. See a poster that's consistently being annoying? Then just highlight their name, then click "Ignore User" on the pop-up. It'll save lives and hopefully cause less of an uproar or infighting. While trolls are already bad, responding to them only makes it worse. So again...Don't be a dick. 6. IS OFF-TOPIC DISCUSSION OKAY? Well...yes and no. We want people to stick to box office numbers as best as they can. However, there are plenty of dead periods of time with no new numbers, and other discussions will surge. This is especially true in the early days of this thread, where there aren’t any numbers to talk about. And those discussions are okay to have, so long as the off topic discussions don't go overboard. So if there's no action, and you want to talk about which Avenger is sexier (Thor btw), or rank the Mario Kart games, or praise the discography of Ariana Grande, that's totally fine. I also strongly encourage @iHeartJames to say whatever she wants with no filter whatsoever. The mods might say otherwise, but I'm allowing it. Just remember to not talk about anything controversial and remember that when the numbers come to keep those discussions down to a minimum. Keep on doing that, and it becomes a chore for many who just want to know the numbers. We will have a post immediately after this one that will focus on just the numbers always updated to the most recent estimates, but the phrase still applies. Don't. Be. A. Dick. And lastly... 7. DON'T BE A DICK. Threads lately have started to become a little too toxic. Whatever the reason may be, if you're not following any of these rules or are straight up not being nice, you're going to get the banhammer smashed onto you. Doing some concern trolling to a movie that doesn’t need it? Banned. Revealing that Iron Man kills Dumbledore? Banned. Trying to start arguments on controversial topics? Banned. Just posting something unpleasant or mean? Banned. If you're not sure if your post is nice, think to yourself this: "If I post this, will people get mad?" If so, then don't post it. And if you're unsure if you can handle being nice for one weekend, then, simply put, get out of here. You probably know what I'm gonna say next. TL;DR. No spoilers, no fanboy wars. Keep it nice, keep it neutral, don't attack others, and you'll be fine. If you don't do this stuff, you'll risk a threadban, a suspension, or even a permanent ban, so tread lightly. Outside of that, just have fun! And three last things... First of all, this thread will likely lean into being more domestic-focused. If you want to know about how Endgame is doing in other countries, look at the International section of the forums right here. If you’re especially interested in China, please click right here. The international thread solely dedicated to Endgame is also available right here. And second.... WE’RE HAVING A SALE. The homie @Water Bottle will put discounted Gold accounts up for sale starting Thursday and through the weekend for y’all to buy. 50% off monthly, 25% off yearly. Buying a gold account helps keep this forum and its servers afloat for one more year, so if you have the money, spend a little cash to help the BOT servers continue into the rest of the year. Remember, even though Endgame is the event of all events, we’ve still got plenty more exciting weekend threads in the future. Thirdly, Here’s Kirk Deveyck, the president of all Marvel fans, telling you how to get prepared for the event of all events. And now, WITHOUT FURTHER ADO LET’S DO THIS SHIT
  3. btw @Charlie Jatinder I'll get the Endgame thread really soon. Just have to get to my laptop.

But whether it reaches 300M or not is still slightly up in the air. I'll probably look at the previous presales later.

  6. Looks alright I guess, although I do kinda see the soap opera look in a couple shots.
  7. I talked with the mods about this yesterday. I'm starting the Endgame weekend thread, but I'm doing it tomorrow, after this thread gets archived. But if the mods want to archive this thread right now, I wouldn't mind.
  8. At the very least, Tessa Thompson's killing the game, which is v v good.
  9. Ditto Janelle Monae. After Moonlight and Hidden Figures, her follow-up projects were Marwen, this, and Uglydolls? Hopefully Harriet delivers.
  10. Put up my preseason stuff. Banking on medicore legs for a lot of movies, and a few meltdown-worthy numbers, whether deserving or not, to add in some surprises. Maybe this year I'll actually remember to finish it all the way
  11. We'll just switch plans and do the Lady and the Tramp remake instead. I can't wait to see the Siamese cats spark up twenty thinkpiece articles (yes I know they'll probably not be in it)
  12. Still won't go through. I keep getting this message that says "CJohn cannot receive any messages"
  13. @CJohn Do you think you can clear out your inbox? I need to PM you something.
