  1. I'd be patient. Won't know until the end of thanksgiving weekend how this goes and overreacting to every bit of data is silly. This franchise behaves in its own way.
  2. People like this type of comedy. So do I.
  3. Interstellar is a three hour ego fest. It is 20 minutes longer than Inception and has a less audience friendly story. To be honest Nolan is overrated. He is a good director, but he not a great one. His only great film was Dark Knight and that had the Joker, who is the greatest villain in comics. And much of his success with Batman owes a lot to the 90s animated series. He just doesn't have the track record of directors like Cameron or Spielberg to get this kind of fanboy adulation.
  4. Doesn't look like its going to make more than $600 million WW. Its release date in the US was great though. No competition and it seemed like a fun movie that got good reviews.
  5. GOTG benefits from the box office being dead right now and it avoided all the comic book films from the beginning of summer. But its all a fight for second place. Katniss will take the US crown and T4 or the Hobbit will take the WW crown.
  6. Not to be a Debbie Downer, but it is a big, glossy, expensive Disney film retelling a classic fairy tale in a genre where films like AIW made a killing. And following in the immediate wake of a MONSTER Disney hit. Happy, proud, whatever. But definitely not floored. Now if it broke a billion then I would be. I'm floored when less traditional, indie style films catch on at the box office, a genuine surprise. Say like Silver Linings Playbook which I loved but was odd as hell.
  7. T4 number one for the summer. I guess that's OK. Nothing against Maleficent but people acting surprised when a big, expensive Disney film based on a famous fairy tale in a genre that makes money (AIW over a billion) does well at the bo make no sense.
  8. Summer has been a bit of a bore. No film is going to get near $300 million in the US. T4 will probably end up in the 240 range.
  9. Before her it was illegal for women to star in movies or even to be seen in a movie theater. Look it up. And before her studios never invested heavily in female star vehicles. Not Cleopatra or anything else.
  10. No worries. I don't mind being insulted (long veteran of the internet discussion forums), but not for something so comparatively tame.
  11. I'm not saying she is not a star. I tend to think stars matter, but moreso for certain films than for others. But The Tourist made over $200 outside the US so what can you say.
  12. That's the best you can come up with? So butthurt over a merest comment about your precious hero. You don't have to agree with an opinion. But you also don't have to act like a whining, petulant baby.
  13. She was a decent draw in those films. But I don't see anything like Gravity in her resume.
  14. Maleficient is a $200 million Disney film in a genre that has done well. How big was it supposed to be? I looked up her box office. A lot of commercial oriented films. A few decent hits (Wanted; Mr. & Mrs. Smith; maybe the Tourist) others where she is just along for the ride (Kung Fu Panda). Hardly the stuff of "the biggest female star."
  15. Her career is underwhelming. Sorry. All the sudden she is such a draw because she is in a Disney fantasy film.
  16. I wouldn't attribute Maleficient to Jolie. She has had an underwhelming career and has not been a huge box office draw. It is just a commercial movie in an area that sells. Oz made 230 million. I doubt that kids go to see Malificient because of Jolie.
  17. Seems like the biggest films are ending up in the same range $230-250 million. Maleficient is a $200 million Disney film aimed at kids in a genre that sells. (Oz did in the 230s; Alice made over a billion WW).
  18. Funny to a point. Then again, is this exaggerating their profits, manipulating their stocks, deceiving their shareholders? I just don't see the justification in bovinely accepting a studio's numbers when the evidence seems to be cutting substantially against its claims. Now if the movie press and blogs truly called them out and memorialized the suspicion of fraud in the future reporting of the numbers, it would get funnier.
  19. Paramount is engaged in a clear fraud. Don't see any need to excuse it. It should be called out for what it is: stupid and pointless.
  20. If Paramount is lying this blatantly than the film's box office deserves a permanent asterisk. Hopefully all the box office sites do this.
  21. So I join and a major studio blatantly lies about how much a movie made its opening weekend. It's an omen of some type I guess.
  22. Hello. Been lurking for a while and decided to join. Transformers always makes money but I'm not a fan. Certain formulas sell, but there are good popcorn movies and there are bad ones. I like Bay and I get a kick out of how many critics despise him, but truthfully these films are always on autopilot. Liked the first one and that's about it. Although on the downside it managed to convince people that LaBeouf and Fox were movie stars for a while. So far X-Men is the best movie I have seen this year.
