Weekend Numbers THG: 123, BH6 20.1, IS 15.1 pg 205
straggler replied to Olive's topic in Numbers and Data
I'd be patient. Won't know until the end of thanksgiving weekend how this goes and overreacting to every bit of data is silly. This franchise behaves in its own way. -
People like this type of comedy. So do I.

Interstellar is a three hour ego fest. It is 20 minutes longer than Inception and has a less audience friendly story. To be honest Nolan is overrated. He is a good director, but he not a great one. His only great film was Dark Knight and that had the Joker, who is the greatest villain in comics. And much of his success with Batman owes a lot to the 90s animated series. He just doesn't have the track record of directors like Cameron or Spielberg to get this kind of fanboy adulation.

Not to be a Debbie Downer, but it is a big, glossy, expensive Disney film retelling a classic fairy tale in a genre where films like AIW made a killing. And following in the immediate wake of a MONSTER Disney hit. Happy, proud, whatever. But definitely not floored. Now if it broke a billion then I would be. I'm floored when less traditional, indie style films catch on at the box office, a genuine surprise. Say like Silver Linings Playbook which I loved but was odd as hell.

Maleficient is a $200 million Disney film in a genre that has done well. How big was it supposed to be? I looked up her box office. A lot of commercial oriented films. A few decent hits (Wanted; Mr. & Mrs. Smith; maybe the Tourist) others where she is just along for the ride (Kung Fu Panda). Hardly the stuff of "the biggest female star."

Funny to a point. Then again, is this exaggerating their profits, manipulating their stocks, deceiving their shareholders? I just don't see the justification in bovinely accepting a studio's numbers when the evidence seems to be cutting substantially against its claims. Now if the movie press and blogs truly called them out and memorialized the suspicion of fraud in the future reporting of the numbers, it would get funnier.

Hello. Been lurking for a while and decided to join. Transformers always makes money but I'm not a fan. Certain formulas sell, but there are good popcorn movies and there are bad ones. I like Bay and I get a kick out of how many critics despise him, but truthfully these films are always on autopilot. Liked the first one and that's about it. Although on the downside it managed to convince people that LaBeouf and Fox were movie stars for a while. So far X-Men is the best movie I have seen this year.
