  1. I think Godzilla Minus One proved it is possible to make a Godzilla/King Kong movie in which the humans can add to the experience, instead of subtract (which has been the main criticism this entire time of the Hollywood produced movies, despite - or perhaps because - they've been attracting rather overqualified actors for the material). Who knows, maybe they've just been hiring folks who just don't have a movie of that level of quality in them, I dunno, that's for someone else to argue over.
  2. Hunter Schafer is quickly becoming a genre queen. The fact Euphoria is likely never returning at this point after too many off-camera setbacks doesn't seem like it's negatively impacting (and is perhaps serving as a plus to) the careers of the stars.
  3. Didn't the final Michael Bay Transformers movie drop its embargo right as the movie was starting on the East Coast?
  4. This is timed specifically to promote this movie so it looks like that was a false rumor. I would've guessed that if this had gone without any press tour it would've been so that Barrera and Radio Silence wouldn't be fed a series questions about a franchise they're no longer involved with (for now?).
  5. Given that the studios behind the original movies (WB and Lionsgate, respectively) had no problem letting them go and how long it's already been since those movies came out (8 years and 6 years), it seems pretty obvious streaming was the only way The Accountant 2 and A Simple Favor 2 were ever getting made when the diminishing returns were written all over the wall.
  6. GLAAD gonna have a tough time choosing Movie of 2024 between Godzilla x Kong and that Paul Mescal/Josh O'Connor movie that'll probably break the Internet. Call Me by Your What? Carol Who?
  7. Nice! Dig that we're getting all these re-releases at the same time.
  8. Let's be real: "woke/wokeness" has become the go-to term for the fear-peddlers to prey upon the gullible with, since the word "woke" can mean a lot of different things as opposed to the real words they actually want to use that carry a loaded history and would result in their self-inflicted cancellation (and the self-pity that tends to entail instead of learning a lesson and trying to become a better person). But one way to look at it is that Peltz's freedom of speech means we also have the freedom to mock and laugh at him along with others of his ilk, both for the nonsense that comes out of their mouths and when they cry wolf over being made fun of (something that often happens with conservative pundits whenever they're spoofed on SNL and in other media over the ridiculousness that comes out of their mouths, more secure individuals simply wouldn't even acknowledge the parodies).
  9. We all predicted Leo's power alone would carry Killers of the Flower Moon to an easy $100M+ total last year and look how that turned out heh. I would definitely err on the side of caution of having vastly overinflated box office expectations for a filmmaker who has always had a much more limited amount of financial success over a decade-spanning career.
  10. tbh Aladdin 2 was likely the biggest casualty of The Slap by a long shot, though it actually happening was an iffy proposition to begin with (the '19 movie was almost three years old by the time of that Oscar ceremony and Disney would've had to anticipate diminished returns after seeing what happened to the untimely Alice in Wonderland and Maleficent sequels).
  11. It's definitely had a much longer shelf life than most expected (or it probably should have had). This news dropped earlier today at the same time the trailer was released:
  12. There were definitely reports when this was first announced in late 2022 that it would be about the daughter of Hunt and Paxton's characters, which is presumably who the DEJ character was supposed to be. Who knows when they decided to drop that since they've been claiming this isn't a direct sequel. Might've been when it became clear that Hunt wasn't coming back (whether that was always the plan or they made an offer to her and she passed? We might never know).
  13. I caught up on the whole Nelson Peltz interview. Somebody call the flop mess mop up Avengers, we need a cleanup on aisle 36.
  14. It was baffling then and even more baffling now that this movie, of all things, was the launching pad for a hate campaign from a group of folks who obviously wouldn't be caught dead watching something like this in the first place. Clowns have no shame smh.
  15. She's clearly comfortable with genre fare at this point, and seems to have a solid relationship with Universal (Lucy, the Sing movies, Focus-released Asteroid City). Can't blame her for securing the nice paycheck, especially when she's turning the dreaded-for-an-actress age of 40 this year.
  16. ScarJo officially in talks. Scarlett Johansson in Talks to Lead New 'Jurassic World' Movie (hollywoodreporter.com)
  17. We're never getting another season of this show lmao. Also: We've always known you were a saint Chris!
  18. The long range forecast has it predicted for an opening between $12-22M and a $28-66M total. Will probably come down to the final marketing push + reviews as to which way it will go.
  19. Disney just opened a Tron ride at Magic Kingdom last year. That more than anything else is probably why they're trying with the property one last time. Expect Evan Peters and/or Greta Lee to visit it around the time the movie comes out for the cross-promotion (and the all-expense-paid trip to Disney World).
  20. I wonder if Universal has any concession plans for Twisters. Those could be almost as...creative...as The Dune Popcorn Bucket.
  21. Since when? The Twilight movies and Snow White & the Huntsman were projects sold more on brand name than individual star power.
