I also just remembered how jaw-droppingly beautiful Kate Beckinsale was in Pearl Harbor. She's probably never looked better, and that's saying a lot. Such a pity that the movie was a total piece of crap outside of her and the attack scene.

I'm pretty sure everyone fell asleep during Pearl Harbor outside of the attack. Probably still the best action scene in a Michael Bay movie just because it stopped being such a dreadful bore for 45 minutes and became something spectacular (of course, it went back to being a dreadful bore once it ended).

Just because there hasn't been a big surprise blockbuster doesn't mean it's a "shitty" year. Things always looked off with this summer, between the odd scheduling and the lack of a single "oh my god I just HAVE to see that" title. Winter already looks booming (Mockingjay, Interstellar, Big Hero 6, The Hobbit, Penguins of Madagascar, Annie, and probably Night at the Museum 3 are all basically locked for at least $100M, and there are a bunch of other titles with strong potential too), plus I think Gone Girl could be big if everything comes together.

Seriously? Captain America 2 and The LEGO Movie both surpassed expectations and did over $250M before the summer. And winter looks really strong this year. Just because this summer is, as expected, not exactly setting the world on fire doesn't mean it's doom and gloom for the whole year.

Maleficent begs to differ.

Maleficent is developing really solid legs in a summer that has been lacking in them. I imagine it's gonna hold well the next two weeks as well. Very good performance.

So it looks we're gonna have the first and only $100M+ opening this summer with that number. Good for the box office, I guess.

Nice start, I really want to see it.

Maybe, depending on if it does over $100M. Keep in mind Friday's gonna be rough on it since it's the 4th of July.
