  1. This is such a strange and uneventful summer, between the lack of any true "major event" titles and the odd scheduling of the movies they had. Looking at this weekend's trio of releases, can studios really blame people for opting to spend their summer elsewhere but the movie theater? I don't think so.
  2. Yeah, if anything else, the name "Sex Tape" would've allowed it to stand out in the marketplace. But the movie didn't look particularly funny and so this is the result.
  3. I think the real downfall for Sex Tape, more than the terrible reviews (which usually don't impact comedies), were the awful ads. They gave off an aura of a crappy sitcom that's bound to get cancelled after three episodes due to no one watching.
  4. The importance of critics when it comes to box office is obviously debatable (the only movies that ever really get impacted by them are poorly-reviewed dramas for the most part). But it's obvious audiences are beginning to get a better sense of unappealing product more and more.
  5. By the way, for all the crap Cameron Diaz has received the past few years for her questionable drawing power, she's having a very nice year. The Other Woman did over $80M, Sex Tape will do at least $50M even with crap legs, and Annie will certainly make over $100M this Christmas. Nice to see more evidence that hitting 40 doesn't automatically mean an actress' best days are behind them in terms of bringing in audiences.
  6. Hercules apparently won't be screened for critics until Thursday, which is always a great sign for quality.
  7. Well, looks like The Purge was able to catch lightning in a bottle twice, surprisingly. Respectable numbers for Sex Tape and Planes 2 as well.
  8. I can't breath. This has brought so much joy to my life.
  9. This summer has been pretty much done for a while, lol. Again, the scheduling decisions this summer were truly mind-boggling. WB should've given Edge of Tomorrow this slot instead of wasting it on bomb-in-waiting-that-is-now-been-banished-to-February Jupiter Ascending.
  10. Andy Serkis really needs to win honorary Oscar someday for all of the phenomenal mo-cap work he has delivered throughout his career.
  11. Because whatever themes the first might have posed about society were lost in a standard home invasion thriller populated with stupid characters who made moronic decisions at every corner.
  12. Would you say that The Devil Inside dropped like a rock after opening weekend because "people wanted to see it right away" and not because there were several reports and even videos made showing audiences booing it off the screen at the end? Believe it or not, word-of-mouth actually does matter for movies like this to, even if it isn't to the extent as other genres.
  13. I don't know, I ended up having several hundred questions by the end because of all the stupid decisions the characters make (including: why do the killers spend a whole purge terrorizing this one family when they could be killing several hobos? Why does the family keep splitting up? Why does the son let that bloody homeless dude into the house, or better yet, why does he even know the password to unlock the security system? Was this his first purge? In fact, what is the point of the purge when unemployment is like 1%, when most crime is brought on by poverty and not because everyone has a crazy killer holed up inside of them that needs to be released once a year?). Maybe this new movie answers those questions, but I can't muster up any reason to care.
