LOL I can't believe that this is looking to come reasonably close to the first movie despite that film's terrible reception. I got dragged to it last year and almost emerged from the theater 85 minutes later as a human vegetable from enduring so much idiocy.
Yeah, it is. I said this in another thread, but it's a true testament to Melissa McCarthy's now undeniable drawing power that this movie is headed for about $90-95M. It would've tanked without her.
Yeah, The Purge was not well-received and had really atrocious legs, but it's not like it was The Devil Inside (where there were widespread reports of audiences booing it off the screen). This sequel will probably do something like $20M/$40M and not drop off too much, since it's not rehashing the premise of the previous movie.
The 5 minute Dinosaur trailer that ran before every copy of Toy Story 2 that consisted of the entire opening scene of the movie. It was absolutely stunning and hinted at a truly remarkable movie unlike anything we've seen before at the time. The movie, while not terrible, didn't come close to living up to it outside of the visuals.
It's amazing just how well this holds up a decade later.
"I'm gonna vote for Regina George because she got hit by a bus."
"I'm voting for Cady Heron because she pushed her."
The Truman Show and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind are the best movies he's ever made. As far as his comedies go, I'll always hold a soft spot for Liar Liar and Dumb & Dumber.
His best performance, though, is definitely Andy Kaufman. He...nailed him in every single way.
They're probably keeping it in theaters because it's on the schedules for most, if not all, of these summer movie kids camp things that start at 10 in the morning during the week. Same applies to the other movies that are a part of it that are still in theaters.
What the hell this thread was something like 56-57 pages when I was last online over 3 hours ago. Sum up what's happened quickly so I don't have to waste my time.
