  1. I hope some theaters accidentally end up showing Sex Tape in front of an audience of kids expecting Planes 2. Just because.
  2. Yes! Speaking of which, 8 Mile's opening still amazes me to this day. I saw it opening weekend in a sold out theater.
  3. This show was absolutely hilarious. So overjoyed that it's coming back. Long live Valerie Cherish! "Note to self: after a long day at work, I don't want to see that!"
  4. Eh, maybe, maybe not. At least these movies did well financially and kept them at least somewhat relevant. Now they have completely faded into obscurity except for Travolta, to an extent (he hardly appear in movies these days, and after becoming a laughing stock over the Idina Menzel name botching at the Oscars, another comeback does not appear to be happening even close to anytime soon).
  5. Back to the actual topic of this thread (weekend numbers): Excellent start for Apes. The next two weekends are relatively light, so I hope it manages good legs. Another expected drop for Transformers, which will definitely miss $250M at this point. Tammy's drop is solid, should finish with a very good $90-95M. Jump Street, Dragon, and Maleficent all saw good holds yet again. Solid expansion for Begin Again. Chef continues to chug along nicely. Terrific start for Boyhood.
  6. The funniest things about Norbit and (also mentioned in the first post) Wild Hogs: If they were made today with the same actors, they likely wouldn't even make a fraction of what they did. All of their careers are basically in the gutter these days.
  7. So, what's the current topic of the moment in this thread? Babies, numbers, boogers...?

  9. Quite great, and an improvement over the surprisingly strong Rise of the Planet of the Apes. This rebooted franchise has turned out much better than anyone could've anticipated. Andy Serkis is a really deserves a special Oscar for the marvelous mo-cap work he has delivered the past several years, and the human actors (Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell) all contribute solid work without being too overshadowed by their CGI co-stars. A-
  10. Not in the first seven weeks there weren't. Once again, just awful, awful scheduling all around.
  11. I actually think Sex Tape will do very well. The market is kind of starving for an (appealing) comedy right now, and Diaz showed with The Other Woman that she is still capable of pulling in audiences with the right role.
  12. You're probably right. I still think this one has an advantage the others don't, but at this point, I kind of give it all a shrug.
  13. I don't know. The next two weekends look to be almost complete nonevents, which will be help this. This is probably the only "blockbuster" this summer that actually has room to develop legs.
  14. Could've been worse considering the early numbers, but still a big fall. I'm rooting for Apes to have the legs to surpass it, at least enough to give us one $250M grosser this summer.
  15. That's actually not a bad drop at all. Sex Tape will probably hurt it next weekend, though.
  16. Dang, Transformers really got boned if those early numbers hold up. Looks like this is officially the summer of no $250M+ grossers. Unsurprisingly.
  17. OMFG Baby Geniuses! The movie that killed Kathleen Turner and Christopher Lloyd's careers! Kill it with fire!
  18. LOL remember how hard it was to get away from that song two summers ago? Carly Rae Jepson unfortunately appears to be destined to be known as a modern day one hit wonder.
  19. Oh, I'm excited for fatherhood. I'm more worried that he will have absolutely no interest in me. lololol
