  1. 9. Pirates of the Caribben: On Stranger Tides (2011) There’s no need to say I love this series with a burning passion haha. But even so, ‘On Stranger Tides’ was the weakest of the ‘Pirates’. Depp is impressive, as always, but he needs others to talk to. He carries most of the film by himself, with some help from Geoffrey Rush and Kevin McNally. Penelope Cruz feels charmless after Knightley and Blackbeard is no match for Davy Jones or Cutler Beckett. Also, you feel the lack of Bloom and Davenport. Another downside is the scope. It’s not even by far as grand and epic as the one in ‘At World’s End’, which was the highlight of the series. But with all these things going against it, it’s still mighty surprising how enetertaining ‘On Stranger Tides’ can be. It is always funny and action filled, with some very memorable moments (the sirens’ attack). Also, ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ never needed to better it’s soundtrack (Zimmer already delivered what is probably the most iconic movie score today), but HZ adds some new, fresh themes of which the ‘Jolly Sailor Bold’ one is just magnificent! Grade: 96/100
  2. Be careful Baumer, Noctis, Kalo and Chas might get mad for making their favourite movies 'bullshit'
  3. I can't wait for this! I also feel I will derail this tread badly if (or more likely 'when') some specific franchises come up
  4. Actually, that's true and not true. Several choices are FAR from mainstream or popular.
  5. 10. Jupiter Ascending (2015) This is the only 2015 movie on the list and it was really difficult rating it. The story was great, the idea behind it is one of the most daring ever put on screen, but the runtime really hurts it. This should’ve been a 4 hour long movie because the ramifications of this universe are so complex it is mind boggling. Unlike others, I had no pronlems with the characters and Redmayne’s Balem was just as good as I imagined. He illustrated perfectly how an all powerfull tyrant should be like: cruel, power driven, unstable. I would have loved to see more of the political aspect though. For example, the scene at the beginning with the three Abrasax (Balem, Kalique and Titus) meeting and talking about whole plantes like dollar bills was amazing. The visuals… I’m temped to say I’ve never seen a film such a good VFX. Kalique’s planet was breathtaking and the image was completed by Michael Giacchino’s sublime score. Overall, any 2015 release will have a hard time topping this. Grade: 95/100
  6. Well, that's a great compliment Fuckin people's mind is my pleasure
  7. Hmm... some of the movies that will appear in my Top 10 are predictable chioces, but others... I doubt anyone would ever think about them
  8. 12. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010) By adapting a the final book in the most popular series ever in two films, Warner Bros started a trend that everbody hurried to follow, but unfortunately, there are very few books that have enough material for two flick and this is one of them. 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1' feels like the silence before a storm. It is dark, gloomy and atmospheric. It is a movie that won't leave you happy even if you end up loving it. The acting is top notch, the effects keep pace with the story. They are not overbearing, but limited in their quantity and somehow silent. The beginning probably features one of the most emotional scenes in the entire series, with Hermione erasing her parent's memories about her just to keep them safe. Also, this felt very, very different from the other Potters. Hogwarts is no longer the place where the action takes place and even the slightest feeling of safety is now gone. The life on the road is the best opportunity for the characters to grow and this is the reason why, from this perspective, HP: DH 1 is the most mature of the films. Grade: 93/100 11. Pacific Rim (2013) This was BADASS! The concept was very anime-like and I love anime. The movie was pure popocorn fun and it's VFX is among the best I've ever seen. I really digged the night scenes. Most people would snicker that they are a trick for the filming to be cheaper, but they looked fantastic to me, even better than some scenes from 'Transformers', which is a crazy level of good. Also, having Charlie Hunnam play the main character is another reason why Del Toro nailed this. I'm so fuckin' pumped for the sequel! Grade: 94/100
  9. Is Libesman confirmed? I want Bay back. He's the only one capable enough to give me the spectacle that I want. And I freakin want MW to gtfo and Shia and Fox to be brought back. I know the last part it's really unlikely, but at least Bay has to stay.
  10. 14. My Soul To Take (2010) This is the top rated horror movie on the list and in my opinion the best horror ever made. But I don't know why. You know those cases when you absolutely LOVE a flick even though you have no idea why? Well, this is the one for me. I've seen this 5 or 6 times and every time it just leaves me smiling. It also made of Max Thieriot one of the most interesting actors working today for me. Since then I've seen him in 'Bates Motel' and 'Disconnect' and it only made me respect him even more. Bug is a a very weird, troubled character and that's just right up my alley. Grade: 91/100 13. Transformers 3: Dark of the Moon (2011) The third part in the popular 'Transformers' franchise might not be as good as the first two, but Michael Bay still manages to offer an insanely pleasurable ride. 'Dark of the Moon' features Bay signature for visual details, having one of the, if not the most incredible action scenes ever put on screen (the Chicago battle). The soundtrack blasts those incredible rythms we got used to and Shia Le Boeuf's Sam Witwicky is as enetertaining and peculiar as ever. The only thing that brings Transformers 3 down is the lack of Megan Fox and her replacement with a talentless eye candy (who not even in that chapter manages to equal Fox). Grade: 92/100
  11. Perfect description. And the battle against Sauron and the Wraiths was also my favourite part!
  12. That explains A LOT of things! This news made my day. I am so happy he is banned.
  13. 16. Chronicle (2012) Why is this movie so high? Because it represents everything I ever wanted. To have that kind of power is my biggest dream. I also like the way the characters evolved, in a very realistic way. DeHaan is becoming more and more one of the highlights of Hollywood for me (he was also the bast part about TASM 2) and the "darkening" of his character was a very relatable situation. A lot of people I know, myself included, would have reacted the same way he did. Grade: 90/100 15. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey (2012) I went to see this with three of my best friends and we were so blown by it that an entire hour after it was done we couldn't stop talking about it. That tease of Smaug at the end of it made my heart jump. I love LOTR.No surprise there. They are the best movies ever made and I had very high hopes for 'The Hobbit'. Were they met? Mostly. The material is not epic enough for them to reach LOTR levels of quality, but the worst of anything Tolkien is still better than 99% of the movies coming out today. With great performances, an incredible soundtrack and a huge feeling of nostalgia, 'The Hobbit' opens the road for one of the most thrilling adventure rides ever put on screen. Grade: 91/100
  14. 18. Diary of a Whimpy Kid 2: Roderick Rules (2011) This is the highest rated comedy in this top and one of my favourites ever, behind only classics like 'Home Alone' or 'The Addams Family'. It is just a light hearted, fun ride, where the little kid learns how to be bad from the big bro. I've seen it many time and Devon Bostik's character really grew on me. He is awesome! Jeff Kinney really managed to create a series that can serve as a source of entertainment for people all ages. Grade: 89/100 17. Inception (2010) This is Nolan's best movie (and the first one with a grade of 90/100) and pretty much a masterpiece in the true sense of the word. Brilliantly acted, well directed, visually stunning and overall mindfucking, 'Inception', just like 'interstellar', is one of those movie really worth waiting for. I can't really find a flaw to this flick, execution wise, so the only reason it is not higher on the chart is that I rank movies by the overall level of enjoyment and fun I get from them (so the execution is pretty much secondary to me - if after a movie I feel satisfied, then that was a very good film, no matter how many plot holes or bad acting it had) and there are movies I enjoyed more. Also, anyone listening to Zimmer's soundtrack for this and not agreeing it is genius really needs to have their ears examined. Grade: 90/100
  15. Green Lantern was awful. The VFX was also awful. And I don't like Ryan Reynolds. Plus, it resembled a Marvel movie too much, too kiddish.
  16. But that's exactly why I don't like most Marvel movie and why X-Men: The Last Stand is my fav SH film (because of Jean turning dark). It's funnier to see that than a boring straight moral arrow. And also why the only SW I like is ROTS. Anakin's transformation, even if not perfectly handled, was awesome to watch.
