Movie looks pretty slick. Wouldn't be surprised to hear it's high for a horror film, 20-30M or so. Gotta say, I'm surprised at these reactions. But if people are able to enjoy it, I'm glad!

The people on Twitter who keep arguing that avatar has no cultural impact in my mind are honestly just so wrapped up in their own echo chambers. That’s part of the problem with social media imo, is that people get into their own circles, and assume that everyone outside of that online circle thinks the same way they do. Just because someone doesn’t care about avatar and none of their friends do doesn’t mean that millions of people around the world are huge fans. It was the same thing earlier this year with some people I know irl saying that nobody is actually watching top gun Maverick. When I asked why, they said because none of their Letterboxd friends are watching it. Avatar TWOW is a massive, resounding success, and regardless of whether it ends it’s run at 650M or 850M, the avatar and Cameron Stans on these boards should be very, very proud.

As long as Puss passes 100M total, I’ll be happy at this point.

M3GAN had the best start for a horror flick in 2022, ahead of Scream (34,000 admissions). It is also the best launch for a horror title in December since Paranormal Activity in 2009 (99,000 admissions). A debut like this could honestly suggest 40M domestic opening is possible, if that Scream comp is any indication. Not sure about other French comps, if anyone on here is more well-versed in France's box office. I'm not too sure what the COVID situation in France was like when Scream opened, so maybe that film was hindered quite a bit.

I agree, TLM is going to be huge. How huge, I’m not sure yet. My gut tells me to expect Aladdin numbers for OW, and then wherever the film goes from there is going to depend on WOM.

Honestly, if Shazam 2 ends up being a mediocre/bad movie (aka Black Adam) I could see it hitting sun-100M. I’m confident it’ll be at least decent, so I wouldn’t personally go lower than 50/130 for now.

For the last time lol, nobody was saying Black Adam over Avatar. No one on this site at least. Perhaps some crazy DC fan on Facebook or whatever said something like “BA will be the biggest movie of the year.” But you’re taking something that nobody ever said and trying to use it to shape your narrative, which is honestly kind of sad since the movie is doing well enough that you shouldn’t need to do that.
