  1. I’ve never seen anyone in here wish death upon a public figure, but I have seen it on the internet in general. So let’s just say, that we can agree that someone is a shitty human being while also not “wishing death” upon them. Anyone who isn’t able to do both shouldn’t be on the internet lol.
  2. I know there are much bigger stories this weekend, but the fact that Dog is going to finish within a few million of A Dog’s Purpose is outstanding. That was (to my knowledge) the biggest “dog” movie of the last decade. Dog getting there is incredible, and a sign that the theatrical experience is indeed back baby.
  3. This is nice to see. I’ve been complaining so much that “they don’t make big studio comedies anymore”.
  4. Marketing, plus studios don’t get 100% of box office revenue. That being said, some people tend to inflate how much a movie “needs” to make (and I’m not even getting into Hollywood accounting).
  5. Fuck it, I like Shawn Levy. Hopefully this is rated R, I wanna see what he can do with an R-rated Reynolds.
  6. BTS is already at like 0.7M presales in Canada for Saturday. If Canada scales correctly, accounting for 10% of the box office... that’s 7M at least.
  7. I'll see if I can get bigger data, but locally both showings of this are completely sold out. Would be curious to see if its box office is reported, I can easily see it coming in second place for the day if it is.
  8. That's actually a pretty great Wednesday hold given the muted Tuesday! Bodes well.
  9. January The Tragedy of Macbeth Licorice Pizza The King's Man The Matrix: Resurrections American Underdog The 355 Scream Nightmare Alley February Blacklight Marry Me Death on the Nile Uncharted Parallel Mothers The Worst Person in the World Cyrano Dog March Cyrano Spider-Man: No Way Home The Batman The Batman Total: 20
  10. April 22 is easily the most interesting weekend in the next few months. 4 essentially original movies competing for limited screens after 3 “big” blockbusters back to back to back. I think they all look good in their own right, and I just wish they were a little more spread out to give each one some breathing room.
  11. Not to be one to try and pull more info from ya, but I was also wondering if you had any info on the other releases on April 22 (The Duke and Unbearable Weight). Any word on whether they might be delayed? Or are they planned as more limited releases?
  12. Monday was probably fuelled by some Sunday spillover. In terms of how I think the week will play out, I’m expecting a somewhat luted Tuesday bump (12.5 or so) followed by a bigger-than-expected Wednesday drop that will cause people to freak out (8M), a relatively flat Thursday, followed by a really good Friday jump that will stop all the incessant meltdowns.
  13. My local is actually doing Thursday previews. Only A24s that have gotten that here is Hereditary and Green Knight.
  14. The DC Heroes ad before The Batman actually kind of got me hyped for the rest of DC's stuff this year. I think superpets could break out more than most kids films have during the pandemic (say, 40/130M). Black Adam will be more of a Shazam sized hit but that's still pretty solid. Flash I think could break out especially if some of the rumours are true, and while I hated the first Aquaman, The Lost Kingdom will probably be a hit as well.
  15. Saw Batman again, still pretty good, but on second viewing I can definitely see where it drags a bit.
  16. Turning Red wouldn’t have opened much higher than Onward. Still, a 40M opener and 55M second weekend for Batman would have been nice.
  17. I'm about to lose it if Disney cancels Lightyear's theatrical release.
  18. As long as Batman hits 127.5M, I'm happy (made a bet, I took 130, they took 125). I want to win this bet.
  19. Some did, some didn’t. Granted, I’m only able to look at ~150-200 theaters, and only a small handful that aren’t already grind (open all day long) went grind for Batman. So I’d say the effect, at least in Canada, was negligible.
