  1. January The Tragedy of Macbeth Licorice Pizza The King's Man The Matrix: Resurrections Total: 4
  2. Won’t wanna open the week after Batman. Sony knows this is a 1-2 week wonder; they don’t want that week to be overshadowed.
  3. Matrix definitely over performing in Canada. It’s at 2x Kings Man for today sales
  4. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/beta.ctvnews.ca/national/canada/2022/1/7/1_5731911.html It never should have been a thing in the first place, but in good news today, conversion therapy is now illegal in Canada. After all the bad news we’ve had recently, this is really really good stuff.
  5. This needs to move to March now. It’ll get clobbered where it’s at now. Plus, Batman is a better CBM to go up against for a kids movie than something more kid-friendly like Dr Strange/MCU.
  6. I have no clue how Omicron is going to affect this. But honestly other than it’s unfortunate timing in terms of release date, I’d say this is setting up to be the perfect storm. If omicron wasn’t a factor, I’d say we could be seeing 40M for the 4-day for this.
  7. I mean bad if you run a movie theater lol
  8. 100% this. Me and my GM has about an hour long discussion last night about how dire the next few months look while going over the Q1 release schedule.

  10. I know a lot of the talk is about this week, but just looking ahead at next month, I wouldn’t be surprised if The 355 opens similar to The Rhythm Section a few years back. There’s absolutely zero buzz for this thing.
  11. Spider-Man dropping 75-80% in Canada unless walk-ups today are insanely strong. Although that is to be expected.
  12. Spider-Man ay nearly 6x the #2 movie in Canada today. Matrix at #2, Sing not far behind in admissions, but ATP is lower so Matrix is safely ahead. Kingsman about 1/3 of Matrix. The “smaller” releases aren’t doing a whole lot, but the biggest of them is LP despite being in less than half as many theaters. American Underdog is doubling Journal for Jordan (I don’t even think there’s a single theater in the country that’s sold more than 30 tickets for the latter). Oh lol and MacBeth is ahead of Jordan even though the former is only playing in 4 theaters.
  13. Well NWH has currently tripled Sing so far locally (don’t take that as a generalized statement that it’s gonna do 45M) but basically it’s numbers are good.
  14. Sing and Matrix so far are within 3000 tickets of each other in Canada so far today (with Matrix being higher). That being said, Matrix’s ATP is way higher than Sing’s so it will easily win the day. Given numbers at my local, 15M for Sing today wouldn’t surprise me at all.
  15. Before we freak out about the drop, let’s remember that today is Tuesday, most chains have discounts up to 40-50% off regular price. We’ve been seeing SO MANY sellouts the last few days, and most theaters don’t have the capacity/screens to add even more NWH showtimes for Tuesday alone to make up for the $ lost on discounted tickets. So a small drop today doesn’t concern me. Our ticket sales at my local were up 30%, but actual $ drop is going to be 5-10%.
  16. Just going to throw this out there, my local area’s Monday is running 70% of Sunday so far. We’ll see how walk-ups do later tonight, but it has a shot at reaching 75%.
  17. Batman imo is going to be like a 120/350 run. I never was really on board the 200+ OW or 400+ DOM trains.
