  1. Never heard of either of those quotes. But no, to answer your question, Ice Cube is not a star here. People know him but he doesn't really draw much of an audience. Just thinking back to his recent movies, Ride Along didn't make much of a dent, it did the equivalent of $45M. Ride Along 2 did a little better equivalent to ~$55M. Straight Outta Compton was a hit (although nowhere near the level in the US) but not sure if that counts. Looking online, I don't think the Friday films got a release, in fact most of his movies either had a very limited release or didn't release at all.
  2. It's sad that Midnight Special has done badly. But I feel truly privileged that I was able to watch it - and I'm seeing it again tomorrow. It's spectacular and beautiful, it really is like watching Close Encounters, it has that feeling of awe and wonder.
  3. I hadn't even heard of Barbershop 1 and 2 before this weekend. Doubt it gets released here in the UK.
  4. BATMAN V SUPERMAN took in $9.03M this weekend and has grossed $311.33M to date domestically. #BatmanVSuperman
  5. That's exactly it. I can understand someone having the opinion that it will open to 100M, but as far as I'm concerned, "locked" means that you cannot feasibly imagine a situation in which the target is missed.
  6. I dont think anyone was ever doubting that the hardcore Harry Potter fans will show up. The question is who else will. 100M is very far from guaranteed. You're really saying it's impossible for the movie to open to like 95M? I personally have it at ~70M.
  7. How is Fantastic Beasts a lock? It's a spin off with none of the characters - and the entire Harry Potter series appeal revolved around the core characters. You really cannot imagine any situation where Fantastic Beasts makes "only" 99M?
  8. fuck me, I feel like an idiot. I was wondering what the point of that moment was.
  9. Yeah, it seems bad to call something a bomb 2 years before release, but I can't see how it gets out of the shadow of this movie. regardless, I can't wait to see how Andy Serkis makes a movie.
  10. I know it's been talked about for years but I don't think his Animal Farm is ever gonna get made. It would be expensive and it's hard to justify that when the film would have a limited audience. Most adult dramas aren't laiden with expensive effects.
  11. Erm, do you actually know what "bomb" means? Ice Age is not going to bomb. The last one made 900M on a 90M budget. One before that made 900M on a 90M budget. I think there's a trend here... Why would Now You See Me bomb? The first one had a 4x multi, that's super rare for an action/heist movie. It was really well liked, there's little reason other than competition why this one would not have an increase of sorts. Why is X Men going to "disappoint"? Unless your idea of disappointment is anything under 300M.
