  1. It's got nothing to do with what John Lasseter wants to make. It's probably the fact that CARS is one of Disney's biggest brands. Between the release of CARS and CARS 2, it grossed over $8 billion in merchandise sales. Sorry but it is massive. I'm surprised they haven't gotten to the point where they release one every other year, frankly.
  2. Holy shit this was fantastic. I don't usually like gross-out humour but I was in tears laughing the whole way through. I don't think I've ever heard an audience laugh as loudly as that for so long. I also love the fact that it's only 80 minutes. It's not dragged out, all the jokes work.
  3. And finally, this leads us to the conclusion of this list. I'm sorry it took so long to complete, and I'm grateful for the 17 lists submitted. There are some really great films highlighted in this list, including many that I had never heard of. Comedy and laughter is something core to the human experience, something that can transcend age, gender, nationality, and language, and it's great that the genre continues to be a central (if sometimes sidelined) element of cinema. Thank you so much for persevering and reading this list; I hope you've enjoyed it. The final film was separated from #2 by just a single point. But if you want to find out what it is, I need to ask you a few questions...
  4. jeez, can't believe it's taken me 4 months to get through this. I am an idiot

  6. 88. 337 POINTS "This is heavy." Released: 1985 Director: Robert Zemeckis This Fifty Funniest Films list is a curious thing. Some entries have made members weep; others have made members sing. One thing's for sure, though, everyone loves BACK TO THE FUTURE. It's gone back to #3.
  7. 4. 272 POINTS "Yes! We're all individuals!" Released: 1979 Director: Terry Jones Monty Python has landed. The wise men of Box Office Theory followed my posts here and found the very naughty boy that is MONTY PYTHON'S LIFE OF BRIAN. Controversial, endlessly quotable, and genuinely edgy, it's nailed in to the top of this list at #4.
  8. 5. 265 POINTS "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!" Released: 1964 Director: God Yes, Stanley Kubrick's politically satirical comedy made it here. One of the most influential comedy films of all time and Kubrick's only foray into comedy at all, DR. STRANGELOVE OR: HOW I LEARNED TO STOP WORRYING AND LOVE THE BOMB decides that it will indeed be #5 on our list.
  9. 6. 243 POINTS "According to the map, we've only gone four inches." Released: 1994 Director: Farrelly Brothers Now something a bit lighter... this buddy movie was a massive blockbuster hit upon release, and clearly has held up well enough to earn the respect of the Box Office Theory crowd. DUMB AND DUMBER is at #6, though how its characters found their way there is anyone's guess.
  10. 7. 237 POINTS "Never give up. Never surrender." Released: 1999 Director: Dean Parisot I gotta be honest, I love GALAXY QUEST. It's great fun, it's full of heart and it is absolutely hysterical. I haven't seen much of Star Trek, but it's clear that everyone behind this movie has a genuine love for what they're parodying. But the best part of the film is the late Alan Rickman. He's a great comedic performer, something that people sometimes forget; and watching this film is a wonderful way to remember him. His character's cynicism and development arc is a great thing to behold, and he holds the key to this film's charm. Alan Rickman was an intelligent, funny, charismatic and inspirational performer, and he will be missed greatly. By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Worvan, you shall be avenged. RIP.
  11. The top 10 / 20 are almost all classic/iconic comedy films. But you might not guess the next one.
  12. #8 223 POINTS "Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." Released: 1987 Director: Rob Reiner Quotable, rewatchable, timeless. Fantasy romance is rarely a genre that works, but over thirty years, THE PRINCESS BRIDE has become a cult classic, and charmed its way up to the #8 spot in our list.
  13. 9. 217 POINTS "I got a good mind to join a club and beat you over the head with it." Released: 1933 Director: Leo McCarey And now for the Marx Brothers. Undisputably their best movie, this is now one of the ultimate icons of comedy. DUCK SOUP is the #9 funniest film in Freedonia.
  14. 10. 215 POINTS "Who ya gonna call?" Released: 1984 Director: Ivan Reitman There's little surprise to see this film on any comedy list, thanks to its popular appeal and unique aesthetic. GHOSTBUSTERS tears down our list to #10.
  15. No, he's not. Marquis Warren, John Ruth, Chris Mannix, Daisy Domergue, Jody Domergue, Oswaldo Mobray, Joe Gage, Senor Bob, and General Smithers. That's 9.
  16. Sorry I didn't realise it would go through, on the old forum it was automatically censored. And yeah, it seems to be a much more offensive word to Americans.
  17. Most language seems to include the word c**t nowadays too.
  18. um yes... Scotland, England, Wales, we're all the same country, all British.
  19. It really irks me that The Hateful Eight, marketed as Tarantino's 8th film, is actually his 9th film and there are 9 "hatefuls" in the movie.
