  1. don't really know why I'm replying to this, but in theory can it not make a film more engrossing / immersive, to have a real-time smooth experience with no cuts to remind you you're watching a film? I didn't like the Revenant but the action scenes that had a single take were pretty incredible and I felt like I was right there. also, what brian de palma movie has long shots?
  2. well, damn, completely forgot about this, oops. Btw how did Just Mercy get on to the nominations when its only been out for one day? and not a single post / only one vote in the RTM thread.... ta.
  3. great for 1917. I thought it would be a minor flop a couple months ago, but it's just gone from strength to strength. really strong opening weekend and from the audience reactions & continued good press it'll receive through to the oscars, it should do really well. 150M+ should be on the cards?
  4. Saw the Book of Mormon today with my family. Fucking loooved it. And pleasantly surprised by my parents loving it too.
  5. I found it a little tricky to follow, the second half I didn't really understand what was happening most of the time. A lot of clutter. But you're right that the atmosphere makes up for it. Cool little noir film.
  6. Can't wait for this. Not generally interested in anime but your name was so freaking delightful. Booked my ticket for the end of the month. (Just has a 1-night-only release here)
  7. Ant Man 2 and Captain Marvel are the only good films in phase 3... (other than Avengers finale)
  8. anyone who seriously thought this was gonna be some kind of sub-horror MCU film was delusional. even Kevin Feige said before that the media had taken the word "horror" out of context for the film. He said it will have "elements" of scary stuff and he compared it to Indiana Jones. Much as i love Indiana Jones, you horror nerds would probably agree that it is not a horror film.
  9. Honestly, great news..? Not sure why you guys are reacting badly? Scott Derrickson is a talentless hack and the first Doctor Strange sucked. So now they might hire an actual good director. Depends on who they hire but this is a good thing.
  10. ticket sales are really, really, really strong here in the UK - although you would expect it to do better in the UK than North America. but still, things very promising. Wouldnt be surprised with $40M+ in the US.
  11. Wow, 1917 is selling REALLY well. 4-5M+ weekend I reckon... if my locals are anything to go by.
  12. No, all the "stars" get decent screentime, it's characters played by actors I've not seen before, who get little time with us, but have plot points hanging over their heads. Just a little difficult to remember everything.
  13. this year's Roman J. Israel, Esq.
  14. You live in India, please don't freaking lecture me on whether people liked Top Gun in my own damn country.
  15. I think Top Gun 2 will be huge, and yes I think it is set to be a more successful film than Tenet. But, that's just my opinion. As for your claim that Tenet is a "british film", why would audiences think that? Dunkirk was a massive hit in the UK but that is part of our history. I don't see why audiences would associate Tenet as being British? It's not set in the UK and it's a sci-fi spy movie with an American cast. It's an American film. in fact disregard audiences, why do you even think it is a British film? it isn't. As for IMAX - it's not impossible for both have IMAX screens. I personally suspect Top Gun might move forward a week or two.
  16. The timing is due to holidays. American holidays are earlier than British ones. 17 July is the weekend before holidays start. Same reason as why every Pixar film gets a June release in the USA, but a late July release in the UK. Studios reckon it is worth delaying them so they can profit off the school holidays. I'm not convinced it is worth it, if it means going against a rival blockbuster on same day.
  17. Indeed... But here in the UK they are day and date the same release. Should be fun. I would think one of them will move. I may be a bit out of the loop, but I was under the impression that digital IMAX cameras are the new thing, like the ones that were used on Avengers. I'm aware that the cameras used on Top Gun 2 are digital not traditional film IMAX. Also... I appreciate you are trying to share information, but I am well aware of how IMAX branding works and that vast majority of "IMAX" releases are identical to the non-IMAX version.
  18. Jeez, this Michelle Williams thing has really got out of hand. yikes.
  19. The critic sets the Fresh / Rotten score when they submit their review to RT. So in this case it's just down to different critics treating a numerical score differently in meaning. I read the negative 2.5/4 review and it's clearly very negative about the film. I can't read the positive one as Chicago Tribune is blocked in europe, but I'd assume it is a vaguely positive review. I mean just look in this forum's Review subforum and the scores. A movie with votes in the "C" score, some of those will be people who enjoyed it and some will be people who did not enjoy it. People treat scores differently.
