  1. There are a couple of possibilities between "dead after xmas" and adding another 200M DOM a la Frozen. You shouldn't be disappointed if it stops at the 450-500 range.
  2. Following WiR2: 2.7 8.64 (+220%) 19 (+120%) 12.16 (-36%) Weekend total: 39.8
  3. You are not far from the truth actually. It was built after WW2 as a monument dedicated to the "liberation" of Hungary by the occupying Soviet army. "To the memory of the liberating Soviet heroes, raised by the grateful Hungarian people". They even put a statue of a Soviet soldier there. Of course after the fall of communism they removed the soldier and rewrote the text to: "To the memory of those who died for the independence, freedom and prosperity of Hungary"
  4. Well, it's not. It's 100% Budapest. This is the opening shot: It takes 5 minutes for me to get up to the top of the hill from home as I live just on the other side.
  5. Which shot are you talking about? Not sure how big part of the movie will be set in Budapest, but it always plays other cities in movies. One example of it is Spy (2015), in which the majority of Paris and Rome scenes were obviously filmed here.
  6. So until Dec 4, Frozen 2 already has a 200 million headstart over Frozen while still beating it in daily grosses. This weekend will tell us a lot about the chances for 500M DOM. Frozen reached the next 100 million on Christmas Eve. If Frozen 2 could do the same, I think it's safe to say it's going past 500M (or close enough for Disney to push it through the line).
  7. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/weekly/2016W51/?ref_=bo_wly_table_3 Moana decreased by only 5% when Rogue One opened, I think it's the best comparison. This year it could be even better because Mon-Thu will be 23-26 which is much better than 18-22 obviously. Apples to oranges. We are talking about a specific December week, not just any weekend of a big opener.
  8. SW9 arrives on 5th week Dec 20-26, both weekend and weekdays can be strong (even the 24th). Family films rarely decrease much in that period. The original Frozen increased by almost 50% on the same week (of course it was an anomaly). It made 47M on Week 5 and 57M on the week after. And it's still mind-blowing how it was able to manage 100M after New Year.
  9. Some of the locations in the trailer: The Danube In the background - The Parlament and Margharet Island Keleti Railway Station Some of the action takes place in the 5th district (like the part with the tank)
  10. Even 38-39M (-55-56%) would be fantastic after this crazy first 10 days.
  11. There is no point comparing Frozen & Frozen 2 10 day gross, the 2nd is so much bigger (and the 1st opened wide on Wed, not Fri). But you can compare them day to day starting this weekend. Nov 29 Fri 26.840 vs. 34.131 (+27.2%) Nov 30 Sat 25.343 vs. 32.364 (+27.7%) Dec 1 Sun 15.208 vs. 19.483 (+28.1%) Dec 2 Mon 2.505 vs. 3.3 (est) (+31.7%)
  12. It's not surprising it reminds you of Red Sparrow. Both movies were filmed in the glorious city of Budapest. The hill with the statue is Gellert Hill, I live just on the other side of it. Other then spotting a few familiar locations this wasn't that exciting for me, but it's just a teaser.
  13. It's a good thing we have the exact same calendar as 2013. Makes it much easier to compare Frozen 2 dailies with the first movie. Monday drop is 83.1 if the 3.3 holds. The first movie dropped 83.5 on the same Monday (2 Dec). Nothing too out of ordinary. Frozen made 307M after this Sunday, which is obviously too much for the 2nd installment to ask considering the mind-blowing holds of the original. It even returned to 1st place in January. But for 500M DOM, F2 only needs 211M more, which is roughly 69% of that amount. While it makes more than the first one per day I think this goal is not in danger.
  14. It can be overlooked by some, but I absolutely loved The Next Rigth Thing, it's so heartbreaking. As a 28 years old guy I very rarely get this emotional over movies. Maybe I'm getting softer with age. Sadly I was only able to watch the movie with Hungarian dub, but I checked out the original version since and it's even more packed with emotions. Kristen Bell is wonderful, the pain in her voice is overwhelming. Need to catch a subbed showing.
  15. @captainwondyful So about Some Things Never Change: I think it fits perfectly in the theme of the movie as an introduction song, telling us the general feelings of the characters after 3 years passed since the original timeline. Interestingly this song is pretty much about how things do change, like the autumn is the season most associated with changing.
  16. 1. Let It Go 2. For The First Time In Forever (Reprise) 3. Show Yourself 4. For The First Time In Forever 5. The Next Right Thing 6. Do You Want To Build A Snowman 7. Love Is An Open Door 8. Lost In The Woods 9. Vuelie 10. Frozen Heart 11. Some Things Never Change 12. Into The Unknown 13. All Is Found 14. In Summer 15. When I Am Older 16. Fixer Upper 17. Reindeers Are Better Than People What do you dislike about it?
  17. Shrek 2 is the winner when it comes to OW/DOM total multi, although it opened on a Wednesday. 4x multi is incredibly hard to achieve. It would mean over 521M in the case of Frozen II.
  18. Rewatched the first Frozen and it holds up exceptionally well. Anna saving her sister is a huge emotional punch. Going to watch the follow-up with 4 of my younger siblings tomorrow.
  19. It's because nobody in the audience cares about critic reviews, they decide for themselves if a movie is worth seeing. Frozen was something far more memorable in the eyes of the public than anything else WDAS has offered in this decade. I think what contributed to the success of Frozen (apart from the great soundtrack) was the connection between the two main heros. Family is rarely the main theme of kids' movies these days.
  20. What's the point of having a consensus when less than a quarter of the usual critics gave the movie a score? 83% & 7.0 average so far.
  21. For me: 1. Beauty and the Beast 2. The Lion King 3. Mulan 4. Aladdin 5. Pocahontas 6. Hercules 7. The Hunchback of Notre Dame vs. 1. Frozen 2. Zootopia 3. Moana 4. Tangled 5. Wreck-it Ralph 6. Big Hero 6 7. Winnie the Pooh I would say the first pack is better by a decent margin and I don't say it because of nostalgia. I watched most of them as an adult.
  22. 2020 is still the same decade, isn't it? Between 2011-2019 WDAS has a better average than Pixar in my opinion as well. Of the 10 Pixar movies only Inside Out (and maybe Coco) is up there with the classics of the 90s and 2000s. Having so many unnecessary sequels didn't help them either. Meanwhile Disney animation was pretty consistent, maybe not on the level of the golden era of the 90s but that's impossible to top.
  23. I think Frozen was so hyped after it came out that a backlash was inevitable among males. And also among those people who love the older Disney movies. I think it still needs some time to earn a place among the classics in the eyes of the public. Eventually it will get there. I will be there to make it more 4-quadrant (missed the first in cinemas), but definitely not on opening weekend. I don't want to listen to the noise of small kids, thank you. Monday or Tuesday evening should be fine.
