The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo
marveldcfox replied to grim22's topic in Numbers and Data
I think even #5 spot for bomberian is too generous. More like 9th or 10th. I am thinking Chun li / Dragonball evolution type opening weekend. The only law that works is @Telemachos LAW. Him liking the movie results in bombage of catastrophic proportions. -

You deserve this for not supporting Valerian. next bomb...Ready Player One. -
A monster calls didn't release in any of the multiplexes I go to. Maybe not even in the country. So yeah...didn't watch it. Many great films but bombs don't release here. Also, what's the point of watching a bomb? Word gets out really fast in my country and theaters are empty for a bomb. I once watched a movie alone in the theater. It wasn't fun.

Peter Jackson is one of my favorites. He needs to direct more often. Sadly, he wasted time on The Hobbit franchise. Liked the movies, but could have used his energy on something else. -
For that he would have to recast Valerian. I mean Dehaan and Delevgine leading a 200+M budget movie...sigh. Most of his big movies had an A list actor so I don't get it. He focused way too much on the visuals, cgi and action than the leads. Biggest mistake ever. Someone like a James Franco would have been great. Hell Chris Pine, CHris Evans, Chris Hemsworth...anyone. The leads should have been actors who look mature. Not actors who look like teenagers. Dehaan is 31!!!!!!!!! FUCK.

Yikes. I mean its a french comic book yet France isn't all that excited. Less hype than Lucy says it all. Europe will support Dunkirk. Bombs away. I don't like associating myself with bombs so bye bye Valerian. Will catch you when you hit the interwebs. I can say with guarantee that my club http://forums.boxofficetheory.com/topic/24334-valerian-under-dunkirk-apes-3-girls-trip-and-spiderman-homecoming-on-july-21st-club/ is going to be a smashing success. So in the end I will have seen only Spider-man in theatres this july. Nothing in August. September - Kingsman 2 October - busy so none November - thor 3 December - star wars

LOL @ all saying this was cut for general public because I can guarantee you that the general public will still remain confused. This has star power (Harisson Ford and Ryan Gosling) and A+ director coming off Arrival, so it should manage a 35-40M opening weekend because reviews will be 90+% as critics love the director.

I blame Besson for the mess. Guy should have been actively involved in the marketing of this film and should have gone pillar to post to get a big distributor for atleast North America. Also, he should have hired a dedicated marketing team that helped distributors all around the world to market this in a much better way. Such an ambitious and visual stunner just flat out tanking everywhere is not the way to present it. I know filmmaking is hard and on top of that marketing, but if you really want to succeed then you gotta leave no stone unturned. Valerian deserves success. Sadly, it seems to be destined to vanish without even putting up a fight at BO. And I am not talking about just domestic. Wait and watch when overseas numbers hit.
