  1. With Peter Jackson's name this has serious potential. Kinda wish Valerian had an advantage like that. I blame Besson for the mess. Guy should have been actively involved in the marketing of this film and should have gone pillar to post to get a big distributor for atleast North America. Also, he should have hired a dedicated marketing team that helped distributors all around the world to market this in a much better way. Such an ambitious and visual stunner just flat out tanking everywhere is not the way to present it. I know filmmaking is hard and on top of that marketing, but if you really want to succeed then you gotta leave no stone unturned. Valerian deserves success. Sadly, it seems to be destined to vanish without even putting up a fight at BO. And I am not talking about just domestic. Wait and watch when overseas numbers hit.
  2. Fox has gotta be extremely disappointed. This movie is a major underperformer everywhere. Sadly, I don't think China will rescue this. Really hoping Kingsman 2 doesn't underperform big time. I want that to be a big spy/action franchise.
  3. It's opening was 3rd among all spider man films, but wom is excellent so it will end up as highest grossing. Good. India didn't disappoint. Let's see if China reciprocates.
  4. Peregrine was really good. So looking forward to this a lot.
  5. The rangers were all pretty darn good...and the actors are likeable. The movie is okay because of them and their acting. It was the A list star headlining as the villain and the last half that were beyond awful and dragged the movie down.
  6. You know it's a guarantee that Wonder Woman 2 is going to drop domestically even if it is better than WW. This one is on track to 400M domestic and I think has maxed out its potential atleast domestically. It's like Sam Raimi's Spider-Man situation.
  7. Yeah...I am having a hard time picturing the guy chosen as Aladdin. Like I am not sure he will look good in long hair. Now don't tell me he won't have long hair in this...that would piss me off. I think the movie will be good...disney cannot afford to fail on this one. Naomi Scott also needs a big hit to fix her career cuz power rangers tanked even though it was okay and she was good in it.
  8. Yeah aladdin is very popular. That's why I feel with an Indian lead this could do A LOT more. It's okay though. It will still be an awesome movie. Yeah, there have been many aladdin movies/tv shows/animated films made in India. All of them suck balls as they lacked the budget for vfx and had horrible slapsticky acting. Up until a yesterday, casting was still being decided...don't know whether Indian media can be trusted but here you go...guy would have looked good as aladdin..don't know whether he can act. http://www.hindustantimes.com/hollywood/aladdin-found-guy-ritchie-s-search-ends-at-bollywood-s-siddharth-gupta/story-UJpmKGmnsNlEyr0c059FPI.html

  10. I know. Tbh even a full Indian wouldn't have helped much at the BO as Indians are too fond of watching male dominated movies. Both genders enjoy such movies. Things are obviously changing, but still long way to go. Now an Indian or Indian/American or Indian/British Aladdin....that would have been something.
  11. You know another problem with this movie is the title. They should have just called it "Valerian & Lauraline". Simple and beautiful. It gets across the point that those are the names of the lead characters. Also, it is good marketing ploy i.e appealing to male and female demographics. I cannot believe Luc and the thousand distributors didn't think of that. "Valerian and the city of a thousand planets" is a mouthful and too cumbersome.
  12. good cast, but it won't do as well as it could have in India. An Indian Aladdin and Jasmine would have ensured 30+M gross. It may gross 15-20M if Will's Genie is the highlight and he comes to promote the movie. Should break records in the middle east.
  13. LMAO. They included a shot that wasn't even in the movie. That movie was such a clusterfuck. The best shots in the trailers were nowhere to be seen in the final product. Infact, they were replaced by lame shit.
  14. inspiration from fant4stic. Classic that movie. Gave us some great stuff.
  15. You have a knack for supporting boxoffice bombs. But hey I loved both The Lone Ranger and The Sorceror's Apprentice. Oh.....damn...just recalled... Inception (Nolan) vs TSA Dunkirk (Nolan) vs Valerian similar boxoffice fate?
  16. Sadly, I was right about Apes 3 opening the lowest and grossing the least of the 3 apes flicks. But imagine if this hadn't received amazing reviews...probably wouldn't have done more than 45M OW. Next Valerian 15M This simply isn't the year for sequels no matter how good the reviews. Keeping that in mind, things are not looking good for Kingsman 2. If I was an exec at fox I would have pushed up Kingsman 2 to August. Sigh. Really want this to become the next big action/spy franchise. Hoping it matches atleast first one at the boxoffice domestically.
  17. Did everyone watch the same trailer I did? I loved the trailer as it has some great visuals, weird costumes and funky acting, but I can easily see this having trouble in selling to the general public. You know it kinda reminded me of Tomorrowland, which I dug.
  18. Rise I feel is the best paced of the 3. Dawn is better technically speaking i.e. CGI, sound effects etc. For me Rise is 9.5 Dawn is 8.5 War TBD
  19. I have to visit Disney Land USA someday to soak in all the Avatar/Pandora and Star Wars theme parks. I went to Disneyland Paris in 2001, which was an amazing experience. Has it been upgraded with new theme parks?
  20. This means we are never going to see a Roger Deakin shot Star Wars film. That makes me extremely sad.
