With Peter Jackson's name this has serious potential. Kinda wish Valerian had an advantage like that. I blame Besson for the mess. Guy should have been actively involved in the marketing of this film and should have gone pillar to post to get a big distributor for atleast North America. Also, he should have hired a dedicated marketing team that helped distributors all around the world to market this in a much better way. Such an ambitious and visual stunner just flat out tanking everywhere is not the way to present it. I know filmmaking is hard and on top of that marketing, but if you really want to succeed then you gotta leave no stone unturned. Valerian deserves success. Sadly, it seems to be destined to vanish without even putting up a fight at BO. And I am not talking about just domestic. Wait and watch when overseas numbers hit. -

Fox has gotta be extremely disappointed. This movie is a major underperformer everywhere. Sadly, I don't think China will rescue this. Really hoping Kingsman 2 doesn't underperform big time. I want that to be a big spy/action franchise. -
Yeah...I am having a hard time picturing the guy chosen as Aladdin. Like I am not sure he will look good in long hair. Now don't tell me he won't have long hair in this...that would piss me off. I think the movie will be good...disney cannot afford to fail on this one. Naomi Scott also needs a big hit to fix her career cuz power rangers tanked even though it was okay and she was good in it.

Yeah aladdin is very popular. That's why I feel with an Indian lead this could do A LOT more. It's okay though. It will still be an awesome movie. Yeah, there have been many aladdin movies/tv shows/animated films made in India. All of them suck balls as they lacked the budget for vfx and had horrible slapsticky acting. Up until a yesterday, casting was still being decided...don't know whether Indian media can be trusted but here you go...guy would have looked good as aladdin..don't know whether he can act. http://www.hindustantimes.com/hollywood/aladdin-found-guy-ritchie-s-search-ends-at-bollywood-s-siddharth-gupta/story-UJpmKGmnsNlEyr0c059FPI.html

I know. Tbh even a full Indian wouldn't have helped much at the BO as Indians are too fond of watching male dominated movies. Both genders enjoy such movies. Things are obviously changing, but still long way to go. Now an Indian or Indian/American or Indian/British Aladdin....that would have been something.

You know another problem with this movie is the title. They should have just called it "Valerian & Lauraline". Simple and beautiful. It gets across the point that those are the names of the lead characters. Also, it is good marketing ploy i.e appealing to male and female demographics. I cannot believe Luc and the thousand distributors didn't think of that. "Valerian and the city of a thousand planets" is a mouthful and too cumbersome.

Sadly, I was right about Apes 3 opening the lowest and grossing the least of the 3 apes flicks. But imagine if this hadn't received amazing reviews...probably wouldn't have done more than 45M OW. Next Valerian 15M This simply isn't the year for sequels no matter how good the reviews. Keeping that in mind, things are not looking good for Kingsman 2. If I was an exec at fox I would have pushed up Kingsman 2 to August. Sigh. Really want this to become the next big action/spy franchise. Hoping it matches atleast first one at the boxoffice domestically.
