  1. I hate the faux edginess of that review. We both loved Truth though. <3 Switch Mara and Blanchett and get Mrs. Cage double nommed!
  2. What the fuck is an "amount of reception?" How can you have an amount of reception? Were the both reviewed the same amount of times? If you mean similar reception or same type of reception you are still wrong. Was wrong about that. Still pissed about semantics.
  3. Miles Ahead has been confirmed for 2016. Genius I can't imagine being a contender for this year at the very least. Burnt is supposedly awful. It's post production has been a huge mess. Black Mass is getting sort of tepid reviews here apparently.
  4. What? Best actor is the weakest it has been in recent years...
  5. Hated The Danish Girl and I've been its biggest advocater. Some will like it a lot and it's art direction is fantastic. That being said it in with: Best Picture Best Actor Best Supporting Actress Best Production Design Best Costum Design Possibly Best Hair and Makeup Best Score Best Cinematography Best Adapted Screenplay Best Editinf. It'll get six or seven noms. Might win Production Design or Costume Design. Vikander has a fighting chance. I didn't like Redmayne all too much in this.
  6. I Saw the Light was awful. I missed The Lobster because the line was too long after it and I am forever pressed.
  7. After two days of TIFF I am inclined to say: 1. Youth 4/4 2. Son of Saul 3.5/4 3. Cemetery of Splendour 3.5/4 4. 45 Years 3.5/4 5. Where to Invade Next 3/4 6. The Treasure 3/4 7. Our Brand is Crisis 2.5/4 8. Demolition 1.5/4 As far as Oscar chances go I see the Sorrentino and Son of Saul picking up big nominations. I think Bullock and Rampling both have a shot at a BA nod, but only one of them might get it. I'm also inclined to think if SPC moved Demolition it could get Gyllehaal a nom. He is so good and the actor race is so thin I think he could over come the shitty film. Today I am seeing Dheepan, I Saw The Light, The Lobster, The Danish Girl and Maggie's Plan.
  8. Out Brand is Crisis was fun. Maybe a non for Sandra. I'd say career best work. The rest of the film will get mixed reception.
  9. I actually hated Demolition after saying a little prayer about it last night. More soon. 1.5/4 for me, Gyllenhaal career best.
  10. It has less than 10 reviews and premiered at a festival that was bound to give it backlash. Do you not understand how those foreign festivals work and what kind of movies don't get great reception premiering there? I will premiere at a more middle brow festival tomorrow. Also, the Oscars is a committee, not a critical industry. Maybe read through reviews at filter out what the academy will care about and what it won't. Danish Girl is in unless it gets panned tomorrow. Inside Out is also very likely in. You aren't very good at this buddy.
  11. Uh, it is getting pretty good ink. Maybe a little polarizing, but I'm not getting an "atrocity" vibe from it all. Will be in the 70s on metacritic. Recap: Cemetery of Splendour- Fantastic, woozy cinema. Will be tiring for some, but totally genius with great thematic depth. 45 Years- An ACTORS movie but a really great look in a relationship told with new perspective. Rampling was fantastic and the end is heartbreaking. Son of Saul- Words are almost too slight to describe. Completely visceral and harrowing. The first sequence is the most intense sequence I've ever seen on film I think. Where To Invade Next- Really fun and insightful documentary. Very liberal, be warned.
  12. lol. Danish Girl is as in as any film. The initial response from an audience that souldn't like it is fine. Plus, it is exactly what The Academy likes and will be nominated in a ton of other categories. It'll end up being in the high 70s on metacritic I bet.
  13. I'm not stupid lol. I will definitely see a movie that I'm not too excited about if people who's opinions I respect dig it. I'm just not convinced Black Mass is getting that great of reviews and Kris Taplesy rave isn't going to sway my opinion on the film. Regardless, I'll see it when I'm back home because I am not in Toronto. PS. Brooklyn isn't getting a best picture nod.
  14. Just woke up to shower and head to the airport. My flight to Toronto is in 3 hours!
  15. These Anomalisa reviews are stunning and rumors are that A24 is going to pick it up.
  16. lol honey, he wasn't second in 2013. Stay pressed. I think a lot of people can agree on maybe Joaq's (lol) status as a great? I'd say Blanchett too, but she has some people who don't like her here. Their fans seem subdued too.
  17. She only has a few scenes, but this one is my favorite from the whole film:http://youtu.be/yfe2fe4aovY It is so deliciously Sorkin.
  18. What I find exceptionally annoying is the expectation that it'll be his year every time he has a film out. PS My Rooney profile pic was just a random one I had saved. I think she is a beautiful lady and effortlessly sweet, charming and intriguing. BUT, I've seen next to none of her filmography. Her scene in Her is life-giving and she is fabulous in The Social Network, but I haven't seen Side Effects of Dragon Tattoo. She'll be a fabulous Therese in Carol though.
  19. It is just annoying because he is tested as some revolutionary talent who is constantly being snubbed as if he is Glenn Close and actually deserved an Oscar. His career has became a meme and people who know nothing about film have jumped on the bandwagon. The Academy wants to award him! It'll happen!
  20. That was a little on the side of melodrama, but it is very respected by cinefiles and is a landmark film.
