  1. It isn't that good. The second act is a total disaster with little development and I have a ton of reservations about all of the retreading. That doesn't change the fact that it makes me feel good and for two hours and fifteen minutes I get to see a Star Wars movie.
  2. There are much worse cinematic sins haha. I'll go to my death defending Joy though. It just deserves to be seen and a lot of my cinephile friends agree with me. And Oscar Bait is so reductive. The Oscars don't tend to nominate women lead biopics that preach women empowerment and combine the storytelling techniques of fairlytales and soap operas. /end rant.
  3. Not really Oscar bait at all. It is great and a departure from a lot of narrative techniques. The critical backlash is totally unwarranted and only exists because of A. DOR fatigue and B. A flippant, fairytaleish plot with archetypal characters that is totally intentional but wrongly accused of being "messy." It is great.
  4. http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/point_break_2013/ Support Edgar Ramirez though and go see Joy! It is great'
  5. This is so exciting. Merry Christmas, Rth. Thanks for being so lovely!
  6. Tarantino is definitely critic friendly. You can like a movie with a bad RT score and not make excuses for it. It has a great runtime!
  7. So happy to see the reception for this go south. Tarantino needs to do something else. It also goes to show how important a strong and pushy editor is when it comes to his work. Django is an overlong, indulgent disaster and this sounds like a longer, more indulgent disaster. So not for me despite the fact I'm going this weekend. Wish me luck. This and The Revenant are going to be flops. I don't see how The Recenant comes out on top though-- this will have a bigger audience surely.
  8. Why would Inside Out happen? No campaign has been made for it and it has already been forgotten critically. It isn't in the top ten.... Also, Star Wars isn't locked. No one is predicting it except Gold Derby who has it in tenth which 98% wouldn't equal a nom. Also, Spotlight keeps winning critics groups but all I hear about is how Carol and Mad Max are winning them. Kind of weird.
  9. Guys, I think I might have been the first person to say 1bil domestic seriously and stick to it. I need to find that post because everyone called me crazy and now it could actually happen!
  10. Really? Did you sem them all back to back? It is gorgeous and so meditative and soothing. An absolutely perfect end. Calling any part of a six and a half hour film "endless" seems so reductive when a large part of Arabian Night's is its length. It isn't supposed to be an easy watch.
  11. Part 3 of Arabian Nights is the best part though. I have 19 films left to see, but my top ten right now are: 01. Carol 02. Arabian Nights 03. The Assassin 04. 45 Years 05. Clouds of Sils Maria 06. Mad Max: Fury Road 07. The Forbidden Room 08. The Duke of Burgundy 09. Taxi 10. Magic Mike XXL
  12. This isn't like any other Leo performance though. Like Tele said, it is so deglam. And GA won't like it. I expect poor word of mouth.
  13. This is such a great film. The critic's agendas are showing.
  14. I love arthouse, pensive, longing films, but this just felt so indulgent. Does anyone think this is going to make money? It is probably going to be one of the biggest flops of the year.
