DESPICABLE ME III | 770.2 M overseas ● 1034.8 M worldwide
MinaTakla replied to kayumanggi's topic in International Box Office
DEADLINE write-up is here Illumination/Universal’s animated hit keeps on going, adding another $4.2M in 44 markets this session. That takes the overseas total to $753.8M and the global kitty to $1.015B. Italy was the top holdover this session with a total of $20M after four weekends, and Japan, where it was No. 3 in the 9th frame, is now at $63M. DM3 is the No. 6 animated movie ever at the worldwide box office. To top the No. 5 movie, Zootopia, it would need another $8.8M. -

If it increases (as it always does with actuals), it will be around a -37% or -38% drop. Around the same drop every weekend (which in itself is a great drop on any weekend of course). If it keeps that pace, it should land around 1.025B or a bit more (maybe 1.030B) Japan is having a holiday starting Sunday, so it will get a boost there (its run there is simply incredible, one of the best runs along with China). -
Looks like DM3 has crossed £47m in the UK, catching up to both DM2 and Minions. SCREEN Illumination’s Despicable Me 3 grossed $4.2m in 44 territories for an international total of $753.8m. China remains the film’s top grossing market on $152.3m, the UK comes in a distant second on $61.1m. @HereticDo we have a list of highest grossing animated films in the UK in local currency?

IT New Line Continuing to break records after its mega global opening last weekend, New Line/WB’s adaptation of Stephen King’s Itadded 10 overseas markets this session for another $60.3M. That takes the offshore cume to $152.6M in 56 international hubs. The worldwide cume is $371.3M. This weekend’s drop was just 37% abroad. The Andy Muschietti-helmed scarer had a fantastic bow in Mexico where it dominated 90% of the Top 5 movies with $13.85M on 4,300 screens. This is the biggest opening weekend ever for a horror movie there, WB’s best of 2017 and the studio’s No. 3 all-time biggest in the market. Likewise, Sweden’s bow ($2.6M/186 screens) set records for the best horror launch and WB’s top 2017 debut frame. Further creating new thresholds for the biggest horror launch ever are Israel, Portugal, South Africa and Turkey. In holds, It dipped just 38% in the UK for a cume of $27.7M to lead all markets. Australia floated its cume up to $11.8M. The movie stayed No. 1 and fended off four new opening pics for the honor. It also held No. 1 in Russia with $13.8M to date. Further No. 1s were in horror-friendly markets Brazil ($10.9M so far) and Spain($7.2M to date). Indonesia meanwhile dropped by just 1% to lift its cume to $4.1M and Hollanddeflated by only 15% for a $3.3M total so far. There are still several markets to go with France and Argentina launching next weekend and benefiting from the great momentum. HUGE

When a film breaks 4 box office records for an animated franchise, and propels its franchise to become highest animated franchise both OS and worldwide in history and when DM3 becomes the 3rd highest animated film all time OS, I call that very eventful:) Dory had a superb run DOM, an OK run OS. DM3 the opposite: OK DOM but superb OS.
-
This is because many look at domestic and focus on it more. Sure, Pets and Sing had way more impressive DOM runs, but DM3 had an insane OS run that will end up almost matching Minions at today's ER which makes it 3rd all-time OS among animated films. A $1B is a $1B, there is no such thing imo as an uneventful milestone as 1B. It's just that when focusing on DOM more in an analysis, the OS run gets less focused on and hence the view that it's not as exciting as the domestic run.
-
The 4 box office records smashed by DM3 this year are: 1. Highest grossing animated franchise of all time worldwide 2. Highest grossing animated franchise of all time OS *internationally* 3. Only animated franchise to have 2 films crossing 1B worldwide 4. Only animated franchise in history to have 3 films crossing 900m and 950m worldwide Plus: Illumination is now the only animation studio to have 3 films crossing 900m worldwide in their original runs. Not even Disney or Pixar did this in original runs for anby of their films (Nemo crossed 900m in its 2nd DOM run) In the words of Chris Meledandri: “The shadow of Disney is so large and looms so powerful that it’s shocking when we go head to head with them and we do beat them,” Meledandri said. He credited his films’ consistency and “populist” appeal.

MinaTakla replied to A Marvel Fanboy's topic in China At The Box Office
It will be very interesting to see the top 10 of the year in China once 2017 ends DM3 over Spiderman and Apes? No one saw that coming. XXX Xander Cage and Resident Evil over all the above movies? It's gonna be an exciting list for sure.
