  3. I couldn't finish the trailer from how bad this looks. So sad. I loved that character back in my childhood.
  4. From the UK thread: The 3 Despicable Me films (DM2, DM3 and Minions) are #3, #4 and #5 among the top 5 highest grossing animated films ever in the UK, making the DM franchise the only franchise with 3 films in the top 5 all-time animated list in the UK.
  5. Thanks Heretic! Very impressive that the Despicable Me Franchise has 3 of the 5 all-time spots for animated films in the UK. That makes it the highest grossing animated franchise in the UK in local currency!
  6. I actually think Minions 2 will make more than DM3 in Germany actually. 5M admissions plus.
  7. DM3 is the only film that didn't disappoint or underwhelm in Germany this summer. The market has been seeing a big decline in interest, just like Italy. Compared to UK and France, both Germany and Italy are on a big decline as a major box office market I would say.
  8. Gyllenhaal is SUPERB in STRONGER. U think he stands a great shot at a nom.

  10. Wow, Cars 3, Despicable Me 3 and Captain Underpants above this one on RT? It's now at 48%. That wasn't expected given how I thought critics support this franchise. I didn't like Batman Lego at all, but critics supported it strongly. So I thought that would extend here. I'll still check it out though.
  11. Agreed. Especially OS. Reactions to this were very +ve when I saw it with different crowds in Europe this summer.
  12. Yes it's all time as per Corpse (Japanese box office expert). EDIT: I've added the full list in my original post (until the 91st position)

  16. Great news from Corpse (Japan box office expert)! Despicable Me 3 should have faded some by now, but the lack of any family or children fare at the market at the moment is giving it a late boost as it managed an increase in its ninth weekend of release. It exceeded ¥7 billion on Monday (yesterday), setting another record by becoming the only non-Disney/Pixar imported animated film to ever reach the milestone. I also misreported the films' admissions last weekend in the Chart Updates, but that'll be corrected this week. DM3 is also now #82 all time in Japan and #18 animated film of ALL TIME in Japan!

The third weekend of September is typically the strongest weekend of the entire Fall season, but I think this year will be an exception -- at least it better be, otherwise this Fall will be dreadful. Dunkirk didn't hold as well as I was expecting, but it was enough to claim a second weekend atop the box office. Considering the so-so second weekend decline, I'm not sure legs will be anything more than just "good", but a total over ¥2 billion ($20 million) is still in play. Alien: Covenant failed to pull in any fans of the original Alien films, and it didn't come anywhere close to matching the debut of Prometheus either. Ridley Scott's latest sold a mediocre 138,297 admissions over the weekend frame across 694 screens. I expect it'll still reach the ¥1 billion ($10 million) milestone only due to the strong weekdays this week from Silver Week, but only barely. DM3 is now #19 animated film of all time in Japan and #82 all time, all genres included.
  18. I agree, the film's first half was way better than it wore itself out and became bland and boring and not that funny. The Lego Movie was so much better.
  19. Actuals are in! Total Lifetime Grosses Domestic: $261,094,650 25.7% + Foreign: $754,332,355 74.3% = Worldwide: $1,015,427,005 Illumination’s Despicable Me 3 grossed $4.4m in 49 territories for an international total of $754.3m. Combined with $261.1m from North America, the worldwide total is $1.015bn. Italy is the film’s top holdover market, generating $1.3m for $19.8m after four sessions. In Japan, Despicable Me 3 earned $967,000 for a total of $63.2m. China remains the film’s top grossing market on $152.3m, the UK comes in a distant second on $61.1m, followed by Germany on $42.5m, France $40.5m, Brazil $38.9m, and Mexico $34.8m.
  20. Actuals per Cinetel. DM3 will probably end its run at $21-22m, -20 or -18% from Minions' $26m: Cars 3 will probably cross $12m by end of run. It did well in France (close to $20m and here in Italy). 1 CATTIVISSIMO ME 3 (DESPICABLE ME 3) USA Universal S.R.L. € 16.497.462 ($19.7m) 2 DUNKIRK GBR Warner Bros Italia S.P.A. € 7.516.793 ($8.95m) 3 CARS 3 USA Walt Disney S.M.P. Italia € 3.483.268 ($4.17m)
  21. Indeed. Early on @Jamessaid it best: we are no longer in an age when a film is made just for domestic audience, nor should a domestic box office performance of any film be the only thing that matters. It's all about worldwide. DM3, Fast 8 and BATB are perfect examples of films that are the year's biggest hits because their worldwide gross was so strong (1B+) thanks to a very solid to spectacular OS gross that propelled them to these leading positions on the year's leaderboard. Even IT is an example of this too. It will cross 700m because it caught on with international and domestic audiences alike.
