  1. Fox is more than happy to have more theaters for Ferdinand instead of showing this. I think that is a pretty good indication of what they think of the movie.
  2. No, they are getting rid of many things so they can bring in the maximum amount of Star Wars screens and then all the releases the following week. This is how it works. Anything other than the bigger multiplexes that have a screen to spare will do everything they can to get rid of it by Dec. 14th.
  3. Not going to help much when theaters are actively tanking it this weekend to get rid of it. At this point, I can tell you Warner Bros. cares far more about Father Figures than they do Justice League.
  4. READ THE FUCKING POST, I"M NOT TALKING ABOUT TITANIC, I POSTED ABOUT ACTUAL BOX OFFICE STUFF. You are so caught up talking about Titanic you didn't even bother to read it. Right, just to reiterate, this is actually a box office site and this is the weekend thread. I was confused by 40 pages of Titanic.
  5. No, I actually added something box office related. I know that might interrupt the riveting conversation of the same people saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over about Titanic, but thought I might actually throw something fresh in there.
  6. What? This is not true on any level. It has to play in a big house for 4 weeks, not in the 4 biggest auditoriums for the first few weeks.
  7. Because trying to look at a weekend thread that is nothing but Titanic talk for pages and pages is absurd. Take it to a Titanic thread already.
  8. It is going to hit the floor very hard after next week and is going to shed a whole bunch of theaters on 12/14. It might not make $230m
  9. I think this one is going to be tank city unless the reviews are really good. It looks terrible, so my guess is it bombs spectacularly.
  10. Father Figures is going to tank. It has been sitting on the shelf and has changed names multiple times. No theater wants to show it, they are being forced to because it is the only Warner Bros. film over the Holiday.
  11. I wouldn't say it isn't making the date yet. They put out the update poster last week. I imagine they are trying to get a trailer by the end of this week or next week at worst.
  12. I was going more with wide releases, but they need to get a trailer out and start advertising as they are less than a month out. Still think they should move it as that time period is going to be too crowded.
  13. The surprise hits depend on the studio. If it comes from a smaller studio that is getting 45% or 40% of the box office is much better than a surprise hit from Fox who is still getting 58% No tiers.
  14. I'm not sure at what the final percentage that Disney will land on, but it will be north of 60% for sure and I would guess hits 65% or close to it. Grosses don't usually scale anymore like they used to. There is no more 90% first week, 80% second week, 60% third week, 40% fourth week. It is a steady percentage all the way through until it hits second run way down the road and then theaters can rebook it at a lower rate.
  15. Downsizing and Father Figures are dead in the water. If theaters had a choice, then Father Figures would get around 200 screens. Pitch Perfect 3 is in for a big drop unless reviews are good. I would say it makes around $100m if they are lucky. The Greatest Showman is the wild card to me.
  16. Yeah, but Disney is also going to want 65% and Sony is going to want around 50% and theaters would rather save 15% if they know it is going to sell out. It will make the difference in some theaters on what gets the extra theater or bigger theater.
  17. I posted it a while ago in this thread, but the last time the release calendar set up this way was 12 years ago and Night at the Museum made $250m This has a shot to get there. It will be very crowded, but theaters will go with this over Ferdinand once it releases. Theater owners already know that Downsizing is mediocre and Father Figures is complete garbage. Pitch Perfect 3 is set up for a very hard fall (they should have moved this) and nobody knows what to make of The Greatest Showman yet. Don't be surprised if this breaks out.
