  1. Well, for what it's worth, when the trailer leaked I remember watching it on YouTube and the screams at her reveal were real and numerous Also she placed 2nd and 3rd on a couple big popularity polls on /r/marvelstudios recently (thousands of votes) Doesn't say much but it does say something As for the GA though? No idea. I guess we'll see on May 6th
  2. as soon as theaters reopen here there might be a small but sizable bump for NWH Lots of demand that still hasn't been met (they closed the Monday after OW)
  3. OH that's a wonderful and different top idea HMMMMM gonna have to think hard. Question: In pairing column should we list their characters' names or the actors' names? Also YES to the slash ships, great idea. People can just skip it if they don't wanna bother with it, but I love it Some obvious For Your Consideration ! (now we can't risk people forgetting about them can we!!) Shirley Maclaine & Jack Lemmon - THE APARTMENT Cary Grant & Grace Kelly - TO CATCH A THIEF Humphrey Bogart & Ingrid Bergman - CASABLANCA Maggie Cheung & Tony Leung - IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE a lot more but I don't wanna make a wall of GIFs Happy reminiscing.
  4. Yeah and well, you can feel sorry for her and at the same time think that what she did was wrong It's not one or the other. I think lots of people seem to think it is but it isn't.
  5. Regardless of whether you agree or not that she deserved more flak for what she did in WandaVision, people generally like her because unlike many other MCU heroes, she - is not a quip machine - is actually a fully-fledged dramatic character Also she - has good reasons to do what she does - has cool-looking powers, - has been around for a while, - is important, and - is hot Good recipe for popularity right there
  6. Studio Official synopsis is out : https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/marvel-reveals-synopsis-doctor-strange-041158258.html "The door of the multiverse, full of mystery and madness, opens. Now that Iron Man and Captain America have left after a fierce battle in Avengers: Endgame, former genius surgeon and the strongest magician of them all, Doctor Strange, is expected to play an active role as a central figure in the Avengers. However, using his magic to manipulate time and space at will with a forbidden spell that is considered the most dangerous has opened the door to a mysterious madness called “the Multiverse.” To restore a world where everything is changing, Strange seeks help from his ally Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, and the Avengers’ most powerful Scarlet Witch, Wanda. But a terrible threat looms over humanity and the entire universe that no longer can be done by their power alone. Even more surprising, the greatest threat in the universe looks exactly like Doctor Strange…"
  7. I'd lift the middle finger to their government not the whole country not like they can do anything about it But yes to the fact that Hollywood should stop pandering to their dumb censorship
  8. Eternals is my favorite MCU movie of 2021 lmao Spidey is already pulling off an almost miracle with this run, I mean at this point no matter where it finishes, it's legendary
  9. Hilarious week-end Lovin it It's a roller coaster, and Matrix is like the punching bag comedic relief that keeps getting hit and it's not supposed to be funny but it is
  10. Easy. Lots of younger people learning English. Note that before the 2000's, barely anyone spoke English in the general population. My city used to be 96% francophone (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quebec_City#Demographics) but according to latest census it's now 92%, but share of "bilingual" is increasing all the time, it's now at a third and probably higher since some people don't report it. They started teaching it in school at like 12 years old back then, it was so late. Just dumb. Then they brought it down to teaching it in like kindergarten so now almost all younger people are fine with English (some aren't... I know of 30 year olds who don't really understand English it's baffling. How do you even live on the Internet??!?!) I am one of those people who learned and shifted their movie-going behavior. Before 2009 or so I couldn't catch a movie in theaters in English, I couldn't understand, so French it was. Then I started saying "fuck it" and went to see movies in English starting with Avatar even though I missed some parts... because fuck dubbing. Also great seats all the time. The rest is history. My case is absolutely typical here. English showings are packed now, they weren't before. It's also why the government is introducing laws to help retain French language. Youngsters are increasingly using English, businesses as well, and it could snowball really quickly
  11. Hit harder indeed. All theaters closed I remember seeing the CPLX Scotia Bank Montreal in the top grossing theaters once in a while. Nothing outside of MTL though. Interesting, thanks for the info!
  12. WOW what a nice thread, thanks a lot Charlie for doing this. Amazing work!!! Gold mine
  13. As Thursday "previews" get bigger and bigger (read: earlier showtimes), 2nd week-end drops will get worse and worse, most likely. Like at this point, a -50% 2nd week-end drop for a big opener is god-tier
  14. Yeah we're gonna have to wait for a second trailer to get accurate metrics. Too many people have seen the trailer already in theaters
  15. Rewatched this because the wait to May 6th is killing me Still love it. The finale is clunky but it's also emotional so it works for me. The 8th episode packs a fucking wallop. On rewatch what struck me is that Wanda's grief hits harder and clearly she's not really aware of the pain she's causing until Agatha shows her. Like she thinks that, as far as she's concerned, yes she robbed them of their free will, but it's not painful to them. They're safe and at peace (that's what she says she thinks is happening). Obviously she knows it's wrong on some level, but what she doesn't know is how bad it is for the people of Westview. From the minute Agatha shows her that that's not true, she immediately understands that the Hex must be taken down. First thing she does is she tries to remove it then realizes she's gonna lose her family, so that's when she also realizes that she wants to tell them goodbye first. She needs to. Anyway, after days of mental subjugation (which she now understands is wrong and is causing them pain), it's not an extra 10 minutes that's gonna change anything to their suffering, but it will give her the closure she needs. So from the very moment Agatha tells her, she knows it's over. First she has to deal with Agatha though, which she does in a mess of a showdown that's clearly the series' low point. Then she releases everyone after saying her goodbyes to her family. It's still wrong to mentally subjugate people, especially painfully like this, but it wasn't a fully conscious decision. Also, she wasn't aware it brought them suffering. As soon as she was shown, she started the process of destroying the hex, knowing that this was, in fact, very wrong. A real villain wouldn't have cared that their actions caused suffering to other people. She acted selfishly... for a while. Part of being a good person is realizing you've made mistakes and making amends for them. I don't think she's a villain at her core but that was definitely problematic behavior. She did cause some massive psychological damage to those people, which I have no doubt will continue to affect her going forward. I just think the ending scene with the people of Westview could have been handled way better. Her amends feel weak because, while we know she truly feels sorry for her actions, we're not shown that part all that well. The only person she talks to is Monica and that is not enough. She should have apologized to the town or something (I think). Or at least tried to. Whether they accept her apology is not would have been up to them though, but at least try something. Anything.
  16. Good show, but could have been great I like what they're doing though, squeezing Florence Pugh in everything. I can definitely get behind that. So, this show's MVP are : Florence Pugh Hailee Steinfeld Jack The light-hearted tone and low scale of the story But some dubious writing near the end kept it from being great in my opinion. Also, I'll never be able to care about Clint. Sorry marvel writers. Still, a valiant effort. Really curious to see where they go from here my ranking of Phase 4 so far: WandaVision ★★★★½ Eternals ★★★★½ Spider-Man: No Way Home ★★★★ Loki ★★★★ Hawkeye ★★★½ Black Widow ★★★½ What If ★★★½ Shang-Chi ★★★ Falcon & Winter Soldier ★★½
