Mass Effect - Amazon Prime nearing a deal
Daxtreme replied to Jamiem's topic in Streaming, TV Series, & VOD Movies
I think The Expanse shows that MASS EFFECT could not only work but have an audience. However, I see 2 problems with it that The Expanse doesn't have 1. The scope. Mass Effect is massive in scope. It requires a huge budget, so many different locations, lots of things happening, world-ending events on the horizon, etc etc. 2. The alien characters. Whereas all of The Expanse's characters are humans, Mass Effect features many aliens as supporting if not almost LEAD characters who have huge amounts of screen time. That is a huge concern for budgetary reasons. And you can't cut them without risking to sink the story, and all except Asari characters have to be CGI for them to work. Now both of these issues can be alleviated by not adapting Shepard's story at first, instead focusing on the Human section of the backstory that is revealed in the first game. Less aliens, smaller scope, should be adaptable. But once Shepard comes into play... there is simply no way around it: the budget has to be huge for it to do its source material justice. -

Legend has it that Tele and family are still watching Endgame, now and until the end of time -
Weekend Thread (Feb 4 - 6) : Jackass $1.65 Thursday
Daxtreme replied to Maggie's topic in Numbers and Data
So theaters are re-opening here tomorrow on Monday for the first time since December. I'm seeing a few screenings for NWH already 50% sold on tomorrow night. Really curious to see the Monday hold for Spidey For instance this is what one of the 6:45 PM showings looks like right now: And it's pretty much the same for Tuesday, Wednesdays, Thursday... -
Well just to be clear it's only Quebec, so about a third of Canadian BO

Theaters are re-opening on Feb 7th here for the first time since Dec. 19th and I'm already seeing lots of tickets bought on the cineplex website. Tickets went on sale 12 hours ago. I would expect some decent numbers next week coming from Quebec. Lots of demand that couldn't be met at all (theaters closed right after OW)

Holy cow this show is so fucking amazing. I basically binged the whole thing in under 3 weeks. This was so right up my alley, wow! I love it when money meets passion. That's when miracles happen (See LOTR) At the end of Season 2 Episode 5 I was.... utterly speechless. One of, if not the best episode of Television I've watched in my life. Holy crap! The show remains great throughout and keeps on churning killer episodes but it could never top that IMO. Basically no show could so that's okay A few thoughts concerning the post-Expanse reality we are in 1. No way in hell this doesn't continue. They have a gold mine here, and they know it. It's a satisfying finale but they're being smart about it and holding their cards as it there is a lot more to tell. Also this show is gaining in popularity every day, it's immensely more popular now than it was back in the Syfy days. 2. Adapting Mass Effect has never been more possible than it is today. The Expanse shows that it can be done. Get to work Amazon!! (For those wondering, Mass Effect is eerily similar to The Expanse in MANY ways, I could list them for a long while. It's basically the same base setting but jump forward another 500 years or so, and also written by people who take verisimilitude very seriously) Now there's only one thing left and it's reading the 9 books. I'm fired up and ready to go! And finally, Peace, Inyalowda
