  1. Funny, I remember reading lots of critics of the MCU circa AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR release that Marvel movies had no consequences. Literally the only reason why Wanda enslaved thousands of people against their will in WANDAVISION, and now murdered hundreds of people in cold blood and threatened the fabrics of the entire Multiverse... is because of what happened at the end of INFINITY WAR. Specifically, Vision's death. And now because of that we have a heroine turned villain that has resulted in lots of angry fans (the current state of the MarvelStudios subreddit would be a testament to that) But there are no consequences in Marvel movies, apparently!
  2. I totally understand, it's a bit out of left field. I loved it but I can absolutely see how it could piss some people off.
  3. My full review : I loved this movie even if it's a mess. Aside from a few questionable scenes (like the tunnel scene where they just stand around and wait like fucking idiots for no reason), I was thoroughly invested. It's relentlessly entertaining, action packed, and a hell of a ride. I was a bit scared because I didn't 100% trust Sam Raimi to deliver. I was afraid it'd be too much like his Spider-Man movies, while what I wanted was Evil Dead Sam Raimi. And the latter is what we got in terms of style, but with a slight touch of his Spider-Man era, and it worked for me. Pacing was a little too fast (and too much happened off-screen) but damn this movie just flies by and throws everything at the screen. It's basically an adventure-action movie with a few horror elements thrown in that are quite surprising for an MCU PG-13 movie. Definitely pushing the family-friendly rating to its limits. It's a bit wild and tonally inconsistent too but then again, I watch so many Hong Kong movies, "tonal consistency" isn't even in the dictionary for some of those, so I'm used to it. Anyway, as some of you know, I kinda like messy movies when they're ambitious, and this fits the bill to the T. Elizabeth Olsen kills it. I don't know what people or even I were expecting but sending her character on an unhinged, brutal rampage has to be the best decision a Marvel movie took in a long while, at least for me. Absolutely worth it for the cheese and over-the-top villainous performance reminiscent of a by-gone era. So good! Continuity with WandaVision is a bit iffy but nothing that can't be rationally explained. I liked how confident it was in its own self and didn't mind subverting some expectations that will surely leave some viewers who expected something else frustrated. Sam Raimi must have had huge fun making this. The original Evil Dead is still Sam Raimi's best movie overall but I might rank this one his second best. Loved it. This is a great example of what I'm looking for in Superhero movies: grandiose, almost over-the-top character work and superhero-fueled megadrama (this movie is at its core about personal relationships), effects-driven action, relentless adventure, some references, good acting, and some well-placed humor. A
  4. Elizabeth Olsen wants Wanda to be in the X-Men No, you just got me excited! I don't really know what I do next after this movie. I don't really know. I wanna know what fans want and what the ideas are. But I guess you just said it, if we're bringing X-Men back, I'll wanna be there! I have no actual plans yet. I am very excited to talk with Kevin [Feige] about that at some point. https://www.cinemablend.com/interviews/scarlet-witch-and-the-x-men-elizabeth-olsen-shares-her-excitement-for-whats-in-the-marvel-cinematic-universes-future From her various interviews these last few days, even though she does her best to hide it, it's obvious she's coming back edit: another interview : https://collider.com/elizabeth-olsen-marvel-contract-doctor-strange-2-multiverse-of-madness-wanda/
  5. trailer did nothing for me but there's no way in any reality that I'm ever doubting James Cameron so this will be a monster
  6. One of us, one of us! DS2 might be my favorite phase 4 movie too, not 100% sure yet but hey
  7. Also, Christine being in 'What If' has nothing to do with her importance here. 'What If' was set during the timeline of the original Doctor Strange (2016), but an alternate version of it. Of course Christine was important to him at that point, as we all know from watching the first movie. This is set in 2023. After all the events of the past movies transpired. Christine hasn't had a single reference to her in all those years since the original movie, that's why a few people (like valonqar, and to some extent myself) wonder... what the hell is she still doing here being so important? She should have been cut of the movie entirely. Doesn't even change the movie's theme about Strange holding the knife; just make Chavez's role even more prominent and it's the same theme and character development for Strange, just without the love story part.
  8. Raimi can't resist having a superhero story center around a main romance. That's just the way it is. And if it isn't there (Doctor Strange totally forgot about Christine his last 3 live action appearances), then he'll conjure it so he can have it. People wondering whether Sam Raimi was constrained by executives to follow the MCU formula/continuity need to note that 1. Continuity with WandaVision is iffy. 2. Even continuity with the first Doctor Strange is iffy. So many dropped plot threads or glossed over, like Mordo. 3. Christine was essentially and completely forgotten the last 6 years of live action MCU and suddenly she's important to him again? 4. Vision was completely and totally forgotten even though Wanda created a massive Hex and enslaved a town just for him. 5. Nobody cares about what happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home in this movie. 6. The movie doesn't fit the usual MCU tone/aesthetics/style. 7. Wanda's descent to madness was great and absolutely the best part of the movie. It's also a bit too intense and I feel a lot of people have Dany season 8 flashbacks here. I think the studio would have preferred something less drastic but I suspect after Spider-Man 3 the conditions for Raimi returning was full creative control so they let it be (as they know the Darkhold can excuse pretty much anything she did here, it was stated explicitly 3 times in the movie that the Darkhold corrupts anyone who uses it) So what I'm saying is that Sam Raimi wasn't constrained by executives. He did whatever he wanted, it shows, and that's what he came up with. For better or for worse. And I say that as someone who loved the movie btw
  9. I'm out of likes but this, so this. There are some truly awful takes in here these last few pages. People living in a bubble. Anyone saying Marvel should worry about anything right now regarding phase 4 are taking crazy pills. They will likely open 2 movies in a row with above $200M, maybe even a third (who knows if Thor can do it) and yet this is worrisome? What the hell. Are we not on a BO forum? How can you see this and think alarm bells? They also have GOTG coming out next year that is 100% guaranteed an enormous hit. Eternals was a huge disappointment BO-wise and yet it seems to have made zero hit whatsoever to the franchise. Doesn't mean you're no longer on board with what they're doing that suddenly it applies to everyone on the planet, or that it somehow changes how BO numbers work. This is a massive, massive success no matter how you slice it. edit: And they're not even Avengers movies! It's not like they've used their real biggest gun yet lmao
  10. Going to have to swing the pendulum in the other direction here. Last few pages have been pessimistic. Just came back. I loved this movie. Aside from a few questionable scenes (like the tunnel scene where they just stand around and wait like fucking idiots for no reason), I was thoroughly invested. And I was bit scared too because I didn't 100% trust Sam Raimi to deliver. But he did. Elizabeth Olsen kills it. Sad to see her character meet a fate like this but absolutely worth it for the cheese and over-the-top villainous performance. So good! I really hope she comes back and does what basically every other DBZ character does and converts to being a good guy and the audience is like "YES!! finally" Worked really well for DBZ and often they become fan favorites so no reason it couldn't work here. Pacing was a little too fast (and too much happened offscreen) but damn this movie just flies by and throws everything at the screen. It's basically an adventure-action movie with a few horror moments thrown in. It's a bit wild and tonally inconsistent but then again, I watch so many Hong Kong and Korean movies "tonal consistence" isn't even in the dictionary for those so I'm used to it. I liked how confident it was in its own self and didn't mind subverting some expectations that will surely leave some viewers frustrated. The original EVIL DEAD is still Sam Raimi's best movie overall but I might rank this one his second best. Loved it. This is a great example of what I'm looking for in Superhero movies: grandiose almost over-the-top character work and superhero-fueled megadrama, big stakes, effects-driven action, adventure, references, good acting, and some well-placed humor. 9/10
  11. This was great I loved it. Amazing movie I was scared a bit because Sam Raimi has been hit or miss with me (I dislike Spider-Man 2, sue me), but this was a great Doctor Strange sequel. Really curious to see the numbers! I hope for $200M+
  12. This looks fun and I'll watch it but post-TLJ nothing really, truly, and actually incites my interest concerning Star Wars
  13. It's missing a small woah factor but damn this looks fun as hell! So much Korg. Even the shot ripped straight from the comic is exactly the same as in the comic... except with more Korg edit: can't complain though
  14. I still think the original EVIL DEAD is his best movie and I hope some of his style lingers its way into this movie
  15. BOT has been teased with the possibility of $200M, we won't accept anything less now!
  16. Or you can choose not to engage in this you know Got 5 tickets for Friday night. HERE WE GO!!!
