Spider Man Homecoming is definitely a good movie, but offers nothing new other than another movie with Spidey.

The only difference is that it gets a boost from Iron man and it's part of the MCU. This is not enough to get people excited. It also got a school setting, which perhaps might affect the old fans who like the character. Peter is just a teenager, he's not even a man yet. Stark calls him Spider Boy in Civil War. He's right.

Logan, Wonder Woman and GOTG offered new stuff. Spidey didn't. The 62% drop is bad, period. I really hope people won't get angry if Dunkirk overperforms and Spidey drops 55%. There will be a lot of competition and the opening was frontloaded.

At this point we can almost be certain of a +50drop.

    Huge fri-sat drop,

    62.2%second weekend drop.

The drop may not seem bad to some but the reality here is Apes wasn't actual  competition   And SM:HC didn't have a extremely big opening.

If it had went up against a 100+mil opener or two openers that equalled that, I wouldn't bat an eyelash. If it were a Homecoming 2, I wouldn't bat an eyelash but none of those things are true so yeah I look at the drop as decidedly not good for a film that garnered such stellar reviews for a comic book blockbuster.

Maybe SM:HC just reminds kids of what they were trying to get away from all year ...School.

Unlike MOS it shouldn't drop - since August is empty - 59% in the 5th, 62% in the 6th weekend and another 59% in 7th weekend

but yall are acting dumb on purpose so..

At this point I'm not even sure if Competition is even a factor anymore.

The film didn't hold well against a 56mil opener which isn't much of you really think about it.

Yeah not sure what happen to the RT or WOM on this movie. It only had one major competition this weekend (APES).

I remember MOS had two major one "WWZ and MU" at the same time, and it dropped -3% more then SMH..... this movie is in danger of going sub $300M if it drop above 55% next weekend .... Dunkirk/Valerian will hurt it for sure.

When I saw the first Friday to sun drop I did mention something about the film doing a Man Of Steel and falling just shy of 300domestic.

That could very well be a possibility if next weekend Doesnt hold well.

I really don't see any issue so far, not sure what you see that's not appropriate thus far. We were all discussing what we think THOR3 would do .... Funny thing is several of the DC folks are actually rooting for it to succeed.

There's a numbers only thread now if it bugs you...no one here is fighting any wars - we're just discussing Thor 3...

Things gets civil and it's still wrong ,WTH?

This thread just like last week is turning into a mayham as usual because of the DC/MCU unfinished war, @baumer  @Telemachos, please lock the thread till the actual numbers are out,

Why do you feel to do that as nobody here is having any fanboy arguments.

Its actually a mutual conversation and nobody is bashing one another.

Still those were a month to a one month and a week away.

All I'm saying is the interest in these films are so high it might Benefit al of them especially if they can mimic 2017 comic book movies Reception by Critics.

Hopefully at the end of the Year The comic book movie genre will be undefeated by Critics making the genre even stronger.

Two more films to go and we are that close to having a perfect comic book genre.

As previously stated I wonder how IW, DP2, TI2, and AMATW will affect each other in the summer. Will we have diminished returns due to the fact there's a superhero movie every two to four weeks?

After reading this article I don't think it's gonna be a problem

I don't think this August was any better...it would be the 4th comic film in a row and would likely be unfavorably compared to all 3 - time will actually help it.

And kicking it to 2018 is worse with all the movies already set.

It will have a very good 1st 2 weeks...and then it will fall of a cliff if JL is any good (and even if not, it will fall off that weekend:)...nothing wrong with that...it's gonna make a nice total, just not an OMG one...

These films are saving Hollywood so I don't think summer fatigue would've hurt it.

People who know comics and comic movies (and quadrant appeal) did:)...

Thor is not a huge crossover quadrant character - Loki probably draws more women that Thor...I know he's my sole reason for watching the 2nd movie...and it's sole redeeming factor:)...

I'm not gonna make this into a 500 page argument but sure there was a few like me who said the film will do 300 domestics but for the most part many didn't even see WW over 70mil o.w

True...but WW was a premier movie (not a 3rd one), released in a wasteland of badly received and reviewed worn-out franchises and in an environment where there were no movies appealing to 2 of its main quadrant audiences...and it was a very good movie...

Thor 3 will only have, at most, one of those things going for it...

Okay I see many are not reading the full conversation here.

Me and @YourMother was only saying that with a better release date Thor 3 would do better than it's  destined  to do.

CW added every Avenger not named Thor and Hulk. It also added Spider-man and Black Panther. Come on, man. Is that really comparable? I'll give that I expect Ragnarok to gross somewhere between $245M DOM and $285M DOM because of the addition of Hulk and marketing that seemed to infuse some fun into what was previously marketed as kind of drab. But, this is not CW.

Well Thor did have much more trailer views than CW.

As I told the other guy we were saying maybe in August Thor could've seen it's true potential instead of losing screens earlier than it should
